1. Company profile Flyby is an independent Italian company, specialized in the development of Decision Support Systems (DSSs) exploiting edge technologies in the field of Remote Sensing, Signal Processing and Big Data Analytics. The company has been founded in 2001 with the aim to develop innovative solutions exploiting data analytics. Today we are operating worldwide providing our systems and services in different scenarios and market fields. The company is managed by the founder Dr. Emilio Simeone (M.S. in Physics, Ph.D. in Applied Optics) and the staff is composed by experts with M.S./Ph.D. level education and skills in Computer Science, Physics, Telecommunications, Electronics, Signal Processing Engineering and Artificial Intelligence. Flyby operates in five different business sectors (Defence, Space, Health, Maritime & Fishing, Energy) with five related Strategic Business Units (SBUs) and Controlled Corporations: FlySight, siHealth, Flyby Space, FishSat and i-EM. i-EM (Flyby 70%, Enel 30%) and FishSat (Flyby 60%, PxL 40%) are currently two joint ventures founded in 2012 and 2016 respectively. siHealth Ltd is a UK company founded in 2015 (Flyby 100%). Transversally to the five SBUs, the Research & Development Department ensures a continuous growth of the edge competences in several technological fields. 4 DEFENCE SPACE ENERGY HEALTH MARITIME FISHING
Since its foundation, the Company has been continuously involved in a wide range of R&D projects funded by the European Space Agency (ESA), the Italian Space Agency (ASI), the European Commission (EC) and by other regional agencies. These participations allowed Flyby to bring state of art technologies into the market. All the processes in the Company are managed according to UNI EN ISO9001:2008 quality standards. For the more demanding Military and Space projects Flyby applies the rules and the quality requirements set down respectively by the MIL-STD-498 and by the ECSS standards. 5 FLYBY S.r.l., via Carlo Puini 97 int. 26/27, 57128 Livorno, Italy PI (VAT): 01368800494 Tel: (+39) 0586-505016 Fax: (+39) 0586-502770 e-mail: info@flyby.it web: www.flyby.it
2. Vision The company vision is based on the new frontiers opened by many kind of devices, especially imaging systems, in providing data to be analysed, fused and elaborated according to physical modelling, artificial intelligence and machine learning methods. The aggregated knowledge becomes cognition when the system is able to solve and think on this basis, finally providing a prediction for supporting decision making. This is common to many application fields and Flyby is focusing on these cognitive processes from data to decisions, offering high-value solutions especially in Defence & Security, Healthcare and Energy sectors where big data analytics methodologies running on a basis of heterogeneous data are mainly required. Flyby’s solutions are designed to support a final decision: in Flyby we start from data and, by means of our expertise, we supply solutions in different market fields bringing a piece of future in the present. 6 Data is raw, it hasn’t meaning by itself. Information is data that acquired meaning by means of relational connections. This “meaning” could be useful or not. Knowledge is an appropriate collection of useful information. Cognition is the capability to understand the knowledge. Decision is an extrapolative, non-deterministic and non-probabilistic process. It relies on all the previous levels of situation awareness for the implementation of optimal control / actions.
