2019 Queenstown AUG/SEPT 2019 Annual Conference Our annual conference and AGM have now been and gone for another year and we have already started our initial planning for next year. This year we had over 100 attendees. Our conference is the one time of the year when all members can get together and the opportunity to share experiences and network with other members is invaluable. Our guest presenters without exception made the conference hum from start to finish. Who can forget the opening presentation by Cam Kalkoen. What a story! Of all the comments I received from members and sponsors, the one that was unanimous was an appreciation of the relevance, quality and professionalism of the speakers. Most of the presentations are now listed on our website and you will find them under the section “Events, Annual Conference, 2019 Presentations.” Thanks again to Frances and Metalcraft for sponsoring the Welcome dinner night. This year we chose to have dinner at the Skyline Gondola. What a fantastic night and those views! On the gala dinner evening we were entertained by Andre King. What a night it was. Andre had us all in fits of laughter. Nobody was leaving the room and with the great food and wine plus the excellent service from the hotel – it was a night to remember! Continued from page 1 Sir Richard Hadlee, our final guest speaker arrived early and was able to join us for the evening. What a privilege for us to be joined by one of the greatest cricketers of all time. Sir Richard also joined in and very kindly donated a special souvenir bat very gratefully accepted by John Lunn. Thanks Suyash and Eurotec for your very generous sponsorship. It was also to be a night of gifts and prizes – Badger Australia started with a $50 gift card won by Andrew Buckingham from Emergent Cold. Craig Apps hopped onto the stage and announced that he had 3 All Black jerseys signed by Brodie Retalick to be drawn. The three very lucky winners were… Mark Exton, Nada Ferroda and Bruce Atkinson. The golfers also had a day of it and the weather and magnificent scenery didn’t disappoint. Anton Van Rhyn and Nathan Harrison were the two winners on the day and the first prize bottle of a bottle of whisky seemed to be a popular prize. Roger Bremner from Americold won the prize for the most beers drunk.. Our ten pin bowling competition always generates a bit of interest amongst the players. Once the bowling starts you can see the players with the best scores keeping an eye on each other. Our three top winners in order were Mike Wilson – Coolpak (174), Euan Jones – Dexion (135) and Glen Lash – Assa Abloy (123). From the 22 players we had 12 scores in excess of 100. From all accounts this is a particularly high ratio. Achieving 100 points doesn’t come easy! Murray Williams from Pensa Doors again sponsored the ever popular beer tasting session put on by Alpine Brewing. I know that the members who chose this activity had a great time. Continued from page 2 After dinner at The Skyline a few of us had a night cap in the hotel bar. Unbeknown to us Steve Adams was staying at the hotel and boy did the girls jump up quick for a selfie. Our many thanks go out to our generous sponsors who really got behind the conference with special offers for members. All members staying at the hotel received a special umbrella compliments of Crown. Last year it was a special blanket. Now we have a blanket to keep us warm and an umbrella to keep us dry! Thanks Kieran…your team are always an important part of our conference and very much appreciated. Our sponsors and exhibitors filled every single space available. Every possible space was taken. This year we had a special exhibitors prize which was drawn just before the closing presentation by Sir Richard Hadlee. The first prize won by John Lunn from Sealord was a $1500 Flight Centre travel voucher – certainly worth winning and, the second prize of an Alcohol Breathalyser donated by DrugWise was won by Reuben Tarran from Technicool.
