MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR Welcome to the Pacific Opera 2018 Chairman’s Dinner, in this our 15th anniversary of operating! It remains a joy and a privilege to Chair a company, which does so much for so many gifted young Australians. In order to provide high level training and mentoring on a scholarship basis to our artists, directors and accompanists, fundraising is a fact of life and fundamental to our success. In addition to our committed Board, the members of which are present tonight, we are blessed with an active Advisory Council which is co-chaired by the fundraising superstars, Bonnie Boezeman AO and Peter Reeve. The know-how and persistence they have shown has enabled the Chairman’s Dinner to be sold out this year. I thank them most sincerely for their efforts in this regard. Simon Kenway continues his exceptional training of our Young Artists, bringing in further professional coaches, mentors and stage directors to complement his musical expertise. The 2018 young artists are our strongest yet and it is wonderful to see their development during their time in the program. We continue to perform for Sydney Opera House, Canberra Symphony, Willoughby Symphony and this year add Philharmonia Choirs to our list of collaborators. Our relationship with the German Embassy continues to bring creative projects to us. None of this is possible without you, our generous supporters and donors. Thank you for being here tonight, contributing to the growth and development of our gifted young artists. My thanks also to our team of volunteers, happily marshalled under the watchful eye of Operations Manager, Pamela Andrews, without whom, our program simply would not get off the ground. Welcome and thank you to all. May the evening begin! Ian Hutchinson LLB, FAICD Chair, Pacific Opera Company Ltd 3

Circle of Friends HELP US CONTINUE OUR WORK Pacific Opera has, since 2003, trained more than 200 young Australian artists many of whom have established professional performing careers. Pacific Opera relies on the generosity of the community to continue our work to deliver advanced training, education through performances, master classes and workshops free to the students. Pacific Opera provides mentorship and work experience with leading opera singers and directors. Pacific Opera is the leading source of young talent to major opera companies such as Opera Australia. Why do we need the Circle of Friends? Pacific Opera does not receive government support; thus, we rely on the generous support of our community. In the 2017/18 audition intake for new young artists we had 75 talented auditionees but could only take in 14 new young artists, which brings our total to 21 this year. Many were disappointed. We would like to increase our annual intake and provide security for the program. Each young artist who completes the two-year program receives a completion certificate. WE ARE REACHING OUT TO ARTS SUPPORTERS, FOUNDATIONS/ ESTATES TO BECOME A PACIFIC OPERA CIRCLE OF FRIENDS DONOR TO CONTRIBUTE TOWARDS YOUTH EDUCATION & DEVELOPMENT Help us to help talented young artists reach their potential! 9
