2013 AUSTRALIA DAY AWARD PRESENTATION PROGRAM 1 A selection of Australiana songs (Kindly sung by the Sing Australia Choir) 2 National Anthem (Led by the Sing Australia Choir) 3 Introduction by the Chief Executive Officer, Mr Rod Pearson 4 Welcome by Mayor Julie Low Mayor Julie Low will also advise of apologies received from guests unable to attend the Presentation. 5 Presentation: Business of the Year ‘Body Fit’ owned by Julie Starke, is the recipient of the Business of the Year Award for 2013. Julie provides dedication and motivation to members of the community in improving their health and well being. „Body Fit‟ provides services to Kapinnie and Coffin Bay with the main studio being situated on Railway Terrace in Cummins. Body Fit hosts an array of gym equipment and Julie facilitates classes in Pilates, Aerobics, Aqua Aerobics, Personal Training, Boxing, Tai Chi & Rehab amongst others. Body Fit is a great asset to the community in promoting and encouraging healthy, happy and active lives.
6 Sing Australia Choir Council is appreciative of the Sing Australia Choir presenting a bracket of Australian songs at the Award Ceremony. The Choir will perform again later in the program. 7 Presentation: Employee of the Year Mr Jim Newland is the recipient of the Employee of the Year Award for 2013. During a time of major changes with the way Council disposed of waste within the Council area, Jim has facilitated the set up of the Cummins & Coffin Bay Waste Transfer Stations and conducted business in a manner that has allowed for a smooth transition to the current best practice of waste management. Jim deals with the public in an exceptionally professional manner and his helpful, enthusiastic and humorous personality always ensures a pleasant trip to the „dump‟. 8 Sing Australia Choir The Choir will present their final bracket. 9 Presentation: Young Citizen of the Year Ms Stephanie Hull is the recipient of the Young Citizen of the Year Award for 2013. Stephanie is a well respected member of the community, earning great admiration from fellow peers, sports persons and community members. She is a positive and cheerful young person, who is always happy to volunteer within the community. Stephanie‟s involvement with the Rambler‟s Netball Club has allowed her to coach a young E Reserves team, complete foundation coaching accreditation and Academy umpiring and these and other efforts within the club saw her recognized as the Rambler Netball Club‟s „Club Person of the Year‟ in 2012. Stephanie was also involved with the Cummins Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) from 2008 – 2011 holding positions such as Secretary, Treasurer and Vice-President, and assisting in the organization of Youth Week and stalls at the Cummins Show for the committee. Stephanie‟s work within our community, combined with her personal qualities, make her a worthy winner of the Young Citizen of the Year Award 2013.
10 Presentation: Citizen of the Year Mr Peter Hall is the recipient of the Citizen of the Year Award for 2013. Peter has been a helpful and enthusiastic member of a number of organisations within the Cummins District since moving to Karkoo in 1979. He has been the Secretary of the Karkoo School Council, the United Yeelanna Football Club and Karkoo Hall, and has been President of the Eastern Eyre Peninsula Shows Association & the Cummins Show committee. Peter has also taken on various roles within the Bowling Club, such as Junior & Senior Vice President, President, Bar Manager & Booking Officer, dedicating many hours to the Club. In all roles Peter displays enthusiasm and consideration and is a very worthy recipient of the 2013 Citizen of the Year award for the District Council of Lower Eyre Peninsula. 11 Closure by Mayor Julie Low

It can also eat almost a third of its body weight in a single feeding. Emus and kangaroos cannot walk backwards, and are on the Australian coat of arms for that reason. In 2007, it was estimated that 22 per cent of living Australians had a convict ancestor. Australia day - January 26, is the anniversary of ships arriving in Sydney carrying a load of Convicts. Adelaide’s Claim to fame is that it is a City that has lots of Churches. Adelaide is the Capital of the only Australian state never to have received Convicts. In 1983, the yacht "Australia II" ended the Americans 132 year dominance of the America's cup. Dropbears are an evil species of koala that fall from trees and attack humans. Tom played the Aboriginal game of Mangrook as a child and it is believed the native game inspired the rules he initially proposed. The game then took hold in Victoria, and was largely rejected by Sydney. Dawn Fraser is the only athlete to ever win gold in the same event at three consecutive Olympics. At the 1964 Olympics, Dawn Fraser marched in the opening ceremony and wore a custom made swimsuit. For these breaches of protocol, the Australian Swimming Federation banned her from competition for ten years. The 'dingo fence' in Australia is the longest fence in the world, and is about twice as long as the Great Wall of China. 'Waltzing Matilda' the title of Australia's most famous song, is German for 'carrying a backpack'. 2.3 percent of Australia's GDP is derived from agriculture & 15 percent from mining. Per capita, Australians read more newspapers than any other nation. 10 percent of Australians satisfy the definition of an 'ocker' .
