Spring/Summer 2019 News IN LOVING MEMORY D AVID Earl Haverstock was born to 1st Lieutenant Earl and Ellen Haverstock in Pasadena, California on July 15, 1944. He passed away on April 24 from cancer at the age of 74. Dave was a man of so many gifts: a gardener extraordinaire, a builder, creator, artist, singer (including the choir at First Baptist) and, guitar and ukulele player, writer, and an excellent cook. Dave knew how to fix anything or would figure out how. And he never knew a stranger! He is survived by his spouse of 41 years and Best Friend Forever, Nancy Sundquist Haverstock. Dave volunteered at Bridgeway House for more than 12 years. He was particularly fond of working with students in our school. He visited two to three times a week to mentor and support students in need. He would often spend time in a classroom playing his guitar and students would be calmed and relaxed by his music. As one student noted: “Dave was the grandfather of our school”. Dave had a younger brother Stephen, who had autism. Stephen passed away as a result of challenges related to autism. Stephen was Dave’s inspiration to support and help others affected by autism. Dave shared that he wished there had been a Bridgeway House for his brother. Dave gave his endless energy and love to all of our staff and students. He can never be replaced and, because our community recognizes that, an anonymous donor is matching all donations in Dave’s memory. The David and Stephen Haverstock Scholarship Fund has been established to continue to provide music and arts to students at Bridgeway House so that Dave’s legacy will carry on. Bridgeway House is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We offer treatments, developmental therapies, enrichment courses, and support to children and families with autism and related abilities.
