welcome to the 37th miami book fair
Welcome to Miami Book Fair 2020, the first online Miami Book Fair in
our 36-year history. Transforming an event that has been exclusively in
what’s inside:
person for more than a generation has been a challenge, but connecting
the world to great books and their authors, and the opportunity for
growth through digital delivery of programs, has motivated all of us.
HERE IN FLORIDA page 4
Over three decades, we have built a Miami Book Fair that represents diversity of subject matter,
diversity of presenting authors, and diversity of fairgoers. A program that introduces more than
20,000 children each year to books and writers, instilling in each of them a love for reading that
will support their educational pursuits.
2020 POSTER page 5
Our mission is to engage our community through inclusive, accessible programs that promote
reading and support writers. On MiamiBookFairOnline.com, we are pleased to offer more
than 250 programs for streaming on demand and live – fiction and nonfiction authors, comics
artists and poets, and journalists and critics in conversation; readings and panel discussions; and
educational entertainment for kids. The Here in Florida project will highlight the stories of the
VIRTUAL
Sunshine State, as well as the work of visual artists and musicians who take inspiration from
our history and natural wonders. As in years past, the Fair Online will present authors in English,
MARKETPLACE page 6
Spanish, and Haitian Creole to serve our home city’s residents, but also in the hope that those
language communities around the world will find a virtual home with us. Fulfilling our mission
has guided our 2020 MBF planning journey, but transforming the festival buzz felt by tens of
thousands of annual Fairgoers has been the magic we’ve tried to capture – we hope our
dynamic, interactive Children’s Alley, colorful virtual vendor booths, and Miami music playlists FRIENDS OF
get you in that MBF Street Fair mood. Though MBF 2020 will be online, we will still be Miami MIAMI BOOK FAIR page 7
Book Fair, and we look forward to gathering in person, once again, soon.
We are grateful to be part of Miami Dade College, a community college serving South Florida for
more than 50 years. On behalf of the entire Miami Dade College family and our staff, advisory
committees, and supporters and sponsors, we wish you the very best, and hope you enjoy all of PROGAM GUIDE
the programs you will find on MiamiBookFairOnline.com. And if you’re moved to support (Fiction, Nonfiction,
