Meet Our Classic Curator Wilma Smith Wilma Smith has curated this year’s Classic Music program at Beleura. She is Second Violinist of the Flinders Quartet, curator/violinist/violist of Wilma & Friends, Musica Viva’s Artistic Director of Competitions, a regular player with the Australian World Orchestra and a committed teacher. "I wanted to find a way to link great composers of the past with local composers of our own time. Amongst my own musical colleagues, I thought of some clever performer/composers whose dual careers mirror those of their historically distant peers in a city such as Vienna. I wanted to feature the brilliant performers in Melbourne who are also acclaimed composers, so I’ve selected three of them, Ian Munro, Benjamin Martin and Joe Chindamo who are all well-known and established, and three emerging female composers from Melbourne. That mix of the familiar and new gives these four programs an appealing balance of styles and introduces listeners to the wealth of creativity on our doorstep." Wilma Smith Photo by Pia Johnson 19
