A Letter from the President I t is truly a pleasure to welcome you and your guests to Benedictine College for the Presidential Scholars Weekend. You should be proud to be here. It is quite an achievement to be considered for one of our 10 full-tuition Presidential Scholarships and one of the five three-quarter-tuition Dean’s Scholarships. We hope you enjoy a challenging but rewarding weekend with us. Each person here is one of our best and brightest applicants, with the potential to be a leader on our campus. You come to Benedictine College, a top 15 U.S. News & World Report Best College, at an exciting time. We were blessed to have a strong plan already in place that not only weathered the storm of the pandemic, but resulted in record enrollment and fundraising in 2020. Our Benedictine 2020 plan made exciting progress in all three aspects of our mission of community, faith, and scholarship. • Community. We opened nine new residence halls, a new Dining Hall with its distinctive clock tower; renovated our football, basketball, baseball, softball, wrestling, and soccer facilities; and built the new Murphy Recreation Center. • Faith. The college was consecrated to Mary, enthroned the Sacred Heart, opened three new chapels, each providing students 24-hour access to the Blessed Sacrament, and 1 in 3 students participated in mission trips, visiting 14 countries on four continents. • Scholarship. We recently finished building America’s finest small-college science and engineering building — one of five new academic buildings in seven years — and have added an architecture major. Our Great Books Program was rated one of the top 25 Great Books Programs in the country by Best College Reviews, and our nursing school was ranked in the top 50. Be sure to explore our Programs of Distinction: Honors, Gregorian Fellows, STEM Fellows and, now, Constitutional Fellows! Now we are looking to the future. Those institutions that succeed after the COVID-19 pandemic will be those that prepared for the future during the pandemic. We can’t wait to show you what the college is planning for future Ravens. Benedictine College is truly a place Where Greatness Begins. Our alumni include bishops, doctors, lawyers, engineers, bank presidents, university presidents, and a Nobel Peace Prize Laureate — and each of them began as a prospective student like yourself. I hope we can meet in person this weekend. I invite you to consider what you could become by being a Raven. Congratulations on your achievements, Stephen D. Minnis ’82 President
