Cell Therapy Specialist I-III Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center Seattle, Washington, United States Job Description The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), located in Seattle, Washington, is part of a dynamic collaboration among three organizations known nationally and internationally for their patient care and research: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, University of Washington, and Seattle Children’s. Over the past 25 years, these institutions have worked together to support their mission of adult and pediatric oncology patient care services, research and education. The Cellular Therapy Lab (CTL) at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) is on the cutting edge of new technologies for cancer therapy, including cell-based immunotherapy. We are committed to advancing treatment options for our patients through the translation of innovative research into clinical practice. We collaborate with our Alliance partners (University of Washington, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and Seattle Children’s Hospital) as well as industry (biotechnology) and non-industry external entities. CTL is responsible for all minimally manipulated therapeutic cell processing occurring at the SCCA for standard therapies, clinical trials and commercial cell therapeutics. Procedures range from cryopreservation to flow cytometric enumeration of cell proportions to more complex procedures such as cell selections, including enrichment and depletion. The laboratory is regulated by the FDA cGTP/cGMP standards, maintains College of American Pathologists (CAP) certification, and is accredited by the Joint Commission and FACT. This posting is for a Cell Therapy Specialist I/II/III depending on applicable qualifications. Candidates with no previous cellular therapy experience will have hands-on training in the lab. Cellular Therapeutics (CTP) is comprised of four functional groups with responsibility for the production of clinical cellular products for patient treatment: Apheresis Unit at SCCA, Cellular Therapy Laboratory (CTL), Quality Assurance (QA), and Cellular Therapy Services (CTS). The Senior Manager, Cellular Therapeutics role is an integral part of the CTP leadership team. This position is expected to bridge departmental operations, scientific direction and administration, provide continuous connection between individual services within CTP, working in a collaborative relationship with SCCA leadership toward a shared mission and vision. The CTL is responsible for all minimally manipulated therapeutic cell processing occurring at the SCCA for both standard therapies and clinical trials including immunotherapies. Procedures range from cryopreservation and flow cytometric enumeration of cell proportions to more complex procedures such as cell selection, enrichment, and depletion for manufacture of immunotherapies. In addition, CTL stores and prepares for infusion a variety of externally manufactured cell-based therapeutics, including FDA Approved CAR T cells. The CTL is regulated by the FDA cGTP/cGMP standards, maintain College of American Pathologists (CAP) certification, and is accredited by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT). The nature of this work is challenging, and the position requires individual initiative and decision-making capabilities to carry out the required tasks. The work requires mature judgment for the development of appropriate technical, scientific and business initiatives and in recognizing circumstances requiring special attention. Flexibility in scheduling is required. Interaction with other departments and laboratories in the SCCA, Fred Hutch Clinical Research Division, UW Medical Center and external organizations/institutions is inherent to the position. Post Doctoral Researcher: Mason Lab Penn Medicine Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States Job Description The Mason lab at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a full time post-doctoral researcher for an NIH/NCI sponsored project focused on developing allogeneic CAR T cell therapies for the treatment of cancer. The overarching aim of the project is to understand the barriers to effective engraftment and survival of allogeneic CAR-T and devise strategies to enable the safe transfer and persistence of allo-CART. The successful candidate will utilize CRISPR/Cas9 editing and gene transfer technologies to generate edited CAR-T cells. In vitro and in vivo studies will be performed to assess the effectiveness of editing on persistence and function. Client owned dogs with spontaneous cancer will be recruited to a clinical trial to evaluate safety and efficacy of engineered allogeneic canine CART cells approach in the veterinary oncology clinic. The successful candidate will be a motivated and talented immunologist with a keen interest in translational research and the use of adoptive T cell therapies. They will join an expanding team that works in collaboration with colleagues and collaborators at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Medicine. Job Requirements A doctoral degree (Ph.D. or MD/Ph.D or DVM/Ph.D. or equivalent) in immunology or cellular and molecular biology is required. Relevant cellular and molecular biology skills including cell culture, genetic engineering, viral transduction, flow cytometry, and immune function analysis including cellular proliferation and cytotoxicity assays, ELISA, and ELISpot assays are required. Prior experience with cell-based therapies is desirable. The successful candidate must be fluent in English and have good scientific writing skills.
