aaron halliday Singer/Songwriter Aaron Halliday is a Canadian country music singer/songwriter who lives in Kelowna, BC. Aaron has more than 20 years of playing behind him, with a wide open road ahead. Many years ago, Halliday received the surreal combination of a sweet compliment and serious kick in the butt when, while busking on Rideau in Ottawa, none other than Canadian legend Stompin’ Tom Connors dropped a $20 in his case and told him he was too good to be doing things this way and it was time to get off the street. Halliday took that, and the strong influences of both Merle Haggard and Alan Jackson, and determined to take the whole thing a whole lot more seriously. The influence of, along with a striking resemblance to, Alan Jackson has led to a 25+ year stint as an Alan Jackson tribute artist. Most recently, though, Halliday is coming into his own as a writer and solo artist of his own making in a style that he calls Dirt Country with a Roots and Traditional feel. Pre-Covid, Halliday was doing an astonishing 150 shows a year across Canada. He, and his aaronhallidaymusic.com wife Sharyn, are constantly working to book and www.facebook.com/aaron.halliday.5030 rebook shows and tours and have earned the kind of respect the leads to repeat bookings and Twitter @aaronhallidaymu appreciation for what they do. [CARLA CHERRIE HENDRIKS MUSIC] 2021 Biography Carla Cherrie Hendriks, 27, was born in Norfolk, and she now resides in London. Growing up, her eyes were drawn towards the subgenres which spawned from Punk, including the avant garde visuals of the New Romantic scene. Harnessing the Punk spirit of recycling, and creating something new, this is what Carla aims to do with her music. Elements of the melancholy sit in her lyrics, fused with a blast of pop filled hope, and a retro synth after bite. A musical partnership of the past, fused with the present, birthed Carla’s heartfelt debut single ‘Astral Travel’ released on 31.10.20, and following on from this, Carla released her second single ‘Twisted’ on 12.02.21 Both songs were produced by her father Phil Hendriks. Why Mike Bloomfield and Paul Butterfield Matter by James Walsh Whether it was Mike Bloomfield playing on the Bob Dylan song Highway 61 or playing a music workshop there is no doubt that Paul Butterfield’s harmonica playing during their performance at the Newport Folk Fest knocked people’s socks off. Helena Mace Singer/Songwriter and Radio Presenter at Radiodowntown.ca CHASING DREAMS BY HELENA MACE Last month I wrote about my first self penned sites and physical copies are available on album, Wash away the years and this month’s article www.helenamace.com. is about the follow up, Chasing Dreams. In next months article, I will tell you the story of After writing, Wash away the years and getting such Unbroken, an album very close to my heart. a good response to it, I was eager to write more. In www.helenamace.com fact, the first hit from Chasing Dreams had already www.hangoverhill.co.uk been written. I had been full of ideas and the first song I wanted to release was a typical country break www.feastoffiddles.co.uk up song with the title, Breakin’ up aint easy. Please check out my website I had got back in the studio with my producer, www.helenamace.com Matt Black at Hangover Hill recording studio and recorded this which combined with Matt on keys and Si Genaro on Harmonica, made this a great commercial country track which even now, is still receiving airplay a few years later. I released this as a single first and it was my first chart hit, scraping a Top 40 in the UK country singles charts. I had the writing bug by this point and soon country, folk style tunes were pouring out of me and tracks such as Strangers, Rescue me and Fallen were born as well as many others. After we had recorded the entire album, a great decision was made to add the multi instrumentalist, Tom Leary, on the album. Tom had toured with bands such as Lindisfarne, Fairport Convention and Joe Brown and was an incredible addition to the album, adding Fiddle and Steel to my songs, creating a piece of art that took Chasing Dreams to a whole other level. This album was released in 2018 and really got my name out there. It received amazing accolades and was up for several awards and the airplay it had and still has, is just fantastic and still overwhelming. It was a finalist in Album of the year and got me nominated for awards as an artist in my own right. I did an album launch show after its release and had a sold out show in a local theatre which was one of the most amazing experiences I had had so far in my music journey. Chasing Dreams is available on all download 11
