DEFINITIONS OF COMPETITIONS LEVELS: • Open: Means all ages and all ability levels (students / apprentices / new talent / new competitor/ experienced professionals and seasoned competitors). • Level A: Is proposed for either students, apprentices, new talents or experienced professionals just getting started in competitions. Experienced competitors should refrain from entering these competitions. • Level AA: Is proposed for experienced competitors confident in their skills and ready to take it to the next level. Anyone can enter if they feel they can compete at an AA level. • Photo Ready Finish: In the days of social media where every event is shared live by both the artists and the model (client). The judges will evaluate the finished product both as seen live and then as seen on screen after a professional photo is taken. • Before and After: A before picture will be taken just before the competition starts and an after photo will be taken at the end of the competition. The judges will use both photos to qualify the work being done in terms of difficulty level and finished quality. • Team Competition: A team competition is where the entire team is judged as one, so if the competition asks for hair, nails, makeup and fashion – each aspect will be judged individually and then as a total look, but only the total mark will decide the winner; unless noted otherwise in the specific competition rules. ENTRY FEES • Saturday’s Demonstration: Bridal Fashion Show and Hair Color Fashion Show. Note that if you are an active ABA member you benefit from a $50 discount on the show registration fees, the member fee is $200. If not, the non-member price is $250 (this includes a one-year membership for one person and the show registration. If you register for more than one show you need only to pay the non-member price once and then register to all other competitions at the member price). • OPEN AND LEVEL AA COMPETITIONS: Note that if you are an active ABA member you benefit from a $50 discount on the show registration fees, the member fee is $100. If not, the non-member price is $150 (this includes a one-year membership for one person and the show registration. If you register for more than one show you need only to pay the non-member price once and then register to all other competitions at the member price). • LEVEL A COMPETITIONS: Thanks to a very generous sponsorship by PIVOT POINT, the entry fees are waived. BUT, competitors must register for the competition in advance. Note that only pre-registered participants will be allowed to compete, no waiting list nor on-site registration will be allowed. • BE FAIR….DO NOT REGISTER IF YOU ARE NOT 100% CERTAIN TO ATTEND – YOU’D BE TAKING SOMEONE ELSE’S PLACE AND WASTING EVERYONE’S TIME AND MONEY . GENERAL RULES FOR ALL ABA COMPETITIONS: 1. MODELS: When a model is required, all competitors must bring a live Female, Male, or otherwise specified model fourteen (14) years of age or older as well as their tools & products in order to participate. Both the competitor and the model must sign a waiver and/or model release form (available at check-in) to be approved to compete. 2. MODELS: Must wear capes during cutting and styling: -1 Demerit point or failure. 3. MODELS: Must refrain from using blow dryers or arranging their own hair with fingers: -1 Demerit for failure. 4. ELECTRICITY: You have access to one electrical plug. Only one tool can be plugged in at a time. Power bars are not allowed. 5. MOVING FOR JUDGING: When asked to move a model to a different area for judging, the competitor will be given exactly 1 minute /60 seconds to ensure the model is moved. If needed the judges may allow a supplementary minute for fixing of fallen hair (comb/brush/hairspray only). 6. AUDIENCE HELP: Coaching or directions from the audience will result in -5 Demerit points. 3
7. JUDGING: Judges will use the Guidelines to Ranking: Four Criterion to Scoring: a) Competition Quality/Technical Excellence (Workmanship Skills) b) Suitability (to the category and models’ head/face structure) c) Creativity and Colour (Degrees of new creativity, use of colour to enhance haircut and style) d) Model presentation ABA Canada reserves the right to amend, correct or change the above rules up to one week before the competition. Range from 20-30 points. **NOTICE OF PHOTOGRAPHY: Photographs of various people and activities will be taken from time to time in this ABA competition location(s). Please be aware that you may be photographed during your visit to our event without any further notice. By entering this ABA event location you understand that your image may appear in various forms of media; you agree to the use of your image without compensation or notice; and you further release Allied Beauty Association Inc. and their agents from any liability arising from your presence in the ABA event location. For a All Competitions: DEMERITS: Please refer to the general rules for all other regulations and demerits. Sages on the competition floor will give demerits. Commissionaire will review demerits and a collective majority will result in the final demerits to be handed in to the tabulator by the Commissionaire. The tabulator will deduct the demerits from final score. The decisions of the Sages and Judges are final. ABA TRANSFORMATION / CORRECTIVE / SPECIAL EFFECT MAKEUP PHOTO READY CATEGORY: Makeup Artistry LEVEL: Level AA FAST AGEING MAKEUP – 50 YEARS OLDER Makeup is an art whereby an artist can drastically transform, correct, enhance, reshape, alter and modify someone’s features, in a realistic look that is both wearable and photo ready. Judges will be looking for Technique, Corrective Application, Colour Enhancement, Fashion Effect, Creativity, Originality and Overall Model Presentation. In this competition the makeup artist must achieve a believable aging of a person by seemingly 5 decades. The gender of the model is up to the makeup artist, but the makeup final look should not change the gender perception of the model. At completion of makeup the model cape must be removed, and the clothing must be in accordance with the look completed. Please note: this is a FULL FACE makeup look. This competition is open to Level AA experienced competitors confident in their skills and ready to take it to the next level. There is limited space available, pre-registration is required. Competitors will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. All competitors must check in at the ABA registration desk at least one hour prior to the competition time. If a competitor is late, they may forfeit their place in the competition and their paid entry fee. RULES: 1. REPORT TO FLOOR: Models must report to their positions and must be draped and ready for the competition with face cleaned and free from the neck up of any cosmetics, moisturizers and any type of false lashes (–1 to –3 Demerit points). Photo of each model will be taken before competition starts. 2. START HAIR: Model’s hair must be 100% pulled back off the face in a ponytail or simple bun when arriving to the competition floor (–2 Demerit points). 3. START TIME: Competitors will be removed from the competition floor after they have set up their workspace to allow Judges to preview the model’s faces prior to makeup application. Upon the time the Judges complete their previewing, the competition will begin. 4. PROSTHESIS: Usage of prosthesis is allowed, all prothesis must be applied during the competition, any that are applied before competition may cause disqualification of the competitor or at least -5 demerit points. 5. TOOLS: The competitor will provide all working tools and be responsible for his/ her own model. No personal makeup trolleys, stools or chairs are allowed (–1 to -5 Demerit points). 6. MAKEUP: The competitor will provide all makeup. No assistants allowed to assist on the floor (-1 to -5 Demerit points). 7. FINISHED HAIR: Models hair must be styled, a wig or a hat may be added to create the aged look desired. (-1 to -3 Demerit points 8. CLOTHING: Total look must be presented. No nudity allowed (-2 to -3 Demerit points). 9. DURING: Talking between the artist/model is allowed, softly & professionally without being disruptive (-5 Demerit points). 5
10. JUDGING: Will be done in 2 stages – on the final physical look and on a photo seen from a tablet. Please read the general competition rules for definition of Photo Ready Finish. Skills being judged are: Creativity, Workmanship, Precision, Harmony and Cleanliness. 11. COMPETITION: Time to complete the look is 90 minutes. Judges will use the Guidelines to Ranking Scores; four criterions for Judging Makeup: 1. Technique (foundations) 2. Corrective Application (foundations) 3. Color Enhancement (finish) 4. ABA 3D NAIL ART CHALLENGE CANADIAN FAUNA / FLORA ON LIVE MODEL HAND / PHOTO READY CATEGORY: Nails Artistry LEVEL: Level AA In today’s Social Media world, creativity and workmanship are two very important skills in order to develop a solid and faithful clientele. Many customers are looking for innovative designs, seasonal themes and why not make a political or artistic statement. This 3D Nail Art Challenge is your opportunity to demonstrate your creativity and impress the judges and the audience with your creativity and technical skills. As hands, and especially nails, are continually showcased on Instagram and Facebook, in this competition it is expected that the nail tech artist will create a photo ready nail art design that explores the mandated theme #FAUNAFLORA. This nail art creation should reflect the artist’s own interpretation of CANADIAN #FAUNAFLORA for flawless photo ops. This competition is open to Level AA experienced competitors confident in their skills and ready to take it to the next level. There is limited space available, pre-registration is required. Competitors will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. All competitors must check in at the ABA registration desk at least one hour prior to the competition time. If a competitor is late, they may forfeit their place in the competition and their paid entry fee. RULES: 1. PRE-WORK: A 100 words max text must be prepared to explain the idea process and the concept to be unveiled – this text will be presented to the Judges at time of judging. 2. NAILS: One hand must be completed prior to the competition and kept covered to create an element of surprise with the finished look. ONLY ONE HAND is done during the competition. 3. ARTWORK: All artwork must be done on site on the hand to be done. No pre-artwork allowed, nails must be bare of polish and adornments; but fully formed and filed. 4. NAIL BASE: Nail base must already be done prior to competition (no shaping/ cutting), this is a painting and embellishment competition (-3 Demerit points). 5. IMPORTANT: All 5 fingers do not have to be identical, but they must be an ensemble and respect the theme – FAUNA / FLORA 6. PRODUCT: All work must be done by Gel paint, hand painting only. No airbrushing, stamping, Acrylic polish or Acrylic paint allowed. Only Gel paint and nail polish may be used (-3 Demerit points). 7. TOOLS & PRODUCT: All products and tools are to be supplied by the competitor. 8. EMBELLISHMENT: This is a 3D competition so embellishments such as decorative items, art pieces, jewels, stones, studs, beads, glitters, etc. must be utilized on all fingers (- 3 demerits points). 9. SPRAY: No spray of any sort can be used. 10. SIZE: The finished look of each nail cannot exceed the following dimensions: width 2cm, height 1.5cm, length 4cm (-1 to -5 Demerit points). 11. MODEL: Model CANNOT assist in work - applying nail polish, filing, holding tools, etc (-3 Demerit points). 12. COMPETITION TIME: You have exactly 60 minutes to finish your work. 7
13. JUDGING: Judging based on originality, visual interest, presentation, balance, design, detail, overall impression, complexity, workmanship. 14. ABA WOMEN’S TREND CUT, STYLE AND FASHION ON A LIVE MODEL CATEGORY: Women’s LEVEL: Level AA The competitor has the complete freedom to design and create a women’s trend cut using a LIVE MODEL. Trend Cut and Style must be reflecting the commercial editorial trends of the current season as seen in international fashion magazines or on the runways of major fashion shows. Finish the total look with women’s fashion styling to complete your interpretation of this category. IMPORTANT: Trend Cut & Style IS NOT equivalent to OMC Progressive. This cut must show excellent workmanship in the technical haircutting skills and the stylist may use up to 3 colours including the base colour to enhance their cut. The combination of technical excellence in the cut, supported by the colour and the quality of finishing are extremely important design elements in creating a winning look. This competition is open to Level AA experienced competitors confident in their skills and ready to take it to the next level. There is a limited space available, pre-registration is required, competitors will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. All competitors must check in at the ABA registration desk at least one hour prior to the competition time. If a competitor is late, they may forfeit their place in the competition and their paid entry fee. RULES: 1. HAIR: All 5 areas of model’s hair must be cut by at least 1 inch (2.5cm) during the competition, -1 demerit per area not cut will be taken. Competitor must show a transformation in the model’s hair. The Sages will pre-inspect model’s hair prior to the competition and visually during to be sure all areas are cut. 2. COLOUR: All Commercial Color is permitted – color must be pre-done (no color done during competition). No Chalk, powder, glitter, sparkles or spray colors are allowed at the competition (-5 Demerit points) 3. EXTENSIONS / ACCESSORIES: Usage of extensions, hair pieces, accessories, adornments are prohibited (-1 to -3 Demerits points) 4. TOOLS AND PRODUCT: All tools and styling products are allowed and are provided by the contestant. Straight razors are allowed. Competitor must reload a new razor in the presence of a Sage and dispose that razor in a container provided at the end of the competition. 5. CLOTHING: Must fit the overall theme and presentation. Clothing will be judged as part of the Total Look. 6. MAKEUP: Model must wear makeup that is compatible with the finished look presented, final touch-ups are allowed – but only if performed by artists, model is not allowed to touch-up her own makeup. Makeup will be judged as part of the final look. 7. COMPETITION TIME: 45 Minutes will be given to complete this competition. Arriving late will result in demerits and arriving more than 5 minutes will result in a forfeit. 9

ABA MEN’S TREND CUT, STYLE AND FASHION TOTAL LOOK ON LIVE MODEL CATEGORY: Men’s LEVEL: Level AA Men’s trends are evolving; therefore, the pompadour style is not as much in demand anymore. In 2020 we are following the barbering trends toward more of a lifestyle evolution…bringing us to this revised competition that will test the competitor’s ability to design and execute a fresh new haircut cut & style for today’s trending man. Finish the total look with men’s fashion styling to complete your interpretation of this category. BARBERS AND HAIRDRESSERS ARE INVITED TO COMPETE IN THIS CATEGORY. The Judges will be using the Guidelines to Ranking and will be looking for Technical excellence, Suitability, Creativity and Color and Model presentation. This competition is open to Level AA, experienced competitors confident in their skills. There is limited space available, pre-registration is required. Competitors will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. All competitors must check in at the ABA registration desk at least one hour prior to the competition time. If a competitor is late, they may forfeit their place in the competition and their paid entry fee. RULES: 1. ABA GLAMOUR / BRIDAL MAKEUP DAYTIME PHOTO READY FINISH CATEGORY: Bridal Makeup LEVEL: Open to all levels Every bride wants to look picture perfect on her special day. Makeup is a large part of the day. This competition allows the makeup artist to create a photo ready daytime makeup design suited for the everyday glamorous bride. This makeup should reflect the artist’s own interpretation as to how to enhance cosmetic highlights, contour and shades for the models’ face structure & features and coordinate with the photo ready daytime bridal theme. Ethnic type bridal makeup is also allowed. The Judges will be looking for Technique, Corrective Application, Colour enhancement, Fashion Effect and overall model presentation. The same model can be used in the Bridal Long Hair Competition. This competition is open to all levels of experience of aesthetician, cosmetologist, makeup artist, hairstylist, student or professional, with training and experience in makeup artistry as well as new competitors and seasoned competitors. There is limited space available, pre-registration is required. Competitors will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. All competitors must check in at the ABA registration desk at least one hour prior to the competition time. If a competitor is late, they may forfeit their place in the competition and their paid entry fee. RULES: 1. FINAL HAIR LOOK: The hair will not be considered in the judging and we recommend that it remains in the slicked back / ponytail look of the beginning. 11. CLOTHING: Total bride design for real everyday brides’ wedding attire (-2 to -3 Demerit points). 12

ABA GLAMOUR / BRIDAL LONG HAIR READY TO WEAR ON LIVE MODEL - WITH UP TO 3 SURPRISE WISHES DAYTIME PHOTO READY FINISH CATEGORY: Bridal Hair LEVEL: OPEN This Bridal Long Hair competition allows the stylist to be creative with the freedom to design and execute a beautiful long hair updo ready to wear for the everyday glamorous bride. The model hair can be styled all up and/or have some down. The stylist should keep in mind the brides of today and what they are wearing. Judges will be using the Guidelines to Ranking and looking for Technical Excellence, Suitability, Creativity, Colour and Model presentation. IMPORTANT: Up to 3 “Surprise Wishes” will be announced at the beginning of the competition. Special Wishes have to be integrated in the total look in a harmonious, creative and efficient way. Potential wishes are: Twist, Braid, Knot, Side Swept Bangs, Hair Jewelry, flowers, etc. This competition is open to all levels of experience of aesthetician, cosmetologist, makeup artist, hairstylist, student or professional, with training and experience in makeup artistry as well as new competitors and seasoned competitors. There is limited space available, preregistration is required. Competitors will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. All competitors must check in at the ABA registration desk at least one hour prior to the competition time. If a competitor is late, they may forfeit their place in the competition and their paid entry fee. Please read the general competition rules for definition of Photo Ready Finish. RULES: 1. HAIR LENGTH: The Hair must be shoulder length or longer, layers are optional and the minimum length in layers must be 25cm. Bang area can be no deeper into hair than 2.5 cm (-1 to -3 Demerit points). 2. HAIR: The model will arrive to competition floor with straight hair, not fixed, styled or set in any way, demerits will result if this rule is not followed (extensions allowed, see rules). The Sage and/or Commissionaire will brush through hair in the presence of the stylist during the pre-check of model’s hair (-2 Demerit points). 3. UP-STYLE: At least 50% of the hair must be styled in an updo fashion, the rest can be flowing, braided, styled. (-3 Demerit points) 4. TOOLS & PRODUCT: All styling tools & products are allowed and are provided by the contestant. 5. EXTENSIONS: Hair extensions are allowed and must be added prior to coming on the competition floor (-4 Demerit points). 6. CUTTING: Competitors may use scissors during the competition to clean up ends only. No length may change (-2 Demerit points). 7. COLOUR: ONLY 3 colours may be used including the overall base colour (- 3 Demerit points). All commercial colours are accepted. It is recommended that the stylist consider current trends for colour and placement as accents to their style, keeping in mind the newest trends and design principles for bridal hair. No sprays, chalks or pens of any kind may be applied on the competition floor (-3 Demerit points). 8. SUPPORTS: Adding of any kind of supports or fillers in this competition are not allowed (-2 Demerit points). 9. HAIRPIECES: Hairpieces are NOT allowed (-4 Demerit points). 14
10. ORNAMENTS: Ornaments are allowed and must fit the bridal theme (-3 to -5 Demerit points). Demerits will result for any resemblance of International fashion long hair design and/or attire (-3 Demerit points). 11. CLOTHING: Total bridal design for the real everyday bride’s wedding attire (-2 to -3 Demerit Points). 12. COMPETITION TIME: 30 minutes will be given to complete this competition. Arriving late will result in demerits and arriving more than 5 minutes will result in a forfeit. 13. JUDGING: Will be done in 2 stages – on the final physical look and on a photo seen from a tablet. ABA TRANSFORMATION / CORRECTIVE / SPECIAL EFFECT MAKEUP PHOTO READY CATEGORY: Makeup Artistry LEVEL: Level A – Students / Apprentices / New Talent / New Competitors GENDER BENDING – HALF MALE / HALF FEMALE Makeup is an art whereby an artist can drastically transform, correct, enhance, reshape, alter and modify someone’s features, in a realistic look that is both wearable and photo ready. Judges will be looking for Technique, Corrective Application, Colour Enhancement, Fashion Effect, Creativity, Originality and Overall Model Presentation. In this competition the makeup artist must achieve a half male / half female glamour / evening look. This is an above the shoulder look only, clothing will not be evaluated. Recommendation is that the model is dressed in a monochromatic tone. This competition is open to Level A makeup artists: students, apprentices, new talents or experienced professionals just getting started in competitions. Experienced competitors should refrain from entering those competitions. There is limited space available, pre-registration is required. Competitors will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. All competitors must check in at the ABA registration desk at least one hour prior to the competition time. If a competitor is late, they may forfeit their place in the competition and their paid entry fee. RULES: 1. REPORT TO FLOOR: Models must report to their positions and must be draped and ready for the competition with face cleaned and free from the neck up of any cosmetics, moisturizers and any type of false lashes (–1 to –3 Demerit points). Photo of each model will be taken before competition starts. 2. START TIME: Competitors will be removed from the competition floor after they have set up their workspace to allow Judges to preview the model’s faces prior to makeup application. Upon the time the Judges complete their previewing, the competition will begin. 3. START HAIR: Model’s hair must be 100% pulled back off the face in a ponytail or simple bun when arriving to the competition floor (–2 Demerit points). 4. PROSTHESIS: Usage of prosthesis is NOT allowed, (-5 demerit points). 5. TOOLS: The competitor will provide all working tools and be responsible for his/her own model. No personal makeup trolleys, stools or chairs are allowed (–1 to -5 Demerit points). 6. MAKEUP: The competitor will provide all makeup. No assistants allowed to assist on the floor (-1 to -5 Demerit points). 7. COMPLETE LOOK: Both sides of the face must have makeup applied for a realistic photo-ready look on either side. (-1 to -3 Demerit points) 8. LASHES: False eyelashes or lashes inserts must be applied DURING COMPETITION TIME, failure to apply lashes will result in demerits (-2 Demerit points). 9. FINISHED HAIR: Models hair must be styled, a wig, a hair piece or a hat may be added to create the look desired. (-1 to -3 Demerit points). 10. CLOTHING: Clothing will not be judged, we recommend monochromatic looks, scoop or deep V-neck top. No nudity allowed (-2 to -3 Demerit points). 11. NAILS / ACCESSORIES: Stick-on nails, jewels or accessories may be used to enhance the look, but will not be considered in the judging. 16
12. Talking between the artist/model is allowed, softly & professionally without being disruptive (-5 Demerit points). 13. ABA NAIL ART 2D CHALLENGE BE MY VALENTINE ON LIVE MODEL HAND / PHOTO READY CATEGORY: Nails Artistry LEVEL: Level A – Students / Apprentices / New Talent / New Competitors In today’s Social Media world, creativity and workmanship are two very important skills in order to develop a solid and faithful clientele. Many customers are looking for innovative designs, seasonal themes and why not make a political or artistic statement. This Nail Art 2D Challenge is your opportunity to demonstrate your creativity and impress the judges and the audience with your hand painting skills. As hands, and especially nails, are continually showcased on Instagram and Facebook, in this competition it is expected that the nail tech artist will create a photo ready nail art design that explores the mandated theme #BEMYVALENTINE This nail art creation should reflect the artist’s own interpretation of #BEMYVALENTINE for flawless photo ops. This competition is open to Level A nail artists: students, apprentices, new talents or experienced professionals just getting started in competitions. Experienced competitors should refrain from entering those competitions. There is limited space available, pre-registration is required. Competitors will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. All competitors must check in at the ABA registration desk at least one hour prior to the competition time. ARTWORK: All artwork must be done on site on the hand to be done. No pre-artwork allowed, nails must be bare of polish and adornments; but fully formed and filed. 3. NAIL BASE: Nail base must already be done prior to competition (no /shaping/ cutting), this is a painting and flat embellishment competition (stickers, stamps, glitter, gel) (-3 Demerit points). 4. IMPORTANT: All 5 fingers do not have to be identical, but they must be an ensemble and respect the theme – BE MY VALENTINE 5. PRODUCT: All work must be done by Gel paint, hand painting only. No airbrushing, Acrylic polish or Acrylic paint allowed. Only Gel paint and nail polish may be used (-3 Demerit points). 6. TOOLS & PRODUCT: All products and tools are to be supplied by the competitor. 7. EMBELLISHMENT: This is a 2D competition not 3D, nails are to be flat. Use of gel, glitter, stamps and stickers can be used to create the final look. 8. SPRAY: No spray of any sort can be used. 9. SIZE: The finished look of each nails cannot exceed the width or height of the nail by more than 0.5cm and the nail length must be less than 2cm long (-1 to -5 Demerit points). 10. ABA TEAM COMPETITION COUPLE MAKE OVER (HAIR – MAKEUP – FASHION) CATEGORY: Look Book Photo Ready Competition LEVEL A – Student or Apprentice Team (max of 3 per team) In this Couple Make Over Competition, a team of three (3) students from the same school or three (3) apprentices that form their own team, must create a compelling couple fashion commercial look as seen in retail stores look books, advertisement, posters, websites or social media platforms. The final couple look created must comprise of 2 models (two males, two females or 1 male / 1 female). Each model must have received a full hair style transformation and full makeup application as well as a complete change of clothing for the reveal in front of the judges and the photographer. No haircuts to be performed during the competition. The look created should be a possible for a retail store campaign for banners such as RW&Co, Le Chateau, UniQlo, Simons, etc. for a market of 16 to 35 years of age. THEME: OPPOSITE ATTRACTS (opposite colors, short vs tall, everything up vs everything down, hot vs cold, wet vs dry, etc.) The Judges will be looking for Technique, Corrective Application, Colour enhancement, Fashion Effect and overall model presentation. Model(s) cannot be one of the 3 team members. This competition is open to students, apprentices or beginners in aesthetics, cosmetology, makeup artistry, hairstyling. Fees for this competition are subsidized by PIVOT POINT for students of recognized hairdressing school. Other participants must pay the usual competition fees. There is limited space available, pre-registration is required. Team must register as a team, all 3 competitors registered simultaneously. Competitors will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. All competitors must check in at the ABA registration desk at least one hour prior to the competition time. If a competitor is late, they may forfeit their place in the competition and their paid entry fee. RULES: 1. HAIR: The model will arrive to competition floor with straight hair, not fixed, styled or set in any way, demerits will result if this rule is not followed (extensions allowed, see rules). The Sage and/or Commissionaire will brush through hair in the presence of the stylist during the pre-check of model’s hair (-2 Demerit points). 3. TOOLS & PRODUCT: All styling tools & products are allowed and are provided by the contestant. 4. EXTENSIONS: Hair extensions are allowed and must be added prior to coming on the competition floor (-4 Demerit points). 5. CUTTING: Competitors may use scissors during the competition to clean up ends only. No length may change (-2 Demerit points). 20
6. COLOUR: Models hair must be at least 35% colored – any color and any number of colors are accepted (- 3 Demerit points). All commercial colours are accepted. It is recommended that the stylist consider current trends for colour and placement as accents to their style, keeping in mind the newest trends and design principles for Spring Summer 2020 Fashion. No sprays, chalks or pens of any kind may be applied on the competition floor (-3 Demerit points). 7. START TIME: Competitors will be removed from the competition floor after they have set up their workspace to allow Judges to preview the model’s faces prior to makeup application. Hats, caps, beany or any head covering are not allowed as they will defeat the purpose off styling hair. 14. CLOTHING: Total look respecting the theme, the target market and the seasonal trend (-2 to -3 Demerit points). NO NUDITY, NO VIOLENT/DISCRIMINATORY/OFFENSIVE messages can be on any garments or accessories featured (-1 to -3 points). 15. ABA MEN’S TREND CUT, FADE & STYLE ON A MANNEQUIN HEAD PIVOT POINT’S COLE CATEGORY: Men’s LEVEL: Level A – Students / Apprentices / New Talent / New Competitors This Men’s Trend Cut, Fade & Style on MH will allow the Level A Competitor to apply their skills by duplicating a cut with & style from an image. The image will be distributed at the beginning of the competition, see next page for examples of possible styles. The Judges will use the Guidelines to Ranking and will look for Technical Excellence, image matching and mannequin presentation. This competition is open to Level A Competitors: students, apprentices, new talent and professionals new to competitions. There is limited space available, pre-registration is required. Competitors will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. All competitors must check in at the ABA registration desk at least one hour prior to the competition time. If a competitor is late, they may forfeit their place in the competition and their paid entry fee. RULES: 1. MANNEQUIN: All competitors will use mannequin head to be provided to them 30 minutes before the competition. The mannequin head is provided by PIVOT POINT and will be model COLE. 2. IMPORTANT: Competitor must duplicate the cut with fade & style as shown in the provided image to the best of their ability. 3. HAIR: All 5 areas of mannequin hair must be cut during the competition time (-1 Demerit per area not cut). 4. The Sages will pre-inspect mannequin’s hair prior to competition and visually during to be sure all areas are cut. 5. TOOLS & PRODUCTS: All tool and styling products are allowed and provided by the competitor. Straight razors are allowed. Competitor must reload a new razor in the presence of a Sage and dispose of razor in a container provided at the end of the competition. 6. CLOTHING: Mannequin must be clothed or draped and must fit the overall theme and presentation. The mannequin head will be mounted on a tripod and competitors will have 30 minutes backstage to dress and prepare the mannequin’s look. 7. COMPETITION TIME: 30 Minutes will be given to complete this competition. ABA WOMEN’S TREND CUT & STYLE ON A MANNEQUIN HEAD – PIVOT POINT VIOLA CATEGORY: Women’s LEVEL: Level A – Students / Apprentices / New Talent / New Competitors The competitor has the complete freedom to design and create a women’s trend cut using a PIVOT POINT VIOLA MANNEQUIN HEAD. Trend Cut and Style must be reflecting the commercial editorial trends of the current season as seen in international fashion magazines or on the runways of major fashion shows. IMPORTANT: Trend Cut & Style IS NOT equivalent to OMC Progressive. This cut must show excellent workmanship in the technical haircutting skills and the stylist may use up to 3 colours including the base colour to enhance their cut. The combination of technical excellence in the cut, supported by the colour and the quality of finishing are extremely important design elements in creating a winning look. This competition is open to Level A hairdressers: students, apprentices, new talents or experienced professionals just getting started in competitions. Experienced competitors should refrain from entering those competitions. There is a limited space available, pre-registration is required, competitors will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. All competitors must check in at the ABA registration desk at least one hour prior to the competition time. If a competitor is late, they may forfeit their place in the competition and their paid entry fee. RULES: 1. HAIR: All 5 areas of mannequin’s hair must be cut by at least 1 inch (2.5cm) during the competition, -1 demerit per area not cut will be taken. Competitor must show a transformation in the mannequin hair. The Sages will pre-inspect model’s hair prior to the competition and visually during to be sure all areas are cut. 2. MANNEQUIN HEAD: The mannequin head are supplied by PIVOT POINT. Fees for this competition are subsidized by PIVOT POINT for students of recognized hairdressing school. Other participants must pay the usual competition fees. Participants must be entered by January 15th to allow for mannequin head to be sent to them to work on their color prior to the competition. 3. TRIPOD: PIVOT POINT will ensure that either tripods or table attached mannequin head holders will be available for all contestants to use during the competitions, those shall remain on site afterwards. 4. COLOUR: All Commercial Color is permitted – color must be pre-done (no color done during competition). No Chalk, powder, glitter, sparkles or spray colors are allowed at the competition (-5 Demerit points) 5. EXTENSIONS / ACCESSORIES: Usage of extensions, hair pieces, accessories, adornments are prohibited (-1 to -3 Demerits points) 6. TOOLS AND PRODUCT: All tools and styling products are allowed and are provided by the contestant. Straight razors are allowed.
