Be The Inspiration
On Wednesday morning President Kristen looked back over the past year, and noted all of the good things our Club had
accomplished while she was president. When she became president, she set several long-rang goals:for her year:
identifying a permanent meeting location, establishing a separate bank accounts, providing easily accessible club event and
committee documents; establishing a website link for payments; and maintaining club membership at 40 + members.
These goals have been obtained.
As she reviewed the year, she listed many of our accomplishments and events:
*We have 12 new members: Michelle, Ellen, Stephen, A.D., Arline, Krista, Julie, Beth, Gail, Shane, Robert, and Jackie.
* We had a successful Membership Social in the Fall, and held a High Tea, replacing our Golf Tournament.
* We had 5 new Paul Harris Fellows, 4 new Paul Harris Society members; 2 Community members recognized as
Paul Harris Fellows; a new Skelton Fellow, and new Major Donors ;
* Our many events included support of Rise Against Hunger (more than 17,000 meals packaged (with Interactors’
help); school supplies for Liberian Orphanage Education Project; Tuesday’s Table; Bell Ringing for the Salvation
Army; Stuffing Christmas Stockings for middle school kids (including Laser Tag certificates–thanks Robert); Letters
to Santa; Santa and Mrs Claus Open House; Shred Day for the Community; and 3 scholarships for Skyline High
School Students, just to mention a few. We also supported Interact Clubs at Skyline High School, Randolph-Macon
Academy Middle School, and Skyline Middle School. All in all, our Service Committee distributed more than
$29,000 to various local, national, and international groups.
And, while all of this was going on, we supported our District Governor George and ran the District Conference, which
was very successful. We are still receiving notes thanking us for such a fun time. Twenty-nine members from our Club
attended and worked the Conference which raised more than $60,000 for Polio Plus and the Rotary Foundation. We also
received a first place award for our Bulletin, Second Place for our Facebook, and the Gold Club award. Michael also
received the 110 percent award for Area 1.
We returned from the Conference and immediately prepared for our Gala, “Rotary Around the World,” which cleared
more than $20,000. We also helped clean up the Greenway (again with Interactors helping–thanks Michael), and managed
to squeeze in a field trip to Police Chief Kahle’s new police headquarters. Although we did not have a yard sale this year,
the profit from our breakfasts amounted to more than $3,000.
As you can see, it has been a busy and fun year. For President Kristen’s full report go to www.warrencountyrotary.org
