We are ready to expand our services and programs in a safe manner following all the most recent health guidelines to ensure positive experiences for all of Director of Parks & our facility users. Recreation, If you haven't seen it yet, Wells Park has recently created a "Mini-Pitch" provided through the US Soccer Foundation Frank Carson and the Target Corporation. If you do not know what a mini-pitch is, it is a hardcourt mini soccer court with walls. Similar to arena soccer, but on concrete. It has become extremely popular at Wells park. We look forward to expanding our youth sports programming given the most recent guideline updates, including volleyball! The Hillside Community Center plans to offer spring day camp, similar to the manner we offered summer camp. The El Cajon Parks & Recreation Department is proud to be able to say that we have successfully kept all of our parks open over the past year so our citizens can enjoy active recreation. We encourage you the visit your local park, be active and enjoy the outdoors in a safe way. El Cajon's largest park, Wells Park, has undergone many improvement projects over the past 5 years. Spring Guide to Recreation In 2016, the park gained a dog agility course, www.elcajonrec.org new shade structures and a light tower. A complete list of programs being offered as well as detailed information can be found by going online to www.elcajonrec.org and clicking "Online Registration". State and county health department's guidelines and mandates are being monitored and programs may change based on current mandates. Registration for Spring Programs Registration begins March 22 at 8:00 AM and ends 2 weeks into the class start date or when the program has reached capacity. SPRING 2021 | PAGE 19 IMPORTANT HEALTH AND SAFETY INFORMATION Guidelines for Spring Programming This symbol indicates that the City of El Cajon is still evaluating the ability to hold this program with current county and state health guidelines. The program may be returning later in the spring session or later in the year. If a program is canceled for any reason, you will receive a refund. Health Guidelines Due to COVID-19, many programs will look different than usual. Safety of our participants and staff is our number one priority. The City of El Cajon is closely monitoring state and local health guidelines and is adhering to all recommendations and requirements in order to ensure the safety of participants and staff. Please closely read all online and receipt notes when registering for a program in order to be prepared for safety practices in place. No parent or family members are allowed in the gym/facility/field. Only participants will be allowed to enter the gym/facility/field. All participants will have their temperature taken before entering the gym/facility/field. Any participants with a temperature of 100.0+ will be required to wait 10 minutes before a temperature re-check. If the participant's temperature is still 100.0+, the participant will not be permitted to attend the program until symptom free. Staff are required to wear face coverings during programs. Face coverings for child participants are encouraged, but optional. Staff will clean and sanitize all program areas and equipment. Participants with any signs of illness including symptoms that the CDC currently lists as symptoms of COVID-19 will not be permitted to attend programs. Accessibility The City of El Cajon endeavors to be in total compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Individuals who wish to participate in city recreation programs and activities and who may need accommodation, please contact the Recreation Supervisor, Michele Sawaya, at (619) 441-1670 a minimum of 2 weeks in advance of the program start date in order to process the request. SPRING 2021 | PAGE 20 REGISTRATION INFORMATION 2021 SPRING INSTRUCTIONAL CLASS SESSION DATES: APRIL 26 - JULY 3* (UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED) *NO CLASS MAY 31 Resident Discount Customers that reside in or own property within the incorporated city limits of El Cajon qualify for the Resident Fee. Proof of residency may be required. Some El Cajon mailing addresses are outside the city limits. For example, communities such as Crest, Blossom Valley and Rancho San Diego have El Cajon mailing addresses, but are outside the incorporated city limits and would not qualify for the Resident Fee. Registration Referral Slips Student registration referral slips (green slips) are issued by dance, tumbling, gymnastics and cheer instructors close to the end of the current session. Referral slips are required for any class above level 1. They are valid for the sessions indicated only and must be shown on the first day of class. Refund Policy Select your activities carefully. Customers will be charged a $5 administrative fee for each course/activity refund or transfer transaction. Requests for refunds or transfers must be directed to the activity supervisor at least 3 business days prior to the first day of an activity. No refunds or transfers will be given after an activity starts. If the registration fee was paid by check or cash, you will receive the refund by check in the mail in 6-8 weeks. These are the goals of the "Teen Coalition" facilitated by the El Cajon Parks and Recreation Department. The Teen Coalition is for teens in grades 6-12 who are city residents and/or attend city schools. Members will serve a one-year term, meeting monthly. Community partners play an active role in helping teens by providing meaningful workshops covering such topics as juvenile justice system, education, local economy and downtown development. Receive hands-on training by Recreation Staff. We welcome responsible individuals who wish to challenge themselves through a combination of training, while gaining experience and knowledge in a variety of programs by volunteering 3-5 hours per week. TEEN CERAMICS Course Description: Each week, teens will create works of art utilizing the principals of hand building (no wheel), coil art, slab art, glazing as well as acrylic painting on ceramic. Learn to sculpt and develop artistic skills. No experience necessary! Ages: 12-17 DRIVER EDUCATION Course Description: This online course is the first step for teens to fulfill the California requirement to receive a driver's license. This course is interactive and includes numerous activities, photos, animations and parental involvement. This is a self-paced internet course*. Students will receive a DMV-accepted completion certificate upon successful completion of the course. Does not include behind the wheel driving. Ages: 14-18 *Session participants will be given a course activation code via email by the first day of the session. Registration closes for this course on the first day of the session. WE ARE HIRING!
