At all stages during the preparation and training of competition horses, welfare must take precedence over all other demands. This includes good horse management, training methods, farriery and tack, and transportation. 2. Horses and athletes must be fit, competent and in good health before they are allowed to compete. This encompasses medication use, surgical procedures that threaten welfare or safety, pregnancy in mares and the misuse of aids. 3. Events must not prejudice horse welfare. This involves paying careful attention to the competition areas, ground surfaces, weather conditions, stabling, site safety and fitness of the horse for onward travel after the event. 4. Every effort must be made to ensure that horses receive proper attention after they have competed and that they are treated humanely when their competition careers are over. This covers proper veter- inary care, competition injuries, euthanasia and retirement. 5. The FEI urges all involved with the sport to attain the highest levels of education in their areas of expertise. Welcome to the second annual Spring Benefit Show, CDI 3* and CPEDI presented by the DRESSAGE ASSOCIATION OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. (DASC) The 2022 show will be held May 5-8 at Galway Downs, in Temecula, CA. An Official USEF Qualifying Competition for: 2022 Grand Prix and Intermediate I Championships; 2022 FEI North American Youth Championships 2022 USEF Pony Rider Dressage National Championship; 2022 USEF Children Dressage National Championship 2022 USEF Adequan Junior Dressage National Championships 2022 Horseware Ireland/USEF Young Rider Dressage National Championship 2022 Markel/USEF Young Adult ‘Brentina Cup’ Dressage National Championship 2022 Markel/USEF Young & Developing Horse Dressage Championships; 2022 Adequan/USEF Para Dressage National Championship 2022 FEI World Breeding Championships for Young Horses in Dressage (Five, Six & Seven-Year-Olds) Great American/USDF Regional Championships • CDS HOY & JR/YR Championships & RAAC There are no words to express how grateful we are to our 2021 sponsors, exhibitors and volunteers. In spite of the challenges presented by the Covid-19 environment, last year’s inaugural Benefit Show was a great success. In addition to covering the CDI expenses, we were able to make donations to Region 7 Young Riders, the Premier Accredited Therapeutic Horsemanship Center, Ride On and Temecula Chapter of CDS, for sharing their show supply trainer, tents and volunteers. We have established an emergency fund for members of the dressage community faced with medical or other unexpected hardship, are we are extremely proud to be adding a CPEDI to our 2022 competition. You only have to look at last year’s Olympic Dressage Team, to get a sense of the impact athletes based in Western states have had on Olympic, World Cup, and Pan American medal wins, as well as Na- tional and International titles. Yet, with so many finals and selection events in Florida, Kentucky, and Chicago, travel expenses and logistics in leaving clients in order to compete, have always provided our competitors with additional and unique challenges. Officials face the same challenges when working towards a license or upgrade. Additionally, in hard times, there are few places riders, grooms, and show staff can go for help. Filling these gaps is the purpose of the DASC, while continuing to support education and competition. We will not be competing with CDS as the local USDF, GMO, but will act as an addi- tional resource for competitors and support staff, whether pursuing goals or in times of greater need. The hope of the DASC board and show committee is to host an event each year that offers an out- standing competition experience, regional, national and international selection and qualifying opportuni- ties in a welcoming and enjoyable show atmosphere. We also hope to continue building a base for long term and sustainable funding for our Dressage community. Sponsorship opportunities for this exciting and worthwhile event are outlined on the next pages. Income from sponsorship is needed to make up the deficit between entry fees and the actual costs of pro- ducing a CDI, CPEDI and top national event. Every level of contribution is greatly appreciated, and we are happy to customize a package for your individual needs. Thank you in advance for considering our event and association. Your generous support will help to make this show a success, and fund what hopefully will become an association providing that outstanding and sustaining benefit to the Dressage community.
