Chairman's Dinner 2018 - Pacific Opera
MESSAGE FROM
THE CHAIR
Welcome to the Pacific Opera 2018 Chairman’s Dinner, in this our 15th
anniversary of operating!
It remains a joy and a privilege to Chair a company, which does
so much for so many gifted young Australians. In order to provide
high level training and mentoring on a scholarship basis to our
artists, directors and accompanists, fundraising is a fact of life and
fundamental to our success. In addition to our committed Board, the
members of which are present tonight, we are blessed with an active
Advisory Council which is co-chaired by the fundraising superstars,
Bonnie Boezeman AO and Peter Reeve. The know-how and persistence
they have shown has enabled the Chairman’s Dinner to be sold out this
year. I thank them most sincerely for their efforts in this regard.
Simon Kenway continues his exceptional training of our Young Artists,
bringing in further professional coaches, mentors and stage directors
to complement his musical expertise. The 2018 young artists are our
strongest yet and it is wonderful to see their development during
their time in the program. We continue to perform for Sydney Opera
House, Canberra Symphony, Willoughby Symphony and this year add
Philharmonia Choirs to our list of collaborators. Our relationship with
the German Embassy continues to bring creative projects to us.
None of this is possible without you, our generous supporters and
donors. Thank you for being here tonight, contributing to the growth
and development of our gifted young artists. My thanks also to our
team of volunteers, happily marshalled under the watchful eye of
Operations Manager, Pamela Andrews, without whom, our program
simply would not get off the ground.
Welcome and thank you to all. May the evening begin!

Circle of Friends
HELP US CONTINUE OUR WORK
Pacific Opera has, since 2003, trained more than 200 young Australian
artists many of whom have established professional performing careers.

Pacific Opera relies on the generosity of the community to continue our
work to deliver advanced training, education through performances,
master classes and workshops free to the students.

Pacific Opera provides mentorship and work experience with leading
opera singers and directors.

Pacific Opera is the leading source of young talent to major opera
companies such as Opera Australia.

Why do we need the Circle of Friends?

Pacific Opera does not receive government support; thus, we rely on the
generous support of our community.

In the 2017/18 audition intake for new young artists we had 75 talented
auditionees but could only take in 14 new young artists, which brings our
total to 21 this year. Many were disappointed. We would like to increase
our annual intake and provide security for the program.

Each young artist who completes the two-year program receives a
completion certificate.

WE ARE REACHING OUT TO ARTS SUPPORTERS, FOUNDATIONS/
ESTATES TO BECOME A PACIFIC OPERA CIRCLE OF FRIENDS DONOR
TO CONTRIBUTE TOWARDS YOUTH EDUCATION & DEVELOPMENT

Help us to help talented young artists reach their potential!

AUCTION RULES
We urge all guests of the Pacific Opera Gala to familiarise themselves with the General
Rules and Conditions of the Auction.
1. The highest bidder, in due time, shall be declared the purchaser. If a dispute should arise
between two or more bidders about who was the highest bidder, the item in dispute shall,
at the discretion of the Committee, be put up again and resold.
2. A bidder, by making his or her bid in the auction, accepts and agrees that if he or she is
the successful bidder, as and from the completion of the sale, the item bought is at the
    risk of the bidder.
3. Pacific Opera Committee may set a reserve price for any item to be auctioned. If the
bidding does not reach the reserve price, the item will be passed in. In the silent auction
the reserve is the initial bid set by the Committee.
4. Payment by the successful bidder can be made in the 30 minutes following the item’s
sale at the Pacific Opera Gala Bank. Payment can be made with cash, cheque,
Bankcard, MasterCard, American Express or Visa.
5. Payment in full on the night of the Auction is required unless other arrangements have
    been made with the Committee.
6. All sales are final and no exchange or refund on items except where specified.
7. All auction items must be collected before midnight on the evening of the auction.
Separate arrangements can be made for the collection of large items.
8. The successful bidder must make all reservations for all trips, parties and/or similar
events directly with the donor unless otherwise specified. All arrangements for trips,
parties and/or similar events must be made in sufficient time for the donor to make the
necessary arrangements. No refunds for cancelled tickets and accommodation will be
    allowed on travel packages.
9. The donor has valued all airfares and accommodation. Any person bidding for such
item acknowledges and warrants by his or her bid that he or she has satisfied himself or
herself about the value of the item to be auctioned.
10. Airfares included in travel packages purchased at the Auction or won in any raffle are
subject to availability and are not redeemable for cash and are not eligible for upgrade.
Frequent flyer points cannot be accrued on these airfares.
11. The Committee has tried to accurately catalogue and describe the property correctly
but all property is sold “as is”. Any person bidding in the auctions acknowledges and
warrants by his or her bid that he or she has satisfied himself or herself about the
correctness of the description and the condition of the item.
12. The Committee reserves the right to withdraw or alter any item on sale prior to the call
    for bids.

    fundraising activity as input taxed.
14. The Silent Auction will commence from 7:00pm and will close at as nominated.
15. The opening bid for each item in the Silent Auction is as indicated, and this is the
minimum bid allowed. After the initial bid, bidding must increase by at least $20 per bid.
16. At 10:00pm a member of the Committee will close the silent auction. The Committee
will collect all bid sheets immediately after the closure is called, and will not record any
