Powering Economic Growth & Opportunity Across the Regions A focussed look at key data from the BFI’s Screen Business 2021, evidencing how the UK tax reliefs are stimulating economic growth and job creation across the English Regions
Foreword The UK’s screen industries have bounced back faster than almost any other industry post-pandemic and the truly unprecedented demand for content has never been on a greater trajectory. The content boom provides unsurpassed opportunity and the English Regions have never been in greater demand. It is our aim as the National Screen Agency, funded by the BFI to maximise and support the production of feature film and high-end TV in the regions outside London, to ensure that economic impact and job creation are felt within communities right across the nation. During 2021, Creative England’s Filming in England team and Film Office partners supported over 200 feature films and high-end TV productions to film on location. From Mission: Impossible 7, Indiana Jones 5 to Without Sin and Season 5 of The Crown, filmmakers chose to utilise the network of studio infrastructure, skilled and experienced crew and unique locations across the Country. For the first time, BFI Screen Business 2021 analyses the impact of the film and high-end TV tax reliefs in the UK nations and England’s regions providing compelling evidence of how the UK tax reliefs are stimulating economic growth and job creation across the UK. This toolkit, developed using relevant English Regions data from BFI Screen Business 2021, sets out to demonstrate the impact that can be achieved by local and regional engagement with the screen sector and how we at Creative England can support you in creating the best possible conditions for future growth.
