Discussion Forum: Login Testing Facilitation of the Discussion Forums is a joint effort of CLIC and NCATS. Discussion Forums will require authentication through a secure login on a G Suite Federated Enterprise platform hosted by NCATS. An email will be sent in early November to the CTSA Program Administrators with a link and instructions to test their institutions’ login. Any new technology has technical challenges. Please help us with this testing so that we can anticipate and fix IT issues in advance of the launch of the forums. Anticipated launch date of the Discussion Forums is January 2, 2020. 7
Reminder: Serving on CTSA Program Review Panels Q: Would NCATS allow PI’s or other CTSA personnel who are not conflicted to serve on CTSA’s grant review study group? (Pod submission; NCATS’ responses in the May 2019 SC Meeting and May 2019 CTSA Program Webinar) A: NCATS analyses show: o KL2 PIs, TL1 PIs, and other CTSA Key Personnel comprise greater than 65% of the CTSA review panels o Normal recruitment rates for reviewers (accepted/invited) hover around 20% due to limitations of availability • Shared with Steering Committee that NCATS welcomes willing reviewers; names of individuals interested in serving in peer review may be conveyed to program staff 8
How to Submit Reviewer Suggestions Send the following information to your Program Official: • Name, institution, expertise; and • Person profile ID or eRA Commons ID or email Additional Information: • Suggestions will be placed in the eRA system for Review staff • Selection not guaranteed that they will be selected to serve by NCATS Scientific Review Officer due to conflicts and the suggested reviewer’s availability • Key Personnel (as listed in an application or that are identified by the NCATS Scientific Review Officer as having an NIH-defined “major professional role”) cannot serve on the panel that reviews any application in which they are named • UL1, KL2 and TL1 PIs can serve as reviewers, however, this is extremely challenging based on their conflicts and availability (see previous slide stats) • More information about NIH Conflict of Interest: https://grants.nih.gov/grants/peer/peer_coi.htm

Scientific Community Engagement • Substance use and mental health challenges have been identified as major public health concerns linked to decreased quality of life and life expectancy across America. • These challenges disproportionately affect some Indigenous communities, yet existing data reveal high rates of abstinence and recovery among Indigenous people. • Using data from NIH funded studies, this lecture will describe trajectories of early life course substance use, mental health challenges, and enduring mental health among Indigenous people in North America.

TRIP feedback 2019 • The diversity of the speakers was outstanding. • I can definitely take away many tangible items that will help in my day-to-day work and overall career planning • The content was well-thought out, very applicable, and directly useful to me as a mid- career faculty. I wish I had this when I started my position • This course was very helpful and informative. It synthesized several other similar faculty development/grantsmanship courses I have taken over the last year into a compact and informative format • The in-person networking with other veterinary faculty was amazing! It was great learning how similar some of our issues/challenges are.
TRIP follow-up • Programs scheduled for 2020, 2022, and 2024 • Success metrics: Grantsmanship Confidence Self-Assessment tool Number of attendees with federal or foundation grants within 2 years of TRIP Number of attendees on K- or R-series awards within 5 years of TRIP attendance
