Fundraising together - it’s a piece of cake! It’s time to don your apron and dig out those mixing bowls to support our annual Bake for Bobath campaign. Fundraising will be a piece of cake if we all lend a hand and get baking this March! Last year, with the help of schools, nurseries, families and businesses all over Wales, we managed to raise over £10,000! You can help us beat that fantastic total in 2020 by holding a bake sale. In this pack, you’ll find everything you need to put on a Bake for Bobath event including a poster, fundraising ideas and some great recipes! Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre Wales provides specialist therapy to children all over Wales with cerebral palsy. This year, we need £1.8m to keep our Centre running with approximately 80% of that coming from donations, gifts in wills, retail and fundraising activities. So whether you’re a seasoned supporter or a bake sale novice, please get baking for Bobath this March!

RECIPES FOR ATEXT HEREEVENT SUCCESSFUL Mary Berry’s Banana Loaf (thanks to Imogen and Lola) Ingredients 100g softened butter 175g caster sugar 2 ripe bananas 2 large eggs 225g self-raising flour 1 tsp baking powder 2 tbsp milk Method 1. Preheat the oven to 180’C / Fan 160’C / Gas Mark 4. 2. Lightly grease a 2lb loaf tin, then line the base and sides with baking parchment. 3. Measure all ingredients into a mixing bowl and beat for about 2 minutes, until well blended. 4. Spoon the mixture into the tin and level the surface. 5. Bake in the pre-heated oven for about 1 hour, until well risen and golden brown. A fine skewer inserted in the centre should come out clean if the loaf is ready. 6. Leave to cool in the tin for a few minutes, then turn out, peel away the parchment and finish cooling on a wire rack. 7. Serve thickly sliced. Enjoy! American breakfast pancakes (thanks to Osian and Dylan) Ingredients 135g plain flour 1 tsp baking powder ½ tsp salt 2 tbsp caster sugar 130ml milk 1 large egg, lightly beaten 2 tbsp melted butter (allowed to cool slightly) or olive oil, plus extra for cooking Method 1.Sift the flour, baking powder, salt and caster sugar into a large bowl. 2. In a separate bowl or jug, lightly whisk together the milk and egg, then whisk in the melted butter or oil. 3. Pour the milk mixture into the flour mixture and beat until you have a smooth batter, using a fork. Keep mixing to get rid of any lumps. Let the batter stand for a few minutes. 4. Heat a non-stick frying pan over a medium heat and add a knob of butter. When it has melted, add a ladle of batter. It will seem very thick but this is normal. Wait until the top of the pancake begins to bubble, then turn it over and cook until both sides are golden brown and the pancake has risen to about 1cm (½in) thick. 5. Repeat until you’ve used all the batter. You can keep the pancakes warm in a low oven but they’re at their best straight out of the pan! 6. Serve with maple syrup, bacon, honey, banana or chocolate spread – whatever you fancy!

Turn onto a floured work surface and knead very lightly. Pat out to form a round of about 2cm thick. 5. Use a 5cm cutter to stamp out scones and place on the baking sheet. 6. Lightly knead together the rest of the dough and stamp out more scones. 7. Brush the tops of the scones with a little milk. 8. Bake for 12–15 minutes until well risen and golden. 9. Cool on a wire rack and enjoy sliced and buttered. We hope you have a brilliant time Baking for Bobath! Share your creations with us on Twitter @Bobathwales #Bake4Bobath Welshcakes Ingredients 225g plain flour 85g caster sugar ½ tsp baking powder ½ tsp mixed spice 50g butter 50g lard, plus extra for frying 50g currants / sultanas 1 egg, beaten A splash of milk Method 1. Rub the fat into the sieved flour to make breadcrumbs. Add the sugar, dried fruit and then the egg. Mix to combine, then form a ball of dough, using a splash of milk if needed. 2. Roll out the pastry until it is 5mm thick and cut into rounds with a 7.5- 10cm fluted cutter. 3. You now need a bakestone or a heavy iron griddle. Rub it with butter and wipe the excess away. Put it onto a direct heat and wait until it heats up, place the Welshcakes on the griddle, turning once. They need about 2-3 minutes each side. Each side needs to be caramel brown before turning. 4. Remove from the pan and dust with caster sugar while still warm. Why not make these for St David's Day and text BOBATHWALES to 70085 to donate £5 towards Bake for Bobath 2020?
