Section 5: Post Season Format

1. Teams must have played at least 90% of conferences games to qualify.

2. Regular-season order of finish shall be determined by the greatest number of conference victories in
descending order.

3. For conference purposes, teams that tie for the regular-season title will be declared co-champions.
The highest-seeded team will be declared the regular-season champion for NAIA National Tournament
bid purposes only.

4. In the event of a tie, the following methods shall be used to break the tie and in the following order:

TWO-TEAM TIE-BREAKING PROCEDURE

The following procedures (1-4), in the following order, will be used to break a tie between two teams:

        1. Head-to-head competition in regular-season conference games between the two teams.

        2. Each team's number of wins versus the team occupying the highest position in the final CCAC
regular-season standings continuing down through the standings until one team gains an
        advantage.

NAIA CCAC Sports Bylaws 2019-2020 8|Page
a. When arriving at another pair of tied teams while comparing records, use each team's
number of victories against the collective tied teams as a group (prior to their own tie-
breaking procedures) rather than the performance against the individual tied teams.

Exception: When arriving at another pair of tied teams, if the tiebreaker between those teams
has already been broken earlier in the seeding process, which goes from top to bottom, the
number of victories against the highest seed is employed first.

        3. A one-game playoff played to determine the No. 1 seed for the conference tournament and
the conference’s first NAIA National Tournament automatic qualifier. For all other ties, a coin
        flip will break the tie.

                        a. The home team will be determined by a flip of the coin.

                        b. The site will be determined by the conference office in consultation
                                with the participating schools.

                        c. If one team cannot play, the other team will be declared the winner.

THREE-OR-MORE TEAM TIE

Following the breaking of a tie of three-or-more teams, once the tie is broken the tiebreaking procedure
listed for either a two- or three-or more team tie starts over with the procedure used based on the tied
teams remaining after the initial multi-team tie is broken.

The following procedures, in the following order, will be used to break ties between three-or-more
teams:

        1. Head-to-head competition in regular-season conference games between the two teams.

        2. If two-or-more teams are still tied, then each tied team's number of wins shall be compared
to the team occupying the highest position in the final regular-season standings continuing
down through the standings until one team gains an advantage.

                a. When arriving at another pair of tied teams while comparing records, use each team's
number of wins against the collective tied teams as a group (prior to their own tie-
breaking procedures) rather than the performance against the individual tied teams.

Exception: When arriving at another pair of tied teams, if the tiebreaker between those
teams has already been broken earlier in the seeding process, which goes from top to
bottom, the record against the highest seed is employed first.

        3. A one-game playoff played to determine the No. 1 seed for the conference tournament and
the conference’s first NAIA National Tournament automatic qualifier. For all other ties, a coin
        flip will break the tie.

                        a. The home team will be determined by a flip of the coin.

NAIA CCAC Sports Bylaws 2019-2020 9|Page
b. The site will be determined by the conference office in consultation
                                with the participating schools.

                        c. If one team cannot play, the other team will be declared the winner.

NAIA Postseason Qualification –
1st Place regular-season finisher and CCAC Tournament Champion advance to the NAIA Opening Round.
If the regular-season champion is also the tournament champion, the team finishing 2nd in the
tournament will also advance to the NAIA Opening Round.

Conference Tournament

1. The conference tournament guidelines are governed by the NAIA Baseball Coaches Manual section
on Postseason Competition.

2. The tournament expenses will be shared equally by the teams participating.
4. A three-man rules/discipline committee will be put in place to help administer the tournament. The
committee will consist of the conference sports chair, athletic director liaison to the sport and the
umpire assignor.

5. The CCAC conference tournament will be an eight-team double-elimination tournament using the
format in the NAIA Baseball Coaches Manual.

6. Home team determination, 10-run rule and suspended games are covered in the NAIA Baseball

first-round games.

8. Coaches are responsible for having a copy of their postseason roster form (Appendix H) with them at
the conference tournament games.

9. If conditions prevent the conference tournament from being played, the top two teams in the
conference will advance to the NAIA Opening Round.

10. If conditions prevent the CCAC tournament from being completed, the highest remaining seed in the
winner’s bracket advances. If the highest remaining seed in the winner's bracket is the conference
regular-season champion, then the second-highest seed in the winner's bracket advances. If the #1 seed
is the only team remaining in the winner’s bracket, the highest remaining seed in the loser’s bracket
would advance. In all other cases, the NAIA Coaches’ Manual should be used as a reference.

11. The conference tournament must be completed by May 10, 2018.

                                              Tie-Breakers

TWO-TEAM TIE

Two teams are considered to be tied when owning an identical conference record.

The following procedures (1-4), in the following order, will be used to break a tie between two teams:
        1. Results of head-to-head competition in regular-season conference games between the two
        teams.

        2. Results of each team's record versus the team occupying the highest position in the final
CCAC regular season standings continuing down through the standings until one team gains an
        advantage.

                a. When arriving at another pair of tied teams while comparing records, use each team's
record against the collective tied teams as a group (prior to their own tie-breaking
procedures) rather than the performance against the individual tied teams.

NAIA CCAC Sports Bylaws 2019-2020 17 | P a g e
Exception: When arriving at another pair of tied teams, if the tiebreaker between those teams
has already been broken earlier in the seeding process, which goes from top to bottom, the
record against the highest seed is employed first.

                b. When comparing records against a single team or a group of teams, the higher
winning percentage shall prevail, even if the number of games played against the team
or group is unequal (i.e., 2-0 is better than 3-1). In the case of tied percentages versus
the team or group (i.e. 1.000 or .000), the following shall apply: 2-0 is better than 1-0; 0-
                1 is better than 0-2.

        3. Winning percentage versus all common non-CCAC NAIA opponents.

        4. Point differential between the tied teams in their CCAC regular-season matchups.

THREE-OR-MORE TEAM TIE

Teams are considered to be tied when owning an identical conference record.

Following the breaking of a tie of three-or-more teams, once the tie is broken the tiebreaking procedure
listed for either a two- or three-or more team tie starts over with the procedure used based on the tied
teams remaining after the initial multi-team tie is broken.

The following procedures, in the following order, will be used to break ties between three-or-more
teams:

1. Results of head-to-head competition (based on winning percentage) in regular-season conference
games among tied teams.

                a. When comparing records, the higher winning percentage shall prevail, even if the
number of games played against the team or group are unequal (i.e., 2-0 is better than
3-1). In the case of tied percentages versus the team or group (i.e. 1.000 or .000), the
following shall apply: 2-0 is better than 1-0; 0-1 is better than 0-2.

2. If two-or-more teams are still tied, then each tied team's record shall be compared to the team
occupying the highest position in the final regular-season standings continuing down through the
standings until one team gains an advantage.

                a. When arriving at another pair of tied teams while comparing records, use each team's
record against the collective tied teams as a group (prior to their own tie-breaking
procedures) rather than the performance against the individual tied teams.

Exception: When arriving at another pair of tied teams, if the tiebreaker between those
teams has already been broken earlier in the seeding process, which goes from top to
bottom, the record against the highest seed is employed first.

                b. When comparing records against a single team or a group of teams, the higher
winning percentage shall prevail, even if the number of games played against the team
or group is unequal (i.e., 2-0 is better than 3-1). In the case of tied percentages versus

NAIA CCAC Sports Bylaws 2019-2020 18 | P a g e
the team or group (i.e. 1.000 or .000), the following shall apply: 2-0 is better than 1-0; 0-
                 1 is better than 0-2.

3. Winning percentage versus all common non-CCAC NAIA opponents.

4. Point differential between the tied teams in their CCAC regular-season matchups.

NAIA Postseason Qualification –

The first CCAC automatic bid to the NAIA Division II Basketball National Championship will be awarded
to the CCAC regular-season champion. The second CCAC automatic bid will be awarded to the CCAC
tournament champion. If the regular-season champion is also the tournament champion, the second
automatic bid would go to the tournament runner-up.

                                    Conference Tournament Bracket

    1. First round CCAC tournament games to be played on Tuesday, semifinals on Thursday and the
       conference tournament championship on Saturday.

        4. Higher Massey rating.

THREE-OR-MORE TEAM TIE
