15 ART & SOUL OPEN ONLINE AND IN STORE LETTER FROM THE EDITORS The clocks have gone back, the nights drawing in and we're starting to look forward to the festive season. This year things will be a little different than usual and we will all have to think in a different way to get the most out of the festive season. Whilst the Westwood Lions will not be hosting the firework display, we may decide to have our 5 roses expand 9 BEVERLEY CIVIC SOCIETY own small party in the garden and enjoy our own selection of fireworks or watch neighbours' displays instead. I look forward to the lights going on around Beverley. This year we may want to decorate our own houses with lights to help cheer people up, and perhaps compliment people on their own lighting displays. Of course whilst no official switch on's are happening, we can still enjoy the lights and donate to our local charities who work hard and need all our help. As we run up towards the end of 2020, think festive, smile, and look to cheer people up. We all 10 EAST RIDING COLLEGE 11 HUBY'S RECRUITING need it. Stay safe and think of others during these difficult times. Julian. Happy November readers! Now that Christmas is only one month away, I find it slightly more socially acceptable to indulge in festive spirit. For me, I do that by donning thick, cosy socks, snuggling up under a blanket with a hot chocolate and watching cheesy Christmas rom-coms on the 13 JP LOCKSMITHS 23 DOG AGILITY Hallmark channel. Christmas songs and carols can wait until December 1st though! But while I can’t wait to spend all weekends for the next 2 months this way, I’m also trying to find new ways to keep motivated and active when the days seem shorter. The dark nights and cold weather will never drive me to a treadmill, but I’m finding brisk late evening strolls enjoyable at the moment - that is unless it’s raining, and you can instead find me in the scenario above under a blanket! However you decide to spend it, remember to stay safe, and I hope you have a great month. Enjoy the Contributors: issue. Olivia. Over a couple of years it went through a few iterations until we asked ourselves ‘what happens if you fill it with marshmallows and drop it in hot milk’? The results were magical. We made a little video, posted it on social media, and didn’t think much of it until the orders started coming through. And didn’t stop. Over a weekend our video went viral, receiving over 300K views and being shared far and wide. We received enquiries from America and Canada all the way to Australia, and sold far more than warm up in our we can make in a sensible time. What made this such a popular product, we believe, is the way we managed to capture the excitement of hot chocolate with an experience that can be re-lived over and over again, packaged once again with our unique humorous take on chocolate. It’s the look; we go to extra effort to make it look like a bomb with a strawberry lace for the fuse Perfect for Christmas and the word “boom” piped on as a little nod to what’s about to happen. It’s the anticipation; the way it takes time for the thick shell of chocolate to melt in the hot milk before the “explosion” happens. It’s the satisfaction when the bomb finally breaks and all the marshmallows come floating to the surface. And finally, it’s the happiness when you stir and enjoy and realise it wasn’t just a show, but a premium and delicious hot chocolate made by a small artisan chocolatier. To go one step further we have now had a mug specially designed to sell as a combined gift-pack this Christmas, hopefully capitalising on our success earlier this year to give us the busy season we need this winter. Next on the horizon, that we hope will continue us on our road to success is our brand new Advent Calendar. Again, we have tried to make this product for several years, at first providing small Christmas themed chocolates for you to make your own calendar, moving over to off-the-shelf advent calendars which we customise and fill with our own treats. But we have never been happy with the end result, and this drove us to innovate our own calendar from the ground up, basing it on our largest box of chocolates at 25 pieces. We have had our design brought to life by a professional Yorkshire based illustrator, had our completely recyclable sleeve & perforated card windows locally made and printed in Hull, and filled it with the best White Rabbit chocolates that are so popular in the artisan chocolate world. With this, we hope to recreate that same excitement, anticipation and satisfaction Tel: 01482 679325 that made our bombs such a commercial success! Huby’s expanding and recruiting in Beverley Following a successful year in business, Huby Domestic Appliances is expanding and looking to recruit 2 Service Engineers. Hubys, based in Beckview Road in Beverley, has been established for 45 years having originally been set up by Brian Huby before his son Jason took it over and built it into the successful organisation that it is today. In September 2020, Huby Domestic Appliances was acquired by local private investor Steve Rooms. Specialising in the repair and installation of dishwashers, washing machines, ovens, fridges, freezers and gas cookers the company employs an experienced and dedicated team of 9, including 6 engineers. 5 of the team have been with the business for over 17 years, which shows a real commitment and loyalty. New owner, Steve, who lives in Sigglesthorne and has invested in other businesses in the region, is delighted with his latest acquisition. He said: “Hubys is a fantastic, profitable business that enjoys an enviable reputation for reliability and quality of service in the region. “This is all credit to the way that Jason has run the company over the last 35 years, supported by a dedicated team. My aim now is to build on what I have acquired and extend our reach further into other regions of the UK, capitalising on the growing demand for our services.” This is an exciting time for Hubys, who have recently won a new contract to supply repair services for Samsung in the Yorkshire area. This is in addition to increasing demands from existing clients, and so much so that the business now needs to expand the business and recruit 2 additional Service Engineers to join the loyal team. If you are an experienced Service Engineer and would like to know how you can become part of the Huby team, contact Steve in the first instance on 01482 866660.
