POWER ON POWERHOUSE ISSUE 06 POWER ON POWERHOUSE ISSUE 06 POWER ON 51m The iconic 51m tall chimneys have been re-built from scratch using original building methods 375 litres of paint were used per chimney - 1,500 litres in all C onstruction work on the Power Station, Phase 2, continues at a rapid pace, and is on programme. With the new chimneys complete, the Power Station looks whole again and work is progressing rapidly in the boiler house and turbine halls. Given the important role of the chimneys in the regeneration of the masterplan site and the Power Station, we have been working very closely with the London Borough of Wandsworth’s Planning and Conservation officers and Historic England throughout the chimney rebuilding process. Over 6,000 wheelbarrow-loads of concrete were used in the reconstruction of each chimney, using a system that replicated the original construction method while incorporating more modern steel reinforcement. POWERHOUSE ISSUE 06 OFFICE SPACE POWERHOUSE ISSUE 06 OFFICE SPACE In PROGRESS OFFICE Alongside the 500,000 sq ft of the office space in the Grade II* listed Power Station which was pre-let to Apple last September, the team at Battersea Power Station is excited to announce that an additional 40,000 sq ft of office space has been made available in the centre of the iconic building. Before Battersea Power Station was decommissioned, this space was the engine room and consequently played a key part in the running of the Power Station. Designed by WilkinsonEyre, the space will be set over SPACE two floors overlooking the light filled central atrium and will accommodate an extra 500 or so workers. Workers will be sharing the space in the building with a wide variety of retailers, restaurants as well as residents.
