A letter from TICK AND KATE Our world turned upside down on January 3, 2018. At the beginning of 2018, we were devastated by the untimely loss of our 14 year old, Dolly. Dolly was the victim of relentless bullying. No parent should have to feel the pain and the loss of their child in this way. To us, our “Doll” was perfect. Funny, caring, cheeky, energetic and loving. She was a pocket rocket with a sunbeam of a smile and the gentlest of souls. She always looked for the good in people and situations. We were unprepared for the overwhelming support shown by the Australian community following Dolly’s death and are eternally grateful for the way we have been cared for by our “tribe” - old and new. It is this tribe that gives us the strength and encouragement to take the next step with Dolly’s Dream and start to actively work to change systems, procedures and conversations around bullying. 1 Dolly’s Dream, proudly brought to you by the Alannah & Madeline Foundation (ABN 96 514 115 810) in conjunction with Kate and Tick Everett.
“Dolly, my beautiful baby, you were always destined for great things. With your death it falls on us to ensure your story becomes a powerful catalyst for change. Your legacy will be one of caring and kindness. Love Mum.” Kate Everett Who we are & OUR MISSION Established in Dolly’s memory by her parents, Kate and Tick Everett and her sister Meg, Dolly’s Dream will act as a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves and work to create change. Our work has already begun with: · the introduction of Dolly’s Law into NSW - imposing tough penalties for cyber bullies · co-funding the NT and QLD Governments’ introduction of eSmart schools to reduce bullying · helping by telling our story to prevent lives being lost to bullying · contributing to the QLD Government’s Anti-Cyberbullying Taskforce · providing expert advice to schools and parents on bullying · presenting the first Dolly’s Dream cyber safety workshop in Katherine. 2 Dolly’s Dream, proudly brought to you by the Alannah & Madeline Foundation (ABN 96 514 115 810) in conjunction with Kate and Tick Everett.
