Aaron Zhou Aaron received his PhD last year from Screen and Media Studies at the University of Waikato in the area of Chinese independent animation. He is an experienced tutor in media studies and also interested in creative practices. Bella Zhang Bella has a Master degree in Shanxi University, China, majoring in Cell Biology and she recently graduated with a Graduate Diploma in Biological Sciences in the University of Waikato. Zhiyuan Wang Zhiyuan did his undergraduate in School of Accountancy, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, majoring financial management. Currently he is doing a Master of Management Studies, majoring accounting in Waikato Management School, the University of Waikato. Victor Meng Victor (Keyu) is currently studying Bachelor of Arts for his third year in School of Arts, University of Waikato, major in Screen and Media Studies. Jun Gao Jun got his Master of Management degree from Sun Yat-sen University in China in 2014. Now his is a PhD candidate in Tourism Management at Waikato Management School, University of Waikato. Guest speaker Patrick English Patrick English has been involved with China and international trade since 1989. From 2013, Patrick was the Executive Director for the then newly established New Zealand China Council and prior to this, he worked for New Zealand Trade and Enterprise for more than 17 years. Over this time, Patrick spent more than 13 years visiting, living and working in China. He is an experienced Trade Commissioner and diplomat having served in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, as well as Malaysia. Patrick has a BA in International Relations and Chinese and a Masters in International Management and Chinese from the University of Waikato. For 3 years prior to his posting to Guangzhou as Consul General and Trade Commissioner in Southern China, he was part of the New Zealand China FTA negotiations team and led the market implementation programme for the New Zealand China FTA agreement. Patrick is Chairman of the Ministry for Primary Industry’s China-New Zealand Growth Partnership Executive Group and on the Advisory Board the University of Waikato School of Management and is an Honorary Associate of the University of Waikato. In addition, Patrick is a commercial advisor for two companies and a founding shareholder of the Birkenhead Brewing Company. Presentation: New Zealand and China; Trade and Economic Engagement An open and interactive discussion about the China as New Zealand’s largest trading partner, largest source of students and second largest source of visitors, so for New Zealand, economic dependency on China is high: is it reciprocated and at what cost? The FTA was signed in 2008 and was a significant catalyst for our economic growth, with the impact being significant for some of New Zealand’s largest corporates – is it as important today. During your time at the University of Waikato you will be staying onsite in one of our largest halls of residence, College Hall. The hall has been recently refurbished, and has modern lounges on each floor and a TV projector for the ultimate sports or movie experience. The halls of residence will give you an opportunity to create strong friendships with the other students and really get a feel of the typical student experience at Waikato. All rooms are equipped with a single bed, mattress, mattress protector, duvet, blankets, pillows, chair, desk light, bookcase, drawers and a wardrobe. Every room also has curtains, are fully carpeted and centrally heated. All meals will be held in the College Hall cafeteria unless stated otherwise. AUCKLAND Auckland is the largest city in New Zealand with a population of around 1.6 million. The city is built on the coast alongside the Waitemata Harbour and Hauraki Gulf.
