My experience with the CofC Study Abroad
Program in La Rochelle, France was organized,
personal, and meaningful from the beginning. From
the pre-departure meetings to being escorted from
Paris to La Rochelle by Dr. Hiers to the weekend
trip to the vineyards surrounding Bordeaux, I felt
that CofC’s study abroad office and Dr. Hiers were
truly there for us, ensuring that we had an
educational and fun experience, a smooth
transition, and an open line of communication. My
host family was incredibly accommodating. [….]The
University of La Rochelle was well-run, and the
teachers made a huge impact on my understanding
on the French language and culture. […..] I would
highly recommend this program to any student who
is seeking a unique, cultural, and exciting
immersion experience!

"My experience in La Rochelle was
 unforgettable! The city has great
food, bars, and beaches. The town is
very similar to Charleston with its big
port and beautiful places to walk and
enjoy the weather so you'll feel right
at home living here. My French has
really improved and
attending the international
university allows for lots of diverse
experiences and friends!

If you're looking for a small,
culturally rich "French Charleston"
then this is the place for you!
