Online Apps and Websites to Support Home Learning

These are unusual circumstances. We know that it is not possible to replicate the
school environment at home, but we would like to share with you some websites and
apps that we believe can support your child’s learning while at home. These resources
can also help to keep your children’s minds active and have some fun. The long list of
websites divided by subject has been created by the Ark Alexandra subject
departments and so should reflect the curriculum studied in school.
It is also important to limit the amount of time that your child spends online. The
table below can help you to set limits on how much “screen time” your child has each
day. We have previously shared ‘non-screen’ based home-learning activities.

                 BBC Bitesize
                 https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize
Provides a range of games, videos and other activities for all subjects that
your child is learning at school including art, English, French, geography,
history, maths, music, PE, science and citizenship. The BBC have improved
and revamped their home learning material across all of their platforms in
response to the Covid 19 school closures.

                 Pobble 365 Suitable for KS3
                 http://www.pobble365.com/
This website provides a brand new picture every day along with questions
and discussion ideas, as well as a range of writing activities that your child
                 can do.
Seneca Learning
       https://www.senecalearning.com/
Seneca is an online platform that allows students to work through learning
materials at their own pace, providing quizzes to check their learning as they go
through. An excellent resource to support revision.

       Hegarty Maths
       https://hegartymaths.com/
Hegarty Maths is used in our school to support learning in maths. Your child will
already have a username and password for this, and their teacher will continue to
set work that they can complete.
       Ted Ed
       https://ed.ted.com/
This website has a range of videos that students can watch. Each video is
accompanied by a series of questions that your child can answer, a
discussion question that you could talk to them about, as well as links to
other websites and information if they want to find out more about the topic.
       Duolingo
       https://www.duolingo.com/
This website (and app) is a great way to practice and revise the modern
foreign language that your child is learning at school.
