Few Valley Rotarians exemplify the Rotary motto “Service Above Self” more than long-time Kentville member Fred Walsh. Fred and
his wife Mary worked as full-time farmers while raising their family of six children on Birchleigh Farm. In 1960, Fred lost the sight of
both eyes due to a tragic farm accident, but the sight of one was restored after months of treatment and surgeries. Afterward Fred
became involved with Operation Eyesight, a Canadian charity that works to alleviate preventable blindness in developing countries.
