The Executive Summary of Project Jaguar There are 2 important statistics: 70% of teacher’s do not like where they work, and only 12% of students finish their online courses. Infact, In college, Trevaun Solomon and Canice James learned that most of their favorite teachers in high school didn’t enjoy their job because of the financial and physical conditions. These teachers were not alone. This problem inspired Trevaun and Canice to create and launch “Project Jaguar” - a website for teachers to start and teach online courses to students in the Caribbean. We capitalize on finding ways for experienced teachers to start teaching online by creating social experiences for students, making it easier to complete a course and take the next one. This allows us to start Online Teaching Businesses (OTBs) as we overcome the barrier for students becoming repeating customers. Over 3 years after launching our startup, Project Jaguar hosts the courses and facilitates the businesses of over 3,000 teachers, and 10 businesses with 15 contracts in place to launch and maintain more Online Teaching Businesses. Our business model kickstarts careers for digital educators like Keston Chandler from Trinidad, and Herman Lewis from Jamaica who teach students from anywhere, using their great personalities, a computer, and our services. Project Jaguar is headquartered in the Antigua and Barbuda Science and Innovation Park . The company is owned by Trevaun Solomon and managed by Canice James and Dawsher Charles. Dawsher Charles is a UWI student from Trinidad with a background in economics and marketing. Canice James from Antigua has extensive experience in software development, while Trevaun Solomon from Antigua has a large portfolio in sales & marketing. All partners will be taking hands-on management roles in the company. We enjoy working with teachers who have a desire of starting a business from doing what they love. Over the next 5 years, we want to sign contracts with with more teachers, enroll more students, and host more courses. We developed a track record, an established user base, consistent revenue figures, and we are opting for Series A funding to further optimize our user base and services. We are seeking to fill a $65,000USD budget towards more marketing and presenting at more industry events abroad. We want to grow by 200% in 18 months, and bring back, at a minimum, an annualized 47% ROI for our amazing investors. Situation Analysis According to the Washington Post, 70% of teachers in North America feel they are underpaid for their work, this statistic is used to reflect the views of teachers in our local market because of very similar cultures around education. 65% of these teachers are actually underpaid. According to the WorldBank, The average budget allocation for an education budget is 13%, yet education accounts for 90% of an individuals success (DebtDiscpline, 2016). These conditions make teachers dislike where they work, and students do not like where they learn. Online teaching is an increasingly attractive alternative for students. Majority of certified online courses and significantly cheaper than physical classes (UTEP Connect). In America alone, 6 million are pursuing online education. The teachers behind this growth were once traditional school teachers. Most of these teachers work in schools and universities, yet they still have joy for their profession despite the conditions that force them to find an alternative. These teachers rarely feel attached to their workplace. There will always be a need to give teachers a way to start teaching online independently. The online education industry is a $325B market (Forbes 2018), included in that market are services for online educators, which we believe make up 30% of the market ($97.5B). Our goal is to facilitate 0.5% of that market, which represents the educators’ ($487M) (OurWorldInData, 2019). Online resources have not been used to their fullest extent with online teaching, which gives us plenty of room to be creative and grow beyond the competition. We want to use this room for growth to position our customers as entrepreneurs with direct help from a third-party platform. Positioning Project Jaguar will position itself as a primary source of income for dissatisfied teachers who want to become entrepreneurs. Project Jaguar's competitive edge will be based on two factors, guidance, and convenience. 1. Convenience:Free is always more convenient. We make it convenient for a teacher to sign up and create a course in under 4 mouse clicks using the free tier with no commitment. 2. Guidance:We use the “Flagship Teachers” program to incubate teachers that are serious about teaching online full-time. We get the teacher to progress from running 1 online course to operating an online teaching business using our platform. The goal is to transform teachers into “teacherpreneurs”. Marketing Mix Project Jaguar's marketing mix is comprised of the following approaches to pricing, distribution, advertising and promotion, and customer service. ● Pricing:T he scheme is to make our pricing transparent, to make money as our customers make money, and keep our variable fees below 8%. This applies to payment processing fees and marketing budget management fees. ● Distribution:All services will be offered by using our website. We want our product to be simple to access and use. Our free and paid services will be delivered without human interaction. ● Advertising and promotion:We will advertise our free services, then upsell our other services by reaching out to customers that have used our free services. ● Customer service:All our employees will be able to offer the same level of customer service. Marketing Research During the development of the business and marketing plans, Project Jaguar performed marketing research to validate its idea. This marketing research took two forms. A focus group & social media marketing. ● The focus group was held to gain customer insight. The focus group is in the form of a Whatsapp group which you can join here. This focus group grows gradually and has helped the administration fix some kinks within the app and the company structure through suggestions given by the participants. The focus group helps us to build a personal relationship with interested customers to introduce these people to the “Project Jaguar Community”. ● Our social media marketing campaigns identified that many teachers are open to the idea of teaching online, and view it as a viable source of revenue to replace a physical classroom. Through interactions with our customers, the majority of teachers display a solid understanding of how to use online tools to deliver content, but they struggle to develop a long-term plan to keep consistent and manage their students. This source of marketing research was helpful in realizing what services we can offer in addition to the Online Course Management Platform. The research brought about the Flagship Teachers program and our Free Business Plans service for teachers in the Caribbean. Opportunities ● We can hire employees internationally. ● We can host accredited and unaccredited courses of teachers. ● The ability to expand globally with the right partnerships. Threats ● The expense of running media ads and marketing. ● We’re doing something very new. The teachers we attract are reached by physical marketing: presenting at expos, and conferences. This has a direct impact on use for our site & revenue. This was recognized after the increase in activity at the TESOL Expo in Courtleigh, Jamaica. The growth in our user-base from that conference also brought more revenue, awareness, and reliability. On average, an expo brings us 145 new students & 72 new teachers with $1,900 in revenue in the first 3 days. (90% turnover from the average cost of traveling to an expo with 1 person) 1.
