Report Tutorial Video : http://www.inkresearch.com/pdf_tutorial/morning.html English Overview: Sentiment and Stocks Today we revisit diversified management and holding company Power Corporation of Canada (POW), last featured here on March 30th of last year. In the time since that report, the stock has about doubled. Power has core holdings in insurance, retirement, wealth management and investment businesses, and alternative asset investment platforms. Its larger holdings include (as of Q2) a 66.7% interest in Great-West Lifeco (Mostly Sunny; GWO), 61.9% of IGM Financial (Mostly Sunny; IGM), and 14.1% of GBL (GBLB on Euronext). As of Q2 end, Power also had a 55.9% undiluted equity interest in the online investment management platform WealthSimple. Until last week, WealthSimple was the only cryptocurrency trading platform registered with the Ontario Securities Commission, but it now has competition as the OSC has granted registration to Coinberry. It is shaping up to be a David versus Goliath story. At this point, WealthSimple is not a large part of Power's business. However, given the growth in cryptocurrencies, the stakes are high. Coinberry is looking to go public via a qualifying transaction with Venture-listed capital pool Cinaport Acquisition Corp. III (CAC) which is currently halted. However, cryptocurrencies are not the only growth area for Power. They also are the largest shareholder (with a 35.7% interest) in zero-emission vehicle manufacturer Lion Electric (LEV). In fact, LEV-related investment gains were a contributing factor to Power's Q2 net earnings which came in at $1.47 per share, up 48% from the same quarter a year ago. We have seen a mix of insider selling and buying recently which is not surprising as the stock sets new all-time highs.
