New database Tried and tested methods are being superseded by innovations. IPRO users can embrace this development, utilise the opportunities and avoid the risks. Because patient and order information play a crucial role in this development, – a milestone IPRO is investing in a new database to enable quick and easy access to a much larger amount of data. While on the one hand the major forms of distribution are expanding their market shares, on the other hand, the supplier market is reorganising itself via mergers and acquisitions. And this is only the beginning. Sooner or later, new in IPRO history stakeholders will also enter the ophthalmic optics market. But all evidence suggests that it is not the big who will conquer the small, but the fast who will conquer the slow. This is the opportunity for small and medium-sized opticians and audiologists who receive professional support from IPRO. IPRO is one of the leading providers of IT for opticians and audiologists in Europe – an innovative and medium-sized company. A daughter company of Bern-based Haag-Streit AG, renowned for its stability and quality. Many users have been working with IPRO for almost 40 years and in doing so, have experienced many groundbreaking innovations – from the first electronic lens order via the first Windows programme up to 3D refraction with PASKAL 3D. Ophthalmic optics is entering the digital world. A process that brings with it many opportunities, but also raises concerns. Sales and processes are entering new territories and utilising the internet to some extent. Data is the new oil. 12 IPRO looking forward | Edition 01 2018 40 For nearly years IPRO looking forward | Edition 01 2018 13
We have introduced a new database at opti 2018 in Munich. It is the technical foundation upon which we have based IPRO’s strategy for a successful future. Over the coming months, all IPRO users will receive this new database, which will initially be used alongside the existing database. It will be free of charge and without any installation costs. The new database will then take over all data and tasks in stages. These changes over the next few years will include a host of new features and services, made possible only because your data will be stored in a better, faster and safer environment. With the new database, winIPRO will support state-of- the-art digital catalogue formats such as LC7, B2B Frame and Spectaris CL. A new incremental system for data backup will provide ready-made administration for generations management. New options will be created in the order monitoring system which will make compilation of lists significantly faster – even if bugs in the system have slowed it down. The trust of our customers If a new regulation receives the name ‘Data Protection Regulation’, it is immediately clear that it is not just a pro- gramme to make business life simpler. Furthermore, in May 2018 a whole host of new rules and regulations come into force, the purpose of which is to improve the security of personal data. Ophthalmic optics and audiology are among the industries requiring the highest degree of trust. This trust must be justified by a well organised data protection. The starting point of the regulation is the reverse of the focus on rights and obligations. Where previously the patient had to prove that the company had violated data protection , it is now the company who must disclose for what reason which data have been stored. However, in the case of ophthalmic optics and audiology, this has been put into perspective by the Medical Products Law. It is easy to explain why it is necessary to be fully familiar with the sight and hearing history of a patient in order to be able to best advise them. Universities and associations are encouraged to support businesses on this issue. IPRO users can be assured that the software version they are using will meet the known requirements until the beginning of April 2018.
