                                Dr. Chisolm has published nearly 100 academic papers, creating a foundation and body of knowledge for
                                others to build on. She has also mentored dozens of students – training the next generation of researchers to
                                advance health care for the whole community.

                                 Michelle Heritage has extensive nonprofit and public sector experience, including more than 30 years in
PURSUE IT                        leadership roles in the homeless system, mental health, child welfare, and the alcohol and drug systems.

RELENTLESSLY.                    She is a passionate advocate for the vulnerable and those who face barriers threatening their basic needs.

                                 Michelle leads Community Shelter Board – an organization focused on rapidly placing people who are
                                 homeless in permanent housing while connecting them with employment and job training, medical care,
                                 and behavioral health care to help them remain stable. She is also a founding member of the Affordable
                                 Housing Alliance of Central Ohio, The Economic Mobility Coalition, and the Prevent Family Homelessness
                                 Collaborative. She has helped build a proactive crisis response system that is nationally respected.

                                 Throughout her career, Michelle has been guided by what she calls the “joyous debt” - the idea that you
                                 have been given things in life and have the joyous responsibility to pay that debt in service to others. She
                                 is deeply optimistic and collaborative, and she believes we, as a community, have the ability to solve the
                                 barriers faced by those living in poverty.

RECOGNITION FOR                  Mary Howard cares – she cares for her staff, her hospital, and her community. Her mother planted that
SOMETHING YOU                    seed of caregiving for Mary at a young age, showing her what it meant to give to others and extend
                                 kindness to all.
LOVE TO DO.
                                 Mary began her career as a staff nurse at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and progressed to serve in
                                 various leadership positions in a variety of patient care areas, including Women’s Health, Oncology
                                 and Rehab/Post-Acute Services and was promoted to Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer at Grant
                                 Medical Center. Prior to her current role as Executive Director, where she is responsible for operations,
                                 strategic planning and program development, Mary served East Hospital as Associate Executive Director
                                 and Chief Nursing Officer.

                                 Whether in big decision-making that impacts the health care of Central Ohioans or in small caring acts
                                 to motivate young minds and emerging professionals, Mary has been influential at The Ohio State
                                 University and throughout the greater Columbus area. She values strong relationships and has helped
                                 her hospital rebuild trust with the community where it resides. She is driven by building a healthier
                                 community where people can lead their best lives.

                                 National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., Central Ohio Chapter

I WILL CONTINUE                  Linda Kanney thrives when surrounded by diverse people and perspectives. Her 32-years working
TO BE DRIVEN.                    with YWCAs in Parkersburg, West Virginia and Columbus led her to many mentors, and Linda modeled
                                 herself after these strong leaders. Her work with YWCAs helped Linda realize her passion was in civic
                                 engagement and making a difference for Black women. She devotes her time, talent, and resources to
                                 the elimination of racism and the empowerment of women.

                                 In her current role, Linda leads the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. Central Ohio Chapter –
                                 an advocacy organization working to address racial and gender disparities for Black women and girls in
                                 the areas of health, education, and economic empowerment. Through her leadership, the Central Ohio
                                 Chapter has a seat at the table for conversations and action on pay equity, paid family and medical leave,
                                 infant and maternal health, metabolic syndrome, educational equity, criminal justice reform, and voter
                                 engagement. Since becoming a chapter in 2011, the Central Ohio Chapter has awarded over $50,000 in
                                 college scholarships to Black females and was rated A Model Chapter distinction by the NC100BW, Inc.

                                 Linda wants to create a pathway for the next generation. She looks at policies, practices and legislation
                                 that create barriers and disparities for Black women to thrive, and she finds allies and partners to help
                                 drive change. She lives her life in gratitude and is committed to using her voice to create a framework for
                                 the next generation of women leaders.

                                 Jennifer Peterson is a connector. Whether she is connecting people, ideas, or businesses, Jennifer looks
VOICES AT THE TABLE.             for opportunities to benefit others. She strongly believes that the success of an organization is not based
                                 on profit alone – businesses must be respected in the community and aligned with causes that reflect
                                 integrity and a desire to have a positive long-term impact.

                                 Jennifer plays an instrumental role in the Easton Community Foundation, a donor-advised fund at The
                                 Columbus Foundation established to support community betterment. One of the Foundation’s initiatives
                                 that is very dear to her heart is the Change for Charity meter program, which benefits six area nonprofit
                                 organizations each year. Her leadership and enthusiasm have significantly raised awareness for a
                                 multitude of causes and the resources they make available in the community.

                                 Jennifer has loved her past roles in branding and merchandising, and her role at Easton allows her to
                                 build on those skills. As the first woman in her position, Jennifer feels a responsibility to not only be
                                 successful but to mentor other women as well. She is an inclusive leader and doesn’t shy away from tough
                                 conversations as she continues to ensure her professional and personal contributions are meaningful and
                                 making a difference for others.

                                 Gayle Saunders is opening doors. Her parents taught her to not limit herself and to stand up for others. For

                                 Through her work with organizations such as CelebrateOne, Columbus Public Health, Franklin County, and
                                 others, she helps to drive change for and within communities. She connects people of color to resources
                                 and information that help improve and save lives. While Gayle has been “the first” in a number of positions
                                 over the course of her journey, she makes sure she isn’t the last.

                                 Everything Carla Williams-Scott did along her career prepared her for now, even though she didn’t know it

THE PEOPLE THAT                  Carla has a passion for working with cross-cultural groups that empower individuals to have their voices
                                 heard so that they can advocate for themselves and others. In her prior role as the Assistant Director of
YOU’RE TRYING                    Economic Development and Community Partnerships for Franklin County, she managed the Board of
TO SERVE.                        Commissioners Community Partnership Grant program, a $16M portfolio that provides support to local
                                 community-based organizations that serve county residents. In addition to the Community Partnership
                                 program, she managed the People Works Workforce Development program which assists low-income
                                 county residents to obtain full-time living-wage jobs and career pathways leading out of poverty. She is
                                 also involved in groups that promote literacy, education, and health and wellness.

                                 In her current role, Carla oversees resident-driven community revitalization plans, the Community
                                 Relations Commission, and neighborhood liaisons. She works across teams, departments, and systems to
                                 uplift residents. She tries to keep young people engaged in their community and to ensure everyone can
                                 have a voice in their community and local government. Carla works to reduce and eliminate barriers so
                                 everyone can have the chance to thrive.

                                                                                                                             Tawana L. Mims provides leadership support among all Associate Resource Group leaders

                                                                                                                             joined Encova (Motorists) Insurance in 2013. Tawana earned a Bachelor of Administration
                                                                                                                             from DeVry Institute of Technology in 1998. She currently serves as the Co-Chair for Seeds of
                                                                                                                             Caring’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion steering committee and holds leadership roles with the
                                                                                                                             Black Employee Resource Council and Huntington Bank’s Think Tank Committee. A native of
                                                                                                                             Ypsilanti, Michigan, Tawana is married with three children and lives in Pickerington, Ohio.
