SIR JOHN MONASH SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM The Sir John Monash Scholarship Program comprises five scholarships aimed at transforming the education of the most talented students in Australia to effect positive change in their lives and the lives of others. The Sir John Monash Scholarships are: • Monash Scholarship for Outstanding Achievement • Monash Scholarship for Excellence • Monash International Scholarship for Excellence • Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship for Excellence • Monash Community Leaders Scholarship. Who was Sir John Monash? Sir John Monash was a distinguished Australian leader, engineer and nation-builder. He was a gifted student, but was forced to leave university early due to financial hardship. He eventually returned to study and now has a legacy as a scholar and a man of action. I was surprised at the amount of extracurricular opportunities available to me as a scholarship holder. I was invited to apply for the Monash Minds leadership program and was accepted. I was then able to be part of a Monash delegation to Redfern in Sydney to be a mentor at the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence.
