COACHES’ ASSOCIATION / NORTHERN DISTRICT CC U/15 TOUR – SUNSHINE COAST – JULY 2021 – PROGRAM Bruce Wood President, Coaches’ Association Manager, HKHDCCA / NDCC Academy team ICAL U/15 Tournament – Sunshine Coast, QLD Dear Bruce, I would like to wish the Coaches’ Association (HKHDCCA) / Northern District Cricket Club U/15 Academy team all the best in the International Cricket Academy League (ICAL) Tournament at the Sunshine Coast, Queensland in July 2021. Congratulations to the players and coaches on their selection, and all the partners that have come together to make this tour a reality. Cricket NSW is the number one producer of playing, coaching and umpiring talent in Australia. We are proud of this achievement through the pathways that we have developed over time. Cricket NSW invests a great deal of time and money in developing our players, coaches and umpires to achieve our aim. Having said that, without the support of cricket organisations like the Coaches’ Association (HKHDCCA), volunteers and parents, we would not be as successful as we are today. Your partners on this tour, Northern District CC, are a terrific nursery of junior cricket talent, having won the NSW Premier Cricket AW Green Shield competition (undefeated) and the NSW U/16 State Challenge in 2020-21 and 2018-19 with your two academy coaches, Josh Miller and Tom Felton. Congratulations to all stakeholders and coaches on your vision to provide young cricketers with an opportunity to develop their cricket skills on tour and challenge themselves against other high-quality opposition. I note that this is the fourth cricket tour that you have organised on behalf of HKHDCCA / NDCC, after successful tours to Sri Lanka in 2015, Barbados in 2017 and India in 2019. I have read the reports from those tours and they were highly successful, providing the players with unique experience, both on and off the cricket field. These tours also contribute to the pathway of talented cricketers, with Baxter Holt (captain of your Sri Lanka touring team in 2015) now being a Cricket NSW Blues contracted player who played in the JLT Sheffield Shield Final this year. He was previously captain of the Australian U/19 team, and plays for the Sydney Thunder team in the BBL. No doubt when the Covid-19 situation is under control and international travel resumes, you will organise another successful overseas tour. I look forward to attending the HK&HDCA Annual General Meeting on 20 July 2021 with my colleague, Daniel Anderson, Cricket Manager – North Shore, to meet everyone, including members of the Coaches’ Association’s Executive Committee. I have heard all about HKHDCCA’s popular school holiday cricket clinics, which are undoubtedly increasing cricket participation numbers of boys and girls in north-western Sydney. Your experienced coaches ensure that the players increase their skills, enjoy the experience, and develop a love of the game of cricket. I am also delighted to hear about your free or highly subsidised programs for different groups in the community. Good luck on your tour and enjoy this wonderful experience. Yours sincerely Fi Penny Area Manager – Sydney North 18 June 2021 New South Wales Cricket Association 6 Herb Elliott Avenue, Sydney Olympic Park / PO Box 268 Sydney Markets NSW 2129 T +61 2 8302 0000 / W cricketnsw.com.au/ 4

COACHES’ ASSOCIATION / NORTHERN DISTRICT CC U/15 TOUR – SUNSHINE COAST – JULY 2021 – PROGRAM NORTHERN DISTRICT CRICKET CLUB Northern District CC (NDCC) is delighted to be associated with the development tours organised by the Coaches’ Association (HKHDCCA). Recent tours to Sri Lanka, West Indies and India have delivered great results, and this ICAL Under 15s Sunshine Coast tour will continue this standard. In Bruce Wood, Josh Miller and Tom Felton, the tour group has three terrific cricket coaches and organisers who will provide a wonderful trip for all tourists. Tours of this kind tend to highlight and speed up the progress of talented players. Moreover, they build camaraderie and friendship, which helps in all manner of ways on and off the field. NDCC was established in 1925 and is based at Mark Taylor Oval in Waitara. It is the northernmost of the 20 clubs that form the Sydney Cricket Association and develop players to represent NSW and its T20 franchises, Sydney Thunder and Sydney Sixers. NDCC is the Club of former international players such as Peter Taylor, Brad Haddin, Adam Gilchrist and Neil Harvey and currently has Nathan Lyon in the playing ranks. It has a growing female playing base as well, having been operating as an integrated club since 2005. The youngest competition level in the SCA Premier Cricket is Under 16. In 2020-21, NDCC won this very strong competition, known as AW Green Shield (see photo below). The team, which included your Sunshine Coast tour coaches, Josh Miller and Tom Felton, as well as six members of the Coaches’ Association 2019 Indian touring team, then defeated the NSW Country champions to lay claim to being the best U16 team in NSW. On top of the victory at Green Shield level (the second in three seasons), the Club had its most successful season ever. NDCC won the Club Championship for the sixth time. We won the Women’s 1st Grade premiership for the first time ever, and won premierships in Men’s 3rd Grade and 5th Grade. Importantly too the Club won the Spirit of Cricket Awards for both men’s and women’s, confirming that NDCC play the game in the right way. The Club is excited about current plans to build on our wonderful facility at Mark Taylor Oval, named after our most famous former player. Work will begin this year on a new playing surface and new training nets, while work on a new indoor centre, and a new multi-purpose pavilion and scoreboard will commence in 2022. The 96-year-old ground will be turned into a modern Centre of Excellence and will become a hub for cricket in Sydney’s north. At NDCC, we enjoy welcoming players to the Club early in their cricketing journey. We enjoy making new friends as well, and the Club has friends all over the world. We look forward to welcoming you to Mark Taylor Oval soon. I trust that all players, their families and the coaches will have a really enjoyable and successful tour. If like previous HKHDCCA tours, it will be an experience that inspires you along your cricketing journey in the seasons ahead. COACHES’ ASSOCIATION / NORTHERN DISTRICT CC U/15 TOUR – SUNSHINE COAST – JULY 2021 – PROGRAM COACHES’ ASSOCIATION (HKHDCCA) The Coaches’ Association (HKHDCCA) is a leading cricket coaching organisation responsible for recruiting and accrediting young coaches from within HK&HDCA and north- western Sydney; and conducting junior cricket clinics during the school holidays and development programs in the off-season. HKHDCCA designs and implements coaching programs aimed at increasing the cricket participation, skills and enjoyment of boys and girls aged 5 – 15, including beginners, club players, representative standard players, and children with special needs. We have experienced significant growth since our inception in 2010 and aim to continue to expand our subsidised (or free) coaching programs to a wider cross-section of the community, many of whom have encountered barriers or lack of opportunities to participate in cricket, including disadvantaged groups, children from non-English speaking communities, and children with special needs. We also strongly support the growth of Girls’ cricket at grassroots level. The successful implementation of these initiatives assists in facilitating sporting, cultural and social inclusion for these community groups, while also promoting healthy, active lifestyles, and increasing the participation rate in cricket in NSW. Responsibilities include: • raising the profile of cricket coaching and giving coaches a collective ‘voice’ within the Association; • promoting the objective that all club and representative coaches attain the Cricket Australia Community (Level 1) accreditation as a minimum (preferably Level 2 for representative Shield team coaches); • organising an annual free Community (Level 1) accredited coaching course for HK&HDCA and NDCC members, in consultation with Cricket NSW; providing financial assistance to a limited number of HKHDCCA candidates nominated to attend a high level Cricket NSW accredited coaching course (Levels 2 or 3); • organising cricket clinics for players aged 6 – 14 at Waitara, Normanhurst, West Pennant Hills, Hornsby and/or Dundas, in partnership with Northern District CC, during the January, April and Sept. / October school holidays; • representing the Coaches’ Association on all cricket coaching matters at the HK&HDCA Council and Executive Meetings (the President of the Coaches’ Association is a delegate on the Executive Committee); • providing active Coaches’ Association members with professional coaching opportunities at our junior cricket clinics and off-season junior development programs; • co-ordinating the annual HK&HDCA U/15 Ross Turner Cup (RTC) and U/13 Glenn Hourigan Cup (GHC) ‘showcase’ intra-Association representative fixtures; identifying potential outstanding young coaches; providing RTC & GHC coaching roles and other opportunities; • recognising excellence in cricket coaching at club, representative or Coaches’ Association levels through our HKHDCCA Coach of the Year award (Bruce Wood Cup); • arranging a HKHDCCA / NDCC representative cricket tour (U/15 age group) every two years (since 2015); • increasing the participation of girls in cricket, in consultation with Cricket NSW (Sydney Sixers) and the HK&HDCA Girls Cricket Co-ordinator, through targeted coaching programs and liaison with schools and clubs; • holding two free annual clinics each year for Blowfly cricketers (children with special needs) in January and September / October, plus ad-hoc coaching at other programs, depending on the availability of coaches; providing volunteer services at Blowfly Cricket fund-raising events and other programs; • conducting a free Beginners session, teaching cricket fundamentals to 'first time' players each year; • assisting clubs by running some coaching sessions and demonstrating coaching drills to new club coaches; • enhancing the development of accredited coaches and facilitating a future pathway for club and rep. coaches; • providing a mentor service to coaches as required, especially new or young coaches seeking guidance; • arranging Insurance for HKHDCCA and the annual incorporated association return to NSW Fair Trading; • seeking corporate sponsorship and Government Grant opportunities to provide additional funding to expand and further subsidise our coaching programs, and purchase additional equipment as required; • conducting off-season Rising Stars Development Programs, depending on demand and availability of venues; • ensuring that all coaches aged 18 and over have a current Working with Children Check 5-year clearance; • promoting our activities and coaching programs via the HK&HDCA website and the Coaches’ Association’s social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn); • assisting the HK&HDCA Rep. Secretary with coaching matters relating to the representative program; • aiming to provide cricket coaching for community groups from non-English speaking backgrounds who have encountered barriers or lack of opportunities to participate in cricket in Sydney. Bruce Wood has performed the role of President of the Coaches’ Association since 2010-11 and is supported by Daniel Wood (Vice-President), Josh Miller (Secretary), Rod Hokin (Head Coach), and Nick Miller (Treasurer). The Coaches’ Association has five distinguished Patrons – Ross Turner, Tom Richmond OAM, Matt Kean MP, Mark Rushton and Denise Anderson (Annetts). 10
