SENIOR LIVING FOCUSED
SFCS Architects invites you to join us for the 33rd Annual By Design Conference for
senior living.
SFCS has developed this popular annual conference to inform industry
professionals of the trends, opportunities and challenges facing the field of senior
living, including the newest thinking and latest research. The faculty includes a team of
nationally recognized experts who cover the disciplines necessary to plan, develop,
reinvent and reposition senior living communities and services.
THE CONFERENCE
Senior living is entering a period of transformation in which technology, the power of
purpose, and design have the potential to redefine aging. From creating engaging
lifestyles to encouraging personal growth and autonomy – there is an opportunity to
evolve the living environment to truly support lifestyle, enhance experience and thrive
on innovation. At By Design 2018, we ask the question “What If?” and explore how
Life Plan Communities and other industry professionals are expanding the world of
possibilities for aging. The sessions presented by our outstanding, nationally known
faculty will give you a better look into the future of senior living, plus give you ideas –
tested through experience – that you can begin to implement right away. Take this
opportunity and learn how asking “What If?” can Create a Culture of Possibility and
bring unique solutions for long-term success.
This program has been submitted (approval pending) for 8.00 total clock hours of
continuing education from the National Continuing Education Review Service
(NCERS) of the National Association of Boards of Examiners for Nursing Home
Administrators (NAB).
“... I look forward to By Design every year. The
SFCS team always packs the agenda with relevant
sessions that stretch our thinking and
challenge us to think in new ways.
It never disappoints!”

blends real estate holdings, housing, resident care services, and
community outreach.
Using examples from other communities, hear about tools being
used to ensure full integration of your short- and long-term

A Case Study on Transformation
Like many long-established quality organizations, Granite Farms
Estates was faced with an aging infrastructure, increased costs and a
land-locked campus. The owner knew that they had to transform their
current care center to remain competitive in the market and to better
serve their residents, but how do you continue your mission of service
and re-invent your community when there’s nowhere to build? Learn
how the project team used creative thinking to develop an innovative
solution that took an underappreciated asset and turned it into the
most sought-after location on the campus. Presenters will discuss the
team’s solution, a combination of state-of-the-art Assisted Living with
modern independent living apartments, and how cues were taken from
the latest residential design to shape the future of senior living.

they can be utilized as a marketing differentiator.

are integrating technology into planning and laying the framework
with systems and designs to expand the possibilities of aging
