REGION CORDOBA “At the heart of the country” Located in the center of the country, this is one of the major economic areas of Argentina. Its capital city, also called Córdoba, is the second most populous city in the country, a leading culture and services cosmopolitan centre, in an area characterized by its natural scenery, an interesting colonial past, and an important tourist infrastructure. Córdoba preserves cave paintings by the natives as well as historical relics from the colonial era, sorrounded by a beatiful landscape of valleys, high planes, ravines, hills, and more. The chapels and the Jesuit Estates were built during the XVIIth and XVIIIth centuries, when the Jesuit religious Order Compañia de Jesús was established during Spanish colonial times and worked with native people. Apart from the religious infrastructure established for the evangelization of the natives, the Jesuits built and directed important leading academic institutions all over the country. To support their activities, they had five Estancias in the province that worked as farming establishments with everything needed for self-sufficiency: Estancia Caroya, Jesús María, Santa Catalina, La Candelaria and Alta Gracia. The circuit of the Jesuit Estancias of Córdoba is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001. REGION CUYO “Land of Wines” This is the mayor wine-producing region in South America, set in a land of colossal mountains, bare vegetation and desert climate. The Wine Road is one of the major attractions where you can tour the different wineries, enjoy wine tasting sessions, play Golf, lodge in modern facilities, relax with the benefits of a Wine Spa, and even carry out all kinds of events in the wineries. To the west, the Andes Mountain Chain reaches 7,000 meters (22,965 ft) at Cerro Aconcagua, the highest in The Americas, mecca for worldwide climbers and winter sportsmen. The region is also known for its ski resorts, therapeutic hot springs, turbulent rivers for rafting and fishing, and as an ideal area for hiking, horseback riding, and discover a geological basin of more than 70 million years that sprang from the depths of the earth in the Triassic period when the Andes were formed. REGION LITORAL “Lush Nature” This region highlights for its natural attractions such as waterfalls, rivers, lakes and streams, surrounding the majestic subtropical rainforest, the perfect complement for business trips. The Iguazú Waterfalls were declared one of the New 7 Natural Wonders of the World thanks to its almost 300 waterfalls up to 80 meters (262 feet) high, and a system of walkways leading visitors deep into nature. The ruins of the Jesuit Missions are another must, showing the work the Spanish religious Order Compañía de Jesús did with the native people of the region, the Guaraníes. They have been declared UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The region also hosts the Impenetrable Chaqueño reserving nature in its purest form, ideal for eco-tourism activities. One of the most important adventure tourism circuits of Argentina is the Esteros del Iberá, the second largest wetland in South America. Along the banks of one of the most important rivers in the region, Río Paraná, the port cities of Santa Fe de la Vera Cruz and Rosario are located, both a harmonious combination of natural and urban elements. REGION NORTE “Land of Traditions” Landscapes of mountains, ravines, valleys, salt desserts and hot springs preserve the most traditional region of Argentina, that combines ancient past of native people with the colonial Spanish heritage. Visiting this region is possible to discover pre-Columbian ruins of the various communities that inhabited the region with the imprint left by the Incas from Perú, and unique national parks The variety of landscapes ranging from snowy peaks and volcanoes over 6,000 meters (19,685 feet) high; Quebrada de Humahuaca, UNESCO World Heritage Site; and the imposing Cerro de los Siete Colores, crossing along Tolar Grande salt dessert. REGION PATAGONIA “Magical Region” This dreamlike region offers magnificent scenery both in winter and summer. Mountains, glaciers, forests, lakes, beaches, cliffs, and a flora and fauna variety are some of the attractions of Patagonia. There are many Natural Reserves along the Patagonian coast to protect marine species, but none of them has the incredible concentration of animals from Antarctica like Península Valdés with birds, colonies of sea lions, elephant seals, penguins and whales, among others. Towards The Andes, Los Glaciares National Park is one of the most important attractions of the country, declared a UNESCO Natural Heritage Site with almost 350 glaciers of matchless beauty. It is also possible to visit fossils exhibitions of the world’s largest dinosaurs found in the area. The main findings are the remains of Giganotosaurus Carolinii, discovered in 1993, considered the largest carnivore of all times so far.
