[ Forewords For the doctoral programme in Paris, this year 2020-2021 has been a year of profound evolution. We have restructured the entire academic cursus over the first two years and strengthened the methodological and theoretical skills of doctoral students. We have also proposed to develop the mentoring of doctoral students by creating an advisory committee. The mission of the latter, under the impulse of the thesis director, will be to supervise more closely the progression of the thesis until the final stage of the defense. Finally, we have managed to introduce a more stable funding scheme that allows doctoral students to devote themselves fully to their research work in the final year of the programme. The objective of these changes is to reinforce the chances of doctoral students to to integrate research universities in France and abroad. We also hope that future holders will contribute to the development of research activities in the business world, by defending the same research requirements. They will thus contribute to reducing the often mentioned, and deplored, gap between the research world and the business world. The development and success of our doctoral programme goes far beyond the program itself. It contributes significantly to the valorisation of ESCP within the academic and scientific communities. This is an objective that was set from the beginning by the founders of the programme. It is more than ever relevant in our higher education environment, where only quality signals can significantly distinguish an institution. All of this would not be possible without the commitment of the entire faculty, which has been enthusiastically involved in this transformation process. We must also thank the Associate Dean for Research, and more generally the management of ESCP, which has supported the entire process and, in particular, has made it possible to improve funding for doctoral students. We are now entering the concrete implementation phase. New operational challenges are emerging, which are no less exciting. In particular, we hope that this year will see the strengthening of our links with the Berlin doctoral programme, with which we have a sort of common destiny. Régis Coeurderoy Dean of the Paris Ph.D. Programme 2
ESCP Business School has been active in doctoral training for many years. In particular, the Paris and Berlin campuses have developed a programme offering for their doctoral students in their respective national languages. Since 2021-2022, doctoral students from both campuses have had the opportunity to choose courses in English from both locations. The academic directors of both programs seized the opportunities that arose from the Corona pandemic to take this step together. Because of the pandemic, ESCP Business School has created the technical environment for the hybrid participation of doctoral students. First reactions and registrations of doctoral students in Paris and Berlin show great interest in our new offer. With this step, ESCP Business School again shows its strength as an international management school in doctoral programmes. Rolf Brühl Dean of the Berlin Ph.D. Programme 3
