Why will you be a good representative on the MRFAC? Currently retired Public Servant. Past work experience provided the skills to assess various applications for produce movement and respond accordingly. Responses provided to reporting Minister detailing procedures to be taken and actions required. I'm a keen fisherman and have been fishing since about 5 years of age. Have a keen interest in what is happening with reduced fish stocks and how the future will be structured to restore the limited fish stocks. I am passionate about recreational fishing and the long term future of fish supplies within SA, I am concerned about over fishing and wasteful practices that are currently in use within the fishing industry and freedom of access to more fishing areas, impacting recreational industry and driving the cost of seafood up, if nothing is done, my kids will not enjoy the fishing experience in the future. I have considerable experience working on committees and boards, and my working career has been in negotiation, planning and problem solving. I was also on the committee of the Kangaroo Island Marine Action Group (KIMAG) where I drafted government submissions. Yes I have been secretary of the South East branch of the recreational fishing association for three years. I am currently a councillor on Wattle Range Council, and have been for 12 years. I was an appointed member of of the Local Area Group for marine parks. Why will you be a good representative on the MRFAC? I have a comprehensive knowledge of Limestone Coast and the fishing opportunities available, including beach, rock, jetty and boat ( inshore and offshore). The fishing in the S.E. is unique in the state, and local knowledge is important . I have interaction with many fishers, amateur and professional, and provide information . Preservation of resources and adherence to regulations is vital. I liaise regularly with Fisheries officers in the area. Twelve years on local council is beneficial to decision making. I am a concerned recreational Fisher who loves both fresh and saltwater fishing. I feel that there are ways to accommodate commercial and recreational interests whilst balancing the environmental challenges. My board experience also allows me to be understanding of both sides of an argument. We need to get the balance right for all concerned, for the resources are finite and require realistic and practical management solutions developed and implemented. As outlined above I have a wealth of knowledge in working on boards and committees. Therefore I understand good governance and advocacy. Paired with this I have been fishing since i was 3 years old and am an avid-game fisherman. these days mainly fishing for Southern Blue-fin Tuna and YT Kingfish. I want to see greater collaboration between the Rec and Commercial fisherman in South Australia and work with each other to ensure sustainable fisheries. I have been a recreational fisher over 20 years, becoming more active since retiring. Most of my fishing activity is in both gulfs and offshore Victor Harbor, both land based and boat. However I also fish fresh water as opportunities arise. I have a keen interest in the health of our marine environment in order to preserve it for future generations, and fisheries management to ensure equitable use of the resource, and how this affects rural community economies. I'm a passionate recreational angler, father and husband who has been a member of the Western Districts Angling Club since 2011 and President since 2015. I believe I have the knowledge and experience to represent a wide range of SA anglers, including my club members, Australian Anglers Association members and general public. If elected, I would advocate for a positive change in recreational fishing management, so that future generations, including my daughters, can continue to enjoy fishing in South Australia. My extensive involvement in lobbying for a common sense approach to fishing has meant that I have credibility in the community. It will be critical to listen to a wide range of views and to present in simple terms, strategies that will ensure the continuation of sustainable fishing in SA. I have prepared and made presentations to PIRSA members and a number of Parliamentary members and fishing committees over a number of years. I have spoken to and showed examples of my concerns to the following: Medhi Douroudi (twice), Recfish committee, Robert Brokenshire, Michael Pengilly (twice), Denis Hood, Natural Resources committee, Marine Parks Committee, Rebekha Sharkie.
