LAGUNA LIFESTYLE 7New Heart at Masters 17!
IN ADDITION TO THE DAY-TO-DAY UPKEEP OF THE CLASSIC AND MASTERS COURSES,
LAGUNA NATIONAL’S GOLF COURSE AGRONOMY TEAM HAVE BEEN MOVING FULL
STEAM AHEAD WITH A VARIETY OF COURSE UPGRADE PROJECTS.
The new heart-shaped bunker at the 17th hole on the Masters Course.
T o say that the par-three 17th hole on the Masters Course
has broken many hearts over the years would be an under-
statement.
From top professionals to accomplished amateurs … and high-
handicappers to novices, countless are the tales of woe that have
occurred over this devilish stretch of land where the narrow green
is protected by water front and right and bunkers on both sides of
the putting surface.
Perhaps more than any other hole on the Masters Course, this
has been where tournaments have been won – and lost.
En route to his victory in the Caltex Singapore Masters in 2004,
Scotsman Colin Montgomerie, a Ryder Cup stalwart and multi-
time European Tour Order of Merit winner, described the shot
from the championship tees as one of the most daunting at any
par-three he’d played.
On the flip side, those that have been fortunate enough to
record an ace at this hole will always retain their love and affection
for the 17th.
Perhaps more so now than ever before thanks to the upgrading
of five of the bunkers, and especially the addition of a distinctive
new feature.
Mark Isley, Laguna National’s General Manager of Golf Course
