Inductees, Fellows, Family, Friends, and Colleagues, On behalf of the Fellow’s Executive Committee, it is my honor to welcome you to the Fellows of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. It is our honor to recognize and welcome those Nurse Practitioners who have demonstrated their Welcome from Chair. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1 expertise in two of the following areas: clinical practice, research, education, and health policy. Becoming a Fellow reflects a significant personal accomplishment as well as individual contributions to our profession and the nation’s health. 2019 – 2020 FAANP Leadership . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2 The Fellow’s designation also comes with a commitment to support the mission, values, and goals of AANP as well as to advance the role of the nurse practitioner through leadership and participation in Fellow’s initiatives. History of FAANP . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3 These last few months have been difficult for our nation, our patients, and especially our colleagues who are on the front lines, serving the communities they work in with extraordinary dedication and courage. We are sad that we have to forgo our normal Induction Ceremony this year, but we will be honoring all our new Fellows as well as our Honorary Fellows, the Loretta Ford awardee, and our Legacy awardees at the AANP National Conference 2020 Legacy Award Recipients . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4 in June, 2021. Normally the Induction Ceremony serves as the official date of induction for our new Fellows but this year, in lieu of the ceremony, all new Fellows will be considered inducted as of June 25th, 2020. After this date, you may use the credentials FAANP. 2020 Loretta C. Ford Awardee . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 5 We also recognize other health professionals who have supported and contributed to the role of the NP. Our 2020 Honorary Fellows are Catherine J. Rick, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN and Barbara Stilwell, PHD, RN, FRCN. Ms. Rick served as the Chief Nursing Officer for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and Senior Advisor for Leadership with Jonas Center for Nursing and Veteran Healthcare. Dr. Stilwell has held various high-level positions with the 2020 Honorary Fellow Inductees . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 6 World Health Organization (WHO), co-authoring the WHO’s 2006 Health Report and is currently the Executive Director of Nursing Now. The 2020 Loretta Ford Award is awarded to Dr. Madrean Schober, PhD, MSN, ANP, FAANP. Dr Schober is President of Schober Global Healthcare 2020 New Fellow Inductees . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 7 Consulting, where she provides consultancies to governments, academic institutions and healthcare clients. As the 1999-2000 Virginia Henderson Fellow for the International Council of Nurses (ICN) in Geneva, Switzerland, the 1994-2014 International Relations Liaison for AANP, Dr. Schober’s 2020 FAANP Members List . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 32 most outstanding contributions to the NP movement have been in the area of international networking. As a leader in the development of the ICN International Network for APNs and NPs, she works to promote a visible presence of advanced nurses globally. This year, the Fellows Executive Committee, in conjunction with the Past Chair’s Council, created a new award to honor, recognize, and memorialize a member of FAANP whose lifelong career has had a profound and enduring impact on the profession and the NP role, articulating a dream that others share and follow. The vision, innovation, courage, persistence, and inspiration of the honoree are essential components of the legacy. The 2020 FAANP Legacy Awardees are Dr. Loretta C. Ford, Dr. Delia O’Hara and Dr. Jan Towers. Loretta C. Ford, EdD, RN, PNP, NP-C, CRNP, FAAN, FAANP, co-founded the first Nurse Practitioner program in the country at the University of Colorado and has been an active champion and challenger for the NP movement in areas of practice, education and research. Dr. Ford, an inaugural member of the FAANP and inductee of both the National Women’s Hall of Fame and the Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame, is commonly referred to as the “mother” of the NP movement. Delia O’Hara, CNP, JD, FAANP was instrumental on various legal issues that expanded practice authority for nurse practitioners, such as the Nurse Practice Act for the District of Columbia and the Pharmacy Act. Dr. O’Hara, an inaugural member of the FAANP, served many years on the Board of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and was influential in the development of the Academy’s Foundation. Jan Towers, PHD, NP-C, CRNP, FAAN, FAANP is the Senior Policy Advisor for AANP and has served as a health policy and curriculum consultant for multiple government and private educational programs and agencies, such as the National Advisory Committee for Primary Care Initiatives grants. Dr. Towers is an inaugural member of the FAANP and founding editor of the Journal of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. 2020 Legacy Award 2020 Loretta C. Ford Award Loretta C. Ford, EdD, RN, PNP, NP-C, CRNP, FAAN, FAANP Madrean Schober, PhD, MSN, ANP, FAANP Dr. Loretta C. Ford, fondly named the “mother” of the NP movement, as she co-founded the first Dr. Madrean Schober is president of Schober Global Healthcare Consulting, where she provides NP program at the University of Colorado. Dr. Schober was the Region 5 director of the AANP Board of Directors and has been actively involved in lobbying for legislative rules and regulations defining state NP practice, advocating for and developing a coalition for NPs in Indiana. Delia O’Hara, CNP, JD, FAANP Dr. Delia O’Hara helped to draft and lobbied to pass the Nurse Practice Act for the District As the 1999 – 2000 Virginia Henderson Fellow for the International Council of Nurses of Columbia, which defined NP, nurse midwives and nurse anesthetists as advance practice (ICN) in Geneva, Switzerland; and the 1994 – 2014 international relations liaison for AANP, nurses with expanded practice authority. Jan Towers, PHD, NP-C, CRNP, FAAN, FAANP Dr. Jan Towers is the senior policy advisor for the American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP) and has been active in health policy at the national level for many years, working on behalf of NPs and their patients to facilitate appropriate utilization and support for NP practice. She has held several faculty positions where she developed and directed family nurse practitioner programs and has served as a health policy and curriculum consultant for multiple government and private educational programs and agencies. Dr. Towers, an inaugural member of the FAANP, has authored numerous publications, was the founding editor of the Journal of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and one of the founders of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. 6 7
2020 Honorary Fellows 2020 New Fellows Catherine J. Rick, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN, FAANP(H) Kristi A. He has been influential in expanding clinical practice for NPs and influencing advanced practice internationally.
