Achievements 13 Teachers Passed Cambridge Professional Development Qualifications with Flying Colours! by Ms Christy ‘Ancora Imparo,’ a Latin phrase which means ‘I am still learning’ embodies the commendable lifelong learning passion of the thirteen Bukit Sion teachers from Red and Blue Campuses who undertook a rigid 4-month-long Cambridge International Certification in Teaching and Learning last year. They were led by Mr Wendy Hartono, as the Programme Leader, and their mentors in discussing, researching, collaborating and implementing effective teaching strategies to produce high-quality teaching and learning in the classroom. The teachers who joined the programme were pushed out of their comfort zone to try new active learning strategies in their own classroom. They also reflected on their training and received feedback from their mentors and peers in order to improve it for next wave of teacher trainees. The results were very rewarding as they made learning more enjoyable and effectual for both the learners and teachers. Praise the Lord! Their hard work paid off when they were informed that they passed with flying colours. Out of thirteen candidates, eleven received ‘Distinction’ (high pass) and two received ‘Pass’. Far from being the end of their learning journey, this is the beginning of their life- long journeys of becoming more effective teachers. We might have started with only thirteen teachers, but the knowledge and skills earned will not end with them. As Michel Eyquem de Montaigne, a prominent French philosopher during the Renaissance said, “It is good to rub, and polish our brain against that of others.” 07 Bukit Sion Bulletin

Well, whatever, one simply cannot deny the fact that humans too take part in damaging our Earth in many ways. Hence, Go Green has become Year 6 theme for this 2020 Charity Bazaar. On 27 and 28 February 2020, all Year 6 students opened shops with Earth-related names at Bukit Sion Basketball Field. Frankly, we cannot deny that doing go-green efforts is troublesome in a lot of ways: carrying own shopping bags; bringing and cleaning metal straws, containers and tumblers; keeping trash on a walk and separating waste; using public transportation and many more. Well, one thing that helps ease things up is to think that Earth is ‘us’ and we only have one planet to live on in the meantime. We all ought to move to the same beats: humans, animals, plants and our Mother Earth. We believe that we also bear the capability to mend what is broken and restore what is lost. Simple things done by many will surely mean something at some point as change starts from us. Let us all care for our Earth! 09 Bukit Sion Bulletin
Activities Chinese New Year is all about sharing and caring by Ms Bina Woe The Lunar New Year that fell on the 25 January this year was celebrated in our Preschool on 24 January to enhance our diverse learning environment. The traditional Chinese clothing, “cheong sam”, is an outstanding outfit to celebrate this Spring Festival. Students, along with their teachers, put on their awesome cheong sam and some colorful outfits on that day to brighten up our mini town where the celebration was held. Our preschoolers were introduced to some Chinese cultures and had the opportunity to understand some interesting facts about Chinese New Year. They were introduced to the traditions and food that are typically served during this festive season as well. One of the most exciting parts of the celebration that amused our preschoolers was the puppet show played by teachers. In the puppet show, we had inserted the true meaning of Chinese New Year which is to Walk as Children of Light (Ephesians 5:8) by our words, actions and thoughts.......to speak nice words, share and care. Lion dance, another tradition introduced that day, also took part during the celebration. We were all overjoyed by the end of the celebration. Not only did students bring home the fun and knowledge about Chinese tradition, they were also reminded of the value of being children of light in all occasions. The prime area of learning in this celebration is not merely about knowledge but also character. May the Lord continue to bless all our students as they flourish and all our passionate educators in the journey of educating the students. January - March 2020 10
