has 112 members representing the most
diverse economic sectors. The members are
                                     strategic partners who actively contribute
to building the agendas and activities of each
thematic program. In the first half of 2021,
Altera, the Embassy of Korea, Embraer and
                                     Suzano became members of CEBRI.

CEBRI’s first online course is one of
the main highlights of this period. The
                                     public’s engagement exceeded our highest
                                     expectations, showing the course’s relevance
and its appeal to society, especially young
people, regarding the role of Brazilian
international and diplomatic relations. We had
nearly 1,600 registrants from 27 countries
and practically every Brazilian state, and half

INTRODUCTION 5

The initiative also allowed CEBRI to exercise its social responsibility. About
60% of the participants, among students, women and representatives of
civil society, received partial or full scholarships. In addition, in order to
support families affected by the pandemic in the state of Rio de Janeiro,
10% of the course’s revenue was donated to Movimento União Rio (Rio
Union Movement) for the purchase of 500 staple food baskets.

Initiatives such as the Energy Transition Program, a partnership between
CEBRI, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Energy
Research Office (EPE), and the course on the history of Brazilian diplomacy,
among others, have gained wide visibility in the press and on social media.
As a result, CEBRI was directly mentioned more than 400 times in Brazil´s
main media and news outlets, and it now has more than 50,000 followers
on social networks.

These achievements were only possible with the support of our members,
the outstanding presence and leadership of our Trustees and Senior
Fellows, and the unity and commitment of our team.

What is the Future of Multilateralism?
For the past two years, CEBRI and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation
(KAS) have been developing a program on multilateralism. In 2021, the
project “Global Political and Economic Realignments: Implications for
Brazil” presents four focus areas: 1) Global realignments and foreign policy
formulation: national and regional spaces and global insertion; 2) Trade and
transformations in the international political economy; 3) Technological
innovation and sustainable growth; 4) Crises of the Anthropocene, global
health and building consensus for multilateral policies.

International security strategies in a new geopolitical world order will be
on the agenda at the XVIII Forte de Copacabana International Security
Conference to be held September 16 and 17.

The theme that will be addressed at the largest international security conference in
Latin America poses an important question: “Does no war mean peace? The discussions
will revolve around three central issues: Global risk management and the role of the
Armed Forces; Multilateralism and the role of transnational security alliances; and
     Cyber responses to crisis situations.

Since 2004, CEBRI has been organizing the conference in partnership with the
Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS) and the Delegation of the European Union to
Brazil (EUDEL). Due to the pandemic, the 2021 edition will be held online with guests
participating virtually, in a unique format that will allow interaction with the audience.

In the first half of 2021, CEBRI further expanded its institutional visibility. On social media, it
grew in reach and engagement, surpassing the 50,000-follower mark. The launch of the section
with international relations news is a highlight among the new features on social media. We also
put efforts toward building a more structured relationship with the press. As a result, news on
CEBRI’s initiatives such as the Energy Transition Program and the History of Brazilian Diplomacy
course occupied quality spaces in the main Brazilian media outlets.
