Director's Notes The Music Man was the perfect first show in Florida for me to direct. Me being a native Midwesterner gave a nice opportunity to bring my perspective to your community. My other connection to this show is my fascination with films about snake oil salesmen or fake faith healers. Films like “Elmer Gantry”, “Leap Of Faith” “The Rainmaker”, and “The Disappearance Of Amy”. The connection that all these stories have is transformation. Not only the transformation of the people who are duped but the transformation of the person guilty of perpetuating the lie. So for me what I enjoy seeing is what we can become when we step outside of our comfort zone and take chances. In that moment change is possible. -Timothy Spradlin Creative Team Tim Spradlin (Director) – Tim is thrilled to be directing for Manatee Performing Arts Center for the first time. Tim was seen on stage this past summer in the show Let It Be for The Players. Tim comes to us from Indianapolis where he directed The Bridges Of Madison County, Gypsy, Nine, West Side Story, Sweet Charity, Bye-Bye Birdie, Damn Yankees, On The Town and The Goodbye Girl at Footlite Musicals; Passion at Theater On The Square; Nuts and The Rainmaker at Buck Creek Players; Yank at The District; and Rabbit Hole for The Theatre Within. Tim has had starring roles in Fun Home, The Story Of My Life, The Last Session, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Pirates of Penzance, Evita, Chess, Godspell, and Sweeney Todd. Tim was a regular with The American Cabaret. Tim's CD Belt Ballad And Blues is available on cdbaby.com. Kelly Burnette (Choreographer) - The first show Kelly did after moving to Florida 25 years ago was at the old Manatee Players, as Sally Bowles in Cabaret. Since then, she has directed and choreographed many shows at both the old and new theaters, as well as winning Best Actress for Sweet Charity. She has been with the Manatee School for the Arts Dance Dept. since 1998, and been an Adjunct Instructor at State College of FL since 2006. Kelly is proud to be a member of Actor’s Equity, and has won awards at the local, state and national level as an educator, performer, and director/choreographer. Thanks to Tim, Brittney, and Emma, her Dance Captain for this show; as well as her husband, Bill, and daughter, Alexis—they make everything possible and worthwhile! Happy Holidays!
