Introduction
The Fondazione Campania dei Festival, for the upcoming XI edition of Napoli Teatro Festival Italia
2018, set to take place in Napoli from June 8th to July 11th 2018, under the artistic direction of
Ruggero Cappuccio, is giving great importance to the workshop activities dealing with stage art
and performances. The effort is to bring together great masters of theatre with young talents, in
order to generate an exchange of culture and knowledge between distant and diverse realities.

Artistic Project
For this year's edition of the Festival, Eugenio Barba, Lorenzo Gleijeses and Julia Varley will
rehearse for one week the show entitled: UNA GIORNATA QUALUNQUE DEL DANZATORE
GREGORIO SAMSA, together with 25 other participants selected, at the 'NEST - Napoli Est Teatro'.
After attending the rehearsals, participants will gather to question and discuss the daily work
activities. Eugenio Barba and his co-workers will offer suggestions to change and improve, try new
directions. The selected participants are therefore part of this process, and will be introduced to a
new, exclusive and delicate - in a way repetitive - method of work and creation. Those attending
will be required to set forth a specific type of self-discipline; one of quality and observation,
demanding high levels of concentration, in order to sustain the performer, director and all others
involved. This is the only way to avoid a minimising and trivialising of the creative process, to
prevent any external and irrelevant presences.
During rehearsals, new plots and ideas are constantly emerging; some intertwine, others get lost.
Meanwhile, the "collective mind" is moving towards a specific goal: to gain insight and work-out
the dramatic elements that are developing. New solutions are considered; strategies and attempts
to reveal as to where these elements may lead us, and the stories that are triggered. What might
be the best "endings" for them.
The day will start with an hour of training exercises for the actor, followed by a few consecutive
hours of rehearsals. No further specific activities can be set at this time, as the process itself will
suggest and guide the programme of the workshop.
In theatre, we refer to the "collective mind" as a group of people that are motivated and engaged
in a creative process that does not aim exclusively at fixed and standard projects. The "collective
mind", in fact, seeks to blend in different specialized fields, at various levels of experience and
responsibility, in a single set-up process much similar to the ones carried out by the individual
mind when creating or inventing: sudden changes of direction, deviations, the ability to take
advantage of unexpected events and occurrences; a shift between different levels of the organised
thought (pre-expressive, organic drama, narrative drama, space invention and creation, the
musical context/universe ect.). The "collective mind" is balanced out by the effort to programme
and at the same time demolish it's own intentions.
The title of the new show featuring Lorenzo Gleijeses is UNA GIORNATA QUALUNQUE DEL
DANZATORE GREGORIO SAMSA; specific boundaries outline the drama, and there is a clear
starting point: the story of a dancer, living in a universe that suggests themes from the literary
artwork and genius of Franz Kafka.
