June 2020 Issue Number 526 Phone/Fax: 5688 1051 \+ 14 Main Street, Welshpool, 3966 email: rtcwelshpool@bigpond.com www.welshpool.vic.au Community benefits from Bendigo Bank Grants The Toora & Foster Community Bank Grants Program has wrapped up for 2020, and it is exciting to see funds heading out to contribute to community projects. Since opening in 1999, the Toora & Foster Bendigo Bank Branches have returned more than $1.22 Million into our community. The Grants Program received a significant number of applications from organisations seeking funding for projects. The process is administered by Community Enterprise Foundation™, the philanthropic arm of Bendigo and Adelaide Bank. Robert Liley, Chair of the Board who oversees our local Toora & Foster Bendigo Bank Branches, said, “We were amazed and encouraged by the wide collection of applications received for our 2020 Community Bank Grants Program. We are thankful to the Foundation in helping us select the successful recipients” 2020 Grant recipients: Fish Creek Scouts Group, New BBQ and lights - $2,000 Aust. Volunteer Coastguard – Welshpool, Stormy Lifejackets for skipper and crew - $4,000 Manna Gum Community House, Storage Cupboards for emergency relief supplies - $2,413 South Gippsland Hospital, Storage & drying cabinet for endoscopes - $12,500 Manna Community Garden, Garden Tools - $581 Foster Cemetery Trust, Memorial Wall - $2,500 Welshpool Recreation Reserve, New chairs and storage tree - $2,883 Friends of the Toora Swimming Pool, Tidy up of entrance including new signage - $2,200 Toora Community Action Team, Horse Holding Yards - $3,000 Foster & District Agricultural & Pastoral Society, Wood chopping event at 2021 Foster Show - $3,500 “We were very impressed with the quality of applications received, many of which may not have been financially viable without the support of our Community Bank Branch,” Rob said “With over $35,000 distributed, the successful grants encompass improvements and projects which will benefit our entire community.” The Bendigo Community Bank model is based on a 'profit-with-purpose' philosophy, which means profits are returned directly to the local community that has generated them. Importantly, the community decides where those profits are invested. The fact branches are locally owned and operated with funding returned to that particular community is a distinct point of difference to other banking institutions. There are currently more than 324 Community Bank branches across Australia that have returned over $229 Million to support local communities. Welshpool and District Playgroup set to make a return for Term 3 We are very excited to be planning our return to playgroup for Term 3! We have faced a very challenging few months recently, so getting our kids (and us parents) back out into the community for some interaction and fun filled activities is most important. We have the perfect indoor/outdoor space to use at Welshpool Kindergarten and with the help of our families, we can get back to the smooth running of our beloved Playgroup. At this present time there will be a maximum of 20 people, including children, allowed to attend each session. Follow our Facebook page to keep up to date or call/text Lisa on 0428 517 713. We are hoping to return each Monday throughout Term 3 at 9.30am and will run for approximately two hours. Please let us know if you plan on joining in on the fun! ** Due to COVID-19 please keep in mind of changes that may happen and new rules that will be set in place and please if you or a family member is unwell or showing symptoms, please refrain from attending Playgroup. We cannot wait to welcome you all back!

Quick Chicken Casserole This quick chicken casserole is so tasty and simple that it'll soon be a regular on your family menu plan. Method 1/ Preheat oven to 200 degree celsius (180 degrees celsius fan- forced) 2/ In a frypan, heat the olive oil over a medium-high heat and fry the chicken until it is slightly browned on the edges 3/ Add the stock, soup and thyme to the chicken and stir. Stir in the frozed vegetables. Bring to the boil and pour into a casserole dish. 4/ Bake the mixture in the oven for 45 minutes. 5/ Sprinkle with chopped parsley to garnish. Notes -A whole bag (1kg) of chunky frozen vegetables with an extra cup of stock works well -If you have some bacon you can fry it with the chicken ENJOY
Welshpool Golf Club The last few months have been a trying and difficult time for us all. Not just locally but everywhere. WGC, as a small Club run and maintained by a small group of volunteers has been no different. We had to shut down completely for a while and when the restrictions were eased a little we were able to get back on the course with a few changes to how we managed any competition. Tee Off times were extended to allow smaller numbers on the course at any one time and it has meant that we have been able to GET BACK TO GOLF. Unfortunately the further relaxing of restrictions has not eventuated as expected so we will continue to play to the current format. The one positive out of all this is that the course has had a good rest and with a lot of work from our volunteer ground staff the course is looking great. A bit damp at times but otherwise looking good. Because of the shutdown we are behind with our monthly medal but are working to catch up. By the end of June we will be back on track. The weather has been reasonably kind to us (if you are an eskimo) but the scores haven't always reflected this. Last wed 17/6 the ladies played a 18 hole stableford. Won by Peta Barlow on 37 pts, runner up Trish Latch, N.T.P was Peta Barlow. Fri 19/6 was our Chicken Run (9 hole) won by L.Pope on 17pts, Runner up on 16pts was B MacPherson. Sat 20ths 18 hole saw L. Pope again winner on 38pts on a countback from A. Ditta. Sun 21st (9 hole) was won by R. Knowles 21pts on another countback from A. Ditta. N.T.P. was A. Ditta and ladies 2nd shot to T Latch. As everything is changing so rapidly it is not possible to plan too far ahead. It is just a matter of planning week by week but at least we can still get out and take out our frustrations on a little ball and not each other. Stay safe and look after each other. Port Welshpool & District Maritime Museum These cut outs in wood were once displayed on shops in the Welshpool town to give some interest to the local community and travellers passing through. It was an idea of John Woolley, a very community minded resident of Port Welshpool. John got some locals involved and so these cut outs were created and proudly displayed on shops and what a step back in time to see how the town looked. In a recent clean up by John these photos were found, and it is believed these great displays were to be stored in someone’s shed for “safe keeping.‘ SO......we are asking does anyone know where they are? If you know where they may be hiding please let us know here at the Museum or notify the staff at the Welshpool Rural Transaction Centre. EASY SUDOKU HARD SUDOKU
