Pillar I European Research Marie Sklodowska- Research Council Curie Actions Infrastructure ▪ Eligible to excellent researchers looking for a new application - talents come to us we have the infrastructure, we have the environment, and you can reach us with the help of an ERC grant. ▪ Initial grants will create approximately 2,500 posts for postdoctoral, doctoral and other staff in the host institutions. ▪ Competitive funding to support investigator frontier research across all fields, on the basis of Mission scientific excellence. ▪ Emphasis on inter- and multidisciplinary, high risk pioneering projects and new groups and new generation researchers as well as established teams = ERC motto: higher risk means higher profits ▪ The aim here is to recognize the best ideas and confer status and visibility on the best brains in Europe, while also attracting talent from abroad. ▪ Among the research supported by the European Research Council (ECR) in 2020 are 3 projects from Poland, two projects from the Czech Republic and one project from Hungary. Widening participation and spreading excellence EU plans to plug the east-west R&D gap: Draft of the work programme says Horizon Europe will fund projects that help universities to attract and retain talent, reducing brain drain from member states with weak research systems. The Commission also wants to establish a framework for research careers and a common academic career structure, that promotes widespread recognition of the competences that PhD students and postdocs in various stages of their careers have obtained, both within and outside academia, and regardless of sector, discipline or location. Widening participation and spreading excellence Teaming ▪ Establish/upgrade Centre of Excellence ▪ Up to €15 million (+ funding from structural funds) ▪ Salary must be comparable to researchers‘ salary in the hosting institution (average) > disadvantage ▪ The applicant should have vision how to develop also organizational skills of the Centre ▪ Up to 6 years ▪ The grant awarded from the Horizon Europe budget will provide substantial support for the start-up and implementation phase of the future Centre of Excellence including the recruitment of the administrative, technical and scientific personnel. National financing schemes for attracting talents Poland POLONEZ BIS is a fellowship programme for experienced researchers, co-funded by the European Commission and the Polish National Science Centre under the prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie COFUND grant. In 3 calls to be announced in 2021 and 2022, the programme will recruit 120 experienced researchers from all over the world. They will move to Poland for 24 months to conduct their basic research in public or private institutions of their choice. National financing schemes for attracting talents Poland EEA and Norway Grants Poland is the greatest beneficiary of the funds among EU Member States, with a gross allocation of €809.3 million (out of a total of over €2.8 billion). The programme has a total budget of €110 million out of which the mobility projects budget is €7 million ▪ POLS Grants– a mobility call within the framework of the small grants scheme, for foreign researchers who wish to conduct research in Poland – with a budget of €7 million Dioscuri Centres of Scientific Excellence Dioscuri is a programme aims to support the development of lighthouses of scientific excellence in Central and Eastern Europe by promoting outstanding researchers who want to conduct their research in this region.
