The Paris-based Bazooka group was ini ally established in 1974 and were renowned for their guerrilla design assaults on
various forms of media. They were comprised of a group of French art students and first gained notoriety when they
were comissioned by Serge July in 1977 to do illustra on work for the well-known French newspaper Libera on. Their
punk a tudes and imagery got them fired, but the editors did ask them to publish a satellite magazine, Un Regard Mo-

Vidal, Jean Rouzaud, and Philippe Bailly. As of July 2017, WorldCat shows only one complete holding in North America

Schuitema was a Dutch graphic ar st, furniture designer, painter, photogra-
pher, and typographer. At the start of his career, he was heavily influenced
by the principles De S jl and construc vism, following ideas put forth by
ar sts such as El Lissitzky, Rodchenko, and Berlewi and applying them to
commercial adver sing. He gained notoriety for his bold designs o en using
solely black, red, and white. In the 1920's, he became one of the first to use
photomontage in industrial design. The two monumental volumes of Syst-O-
Color contain approximately 10,000 different colors comprising an extensive
color reference system, printed using the four-color system of cyan, magen-
ta, yellow, and black. Scarce ins tu onally.

Dot Zero was a journal produced as a joint promo onal venture between Finch
Paper and Unimark, the interna onal design firm founded by Massimo Vignelli in
1965 together with Ralph Eckerstrom, Wally Gutches, Larry Klein, Bob Noorda,
Jim Fogelman, and Bob Moldavsky. Unimark created landmark brand iden es
for companies such as American Airlines, Target, and the New York Subway Sys-
tem, and was one of the first companies to comment on the rela onship between
good design and good business. The journal focused on the theory and prac ce of
visual communica on, and according to Vignelli's design was printed en rely in black and white and set in just two
weights of Helve ca, Unimark's signature typeface, so as to be eye-catching but simple.

The journal's mission is laid out in the first issue: "Good design is no longer a ma er of good taste and intelligence
alone...Be er solu ons today, in communica on as in other areas, require deeper probing, broader understanding, and
more thorough integra on of the growing mass of per nent factors....(DOT ZERO) will deal with the theory and prac ce
of visual communica on from varied points of reference, breaking down constantly what used to be thought of as barri-
ers, and are now seen to be points of contact...Each issue will embody a central theme, around which thinkers and writ-
ers, as well as eminent designers, ar sts, architects, photographers, typographers, printers, teachers, and businessmen
will ply their variously shaped orbits."

the media, and consumerism. He incorporated wri en elements into his collages and montages, and then read the texts
and released recordings of the readings. In 1957, Köpcke opened a gallery in Copenhagen which focused on Fluxus and
avant-garde art, and took on a key role in bringing Fluxus to Denmark and to all of Scandinavia. Incredibly scarce; as of

Pierre Tranquille Husnot was a French botanist who specialized in mosses. A er gradua ng from the École d'Agriculture
de Grignon, Husnot traveled for over a decade, visi ng Europe, Africa, and America, par cularly the Caribbean and the
Canay Islands. Upon returning to France, he took over his family farm and joined many botanical socie es. In 1874, he
founded the Revue Bryologique, the first bryological journal in France, and served as editor, director, and publisher un l
1927. He won many prizes over the course of his career for his botanical work, including the Desmazières prize, awarded
by the Académie des Sciences in 1882 for his work on cryptograms; the Gossier prize, awarded by the Académie des Sci-
ences, des Belles-Le res et Arts de Rouen in 1885 for his book Les Botanistes Normands; the bronze medal from the So-
ciété d'Agriculture de France in 1902 for his work Les Prés et les Herbages; and the Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1925.
This delicate collec on of specimens is a remarkably preserved reference work which allows for the study of plant species
outside of the constraints of me, climate, and geography. Later fascicules list the surnames of addi onal collaborators
who helped Husnot to collect the specimens and assemble these por olios, including Lamy, l'abbé Puget, l'abbé Boulay,

In 1976 the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America (PECUSA) held a groundbreaking conven on
that supported legal rights for homosexuals, as well as their right to have rela onships. Specifically, resolu on A-69 stat-
ed "homosexual persons are children of God who have a full and equal claim with all other persons upon the love, ac-
ceptance, and pastoral concern and care of the Church". PECUSA also passed resolu on A-68 which stated that the
church must "engage in serious study and dialogue in the area of human sexuality including homosexuality". It is proba-
ble that the materials comprising these two binders were used by a diocese in Ohio as part of the direc ve of resolu on
A-68. PECUSA's evolving views on LGBTQ rights were incredibly important and pioneering at the me.

In a 2013 ar cle in Duke University's New German Cri que, James A. Van Dyke
wrote of this por olio: "Grosz's drawings, compared with other representa ons
of the camps in the mainstream press and by le -wing ar sts, are dis nguished
by their treatment of the masculini es of both the perpetrators and the vic ms.
Gay Nazis, frequently evoked by the le -wing press in the early 1930s, abuse
impotent an fascist intellectuals, incessantly ridiculed by Grosz in his le ers.
Thus the ar cle concludes that the por olio not only offered a mordant cri que of Nazi brutality but also dismissed. Eu-
ropean civiliza on. Both Nazi perpetrators and their vic ms embodied perverse or abject masculini es that Grosz, who
portrayed himself as a priapic heterosexual ar st in the American landscape, rejected." A short film based on the por o-
lio was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Short in 1960.

Although the jus fica on page states that the run was limited to 280 numbered copies and 20 le ered copies hors com-

Edgardo Antonio Vigo was one of the preeminent pioneers of mail art in South America, and the founder of the move-
ment in Argen na. He was an editor of avant-garde magazines, a poet, a printmaker, a performance ar st, a creator of
Neo-Dada objects, and a professor. His mail art ac vi es began in the mid-1960s, when he started sending
"mathema cal poems" to the French poet Julien Blaine and his friends. Before long, he was interac ng with ar sts in the
United States, the Eastern Bloc countries, Japan, and the rest of La n America. He kept up these contacts through the
publica on of two journals, Diagonal Cero and Hexágono, the la er of which took in contribu ons from mail ar sts

This suite of maps was commissioned by Louis XV to represent his hun ng territories around Versailles, and stemmed
from his obsession with hun ng coupled with a decision to copy an old map of the Duchy of Rambouillet. The maps are
the result of three surveys of the land conducted between 1764 and 1773. The first nine maps, including the overview,
were completed in the late 18th century under the reign of Louis XVI, but the work was put on hold at the me of the
Revolu on, when the credits allocated for comple ng the work were taken away by the Na onal Conven on. The last
four maps were not completed un l 1807, a er Napoléon became Emperor. These maps are notable for their precision
and the mul tude of details represented, including roads, land use features, such as plowing, meadows, vegetable crops,
barns, and parks, and hydrography. For his work on these maps, Berthier was granted nobility status. A spectacular and

in the 1960s with a group of Neo-Expressionist painters and became one of the foremost exponents of the new figura-
on alongside Jörg Immendorff, Georg Baselitz and Markus Lüpertz. In the 1970s he and his colleagues were considered
dissidents in East Germany and were subject to surveillance by the secret police. But by the end of the decade his work
was exhibited in West Germany and by the 1980s he had achieved worldwide fame for his pain ngs with pictographic,
neo-primi vist imagery of human figures and other totemic forms, some of which are prefigured in the present note-
books.

Jerry Paulsen helped to jump start the punk scene in the Bay Area in 1976
by booking the first punk bands at Mabuhay Gardens. A er the first few
shows, owner Ness Aquino entered an agreement to have rock promoter
and television producer Dirk Dirksen book punk and new wave bands at
the nightclub. It soon became a premier venue for punk rock in San Fran-
cisco during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Many early punk and new
wave bands performed there, including Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, The Avengers, Bu hole Surfers, Pa Smith, Devo,
Iggy Pop, The Ramones, Hüsker Dü, The Cramps, and Metallica, among others. Very scarce; as of February 2018, World-
Cat shows only a single ins tu onal holding in the United States. We could find no indica on that a Volume I was ever
printed.

purposeful stains and coloring, rubber stamps, and hand-painted watercolor and rub-

ered with cloth binding tape. Devon, United Kingdom (Schneemann) 1972. (48836)
                                                                                                                         $12,500

The Parts of a Body House ar st's book was created by Schneemann during her stay in
Devon, Great Britain, at Beau Geste Press. In her introduc on to the book, Schneemann
writes: "PARTS OF A BODY HOUSE BOOK is a prototype for my 'big book'. Each element
in this edi on culled from mounds of related material. It is a releasing of the recent
past into the present. A unitary life view - all about the same thing...and I can't say
what IT IS. But see it, live it. Clayton Eshleman saw It & edited the selected 'Nota ons' 1962-68 for Catepillar. Felipe felt
it & said come to Devon & we'll make the book."

There were 60 signed deluxe copies and a maximum of 300 low-cost copies printed. Schneemann's proof copy provides a
rare insight into her process and how the final copies of the book were created, including what was added and what was
removed before going to press. The proof copy has 66 pages, some repeated, compared to 46 pages in the printed
(abridged) copy. Some of the pages are in a different sequence or format, and some material was taken out altogether.
Some of the items present in Schneemann's copy but not the published version are two color slides, one of Carolee with
her cat and one of the skyline through a window; six black-and-white contact prints of an orgy or similar gathering print-
ed on a single sheet; a poem tled "BODY POLITIC/BLOWING UP", a page tled "Rela onship Measure" with a chart of
accompanying adjec ves, a mimeographed drawing, and a page tled "Blood Work". An incredibly rare book from one
of the most important female visual and performance ar sts.
