Welcome to Arbutus Meadows Island Classic
GENERAL INFORMATION, RULES, & REGULATIONS

MANAGEMENT    - Management reserves the right to itself to interpret all questions and
conditions in regards to or arising out of or incident to the show without claims for
damages or recourse of any kind. For all questions not covered in these rules, Horse
Show Management shall decide regulations and their decision is final. The Horse Show
Management reserves to itself the right to refuse, accept conditionally, or to cancel any
entries, disqualify riders or exhibitors, prohibit claim damages, change any course,
cancel or combine any unfilled classes, to reschedule classes (after due notice to
exhibitors), to change rings or rotate judges, and to change specifications in jumper
classes.

                 - The Arbutus Meadows Island Classic competition is sanctioned by
RULES & REGULATIONS

Horse Council of BC and governed by the current Horse Council BC Rule Book 2018.

MEMBERSHIPS– All exhibitors must be members of Horse Council B.C. Membership cards
must be presented at check in, or copies sent with entry form.
Memberships can be purchased at the Horse Show office. USEF exhibitors must fill out
foreign horse affidavits. Anyone wishing to collect points for VIHJA must pay a $25.00
VIHJA fee.

           - There will be a required fee of $40.00 per horse whether showing or non-

showing. This fee will go towards, paramedic fees, administration fees and all other
fees necessary to run this show.

HEADGEAR-  All competitors must wear proper fitting, approved protective headgear
with their safety harness correctly secured at all times while mounted on competition
or event grounds.
Approved headgear must meet the ASTM standards and display the SEI (Safety
Equipment Institution) seal. The British standard, BSI is also acceptable. Any rider
violating this rule at any time will be immediately prohibited from further riding until
such headgear is properly in place.

HORS CONCOURS– Will be permitted in jumper classes only, if time permits. Final decision
will be made by the show management.

– The Horse Show Office will be open on show days (including Warm-

up day) from 7:00 am until 6pm. To avoid late charges please complete all
adds/scratches by 5:00 pm.

      - All entries must be accompanied with payment and received by 5:00 p.m. on
ENTRIES

closing date to avoid late fee. Visa and Mastercard are also accepted to avoid late
fee. Entry fees must accompany all entries, with no exception or late fees will be
charged. Entries received after the closing date, or without payment, will be charged
a $35.00 late fee, and will only be accepted at the show committee’s discretion.

NON-STABLED HORSE FEE -
                    For all horses not showing but are stabling on the grounds, there is
a required $60.00 non-showing horse fee.

STABLING – Stalls are booked on a first come first served basis. We have very limited
indoor stalls. Bedding is bulk and included, stalls are $170 for outside nights and $220
for inside.
Bedding is provided but stalls must be stripped out. $50 clean stall deposit required.

GST- There will be a 5% Good & Services Sales Tax charged on the total of all entries.
The Federal Government collects this fee.

                              A parent (or guardian) must sign for junior riders. The
NO ENTRY IS ELIGIBLE TO COMPETE UNTIL:

entry form must be signed by the trainer, rider and owner/agent.

LATE ENTRIES   – Any entry received after 5:00pm of closing date will be charged a $35.00
late fee.

POST DATED CHEQUES & DECLINED CREDIT CARDS   - Will be treated as late entries.

                       - Cheques returned by the bank will be assessed a penalty of
NON - NEGOTIABLE CHEQUES

$50.00. Entries must be re paid within 10 days & must include the penalty.

ADDS & SCRATCHES  - Horses entered by the closing date that wish to switch, scratch or
add classes will be charged a $5.00 office charge per change sheet. All changes
must be made no later than 1/ 2 hour after the last schooling round or class of the
previous day. ‘Late’ and ‘same day’ changes are $10.00 per class and exhibitors must
go first in the order when there is a posted order of go. Please note: after closing date
of entries there will be no refunds of stalls or exhibitor fees.

NOMINATION FEE – Exhibitors
                        may pay a nomination fee of $30 per horse rider
combination. All entries must be made no later than ½ hour after the last class of the
day. Any entries made on the same day will still adhere to the add/scratch rule listed
in the prize list.

FARRIER– Howie Thomas Farrier Services is the official farrier of the Arbutus Meadows
Island Classic

SAFETY– For safety reasons, all children & pets must be well supervised. Dogs must be
on a leash at all times when on the grounds.

PARKING   – Please enquire at Show Office for horse trailers, vans and truck parking.

CAMPERS, RVS’ & MOTOR HOMES– May stay on site for a cost of $20.00 Per day. All vehicles
must park in designated areas, no services are available on the grounds. Camping
registration forms can be found at www.arbutusmeadows.com and must be returned
to info@arbutusmeadows.com prior to the start of the Horse Show.

ICE CREAM SOCIAL
On Thursday afternoon at 4:00 pm in the Hospitality Tent, exhibitors are invited to a
time of socializing and complimentary ice cream Sundays. Come by for a visit, we’d
love to meet you. Additional ticket may be purchased through the office.

GRADUATED GRAND PRIX BBQ
On Friday evening at 6:00 pm we will be having our annual dinner on the knoll. We’’ll
be having a gourmet burger barbeque during the Graduated Grand Prix. Dinner
tickets are $15 +gst and are available on the entry form or through the Show Office
until Wednesday evening.

HUNTER CHAMPIONSHIPS
Will be awarded to the Champion and Reserve in specified divisions. In the case of equal
points for Champion or Reserve the rider with the highest number of points over fences will
determine the winner. All Hunter divisions must have a minimum of 5 competitors entered
in each class, for a Division Championship to be awarded. In the event of limited entries,
some divisions may be combined at the discretion of the Show Management.

BABY GREEN HUNTER 2’6”
A Baby Green Hunter is a horse of any age in its 1st year of showing over fences 2’6” & not to
have competed in classes exceeding 2’9” in height at any show. Open to horses or ponies in
their first year of showing 2’6’’ (.75m), based on calendar year, January to December.
Reinstatement rules may apply outlined as follows:
If you have not shown more than three shows in the current year, you may be eligible for
reinstatement in the following year to the particular division, however all entries for
reinstatement must make written application to VIHJA prior to December 31st for
reinstatement for the following year.

any Hunter class over 2’9” (.85m) or any Jumper class over .90m. This division may be split if entries

book. This division will be split into Juniors & Amateurs if entries warrant.

2014. First year pre-green 2’11’’ (.90m) / Second year pre-green 3’3’’ (1.0m).

FOUR STAR WATERWORKS PRE CHILD/ADULT HANDY HUNTER CLASSIC 2’6”& 2’9
Open to horses & ponies ridden by Junior & Amateur riders. Formal attire is required. To be
judged on manners, performance, way of going and soundness. To be shown over one
round. Top six competitors will ride for awards. Exhibitors must have shown in at least one Pre
Child/Adult Hunter class at the show to be eligible. Cooler and prize to winning rider, prizes to
3rd place. Ribbons to 6th place.
Entry Fee: $35.00 Class # 100
GREENHAWK COMBINED CHILD/ADULT MEDAL 2’6”
Division fee: $110.00 or $40.00 per class
This is a 3 phase competition, each phase to be pinned as a separate class. Open to horses
and ponies ridden by Junior & Amateur riders. Any rider competing in these classes, may not
cross enter with any other Combined Medal classes, or any Hunter or Jumper class exceeding
2’9” (0.85m) in height, at the same show. Same horse or pony must be used in all phases.
There will be a Hunter phase, flat/gymnastic phase & a Jumper phase. Order of go for 1st
phase will be a drawn order & the order for Phase II & III will be the reverse order from hunter
phase and gymnastic phase. Top 4-6 riders from overall score will return for a ride off at the
completion of the Jumping Phase with no scores being carried over from prior phases. Testing
to be determined by judge
Awards: Prize for 1st in each phase & Ribbons to 8th place. Prizes & Ribbons awarded to top 8
overall competitors.

210. GREENHAWK COMBINED CHILD/ADULT MEDAL ~ Jumper phase
To be shown over a Jumper course with a minimum of 8 jumps not exceeding .80m
in height, with one combination, and at least two changes of direction. Water obstacles not
permitted. Only running martingales used in the conventional manner are permitted in the
jumping phase & gymnastic phase. Standing martingales, draw reins, or restricted running
martingales are prohibited. Prize to winning rider, Ribbons to 8th place.

211. GREENHAWK COMBINED CHILD/ADULT MEDAL ~ Hunter phase
To be shown over a Hunter course, with a minimum of 8 jumps not exceeding 2’6” in
height. Hunter tack rules apply. Prize to winning rider, Ribbons to 8th place.

212. GREENHAWK COMBINED CHILD/ADULT MEDAL ~ Gymnastic/Flat phase
To be set at the Course Designer’s discretion.
Prize to winning rider, Ribbons to 8th place.

VICTORIA SADDLERY COMBINED MEDAL 3’
Division fee: $110.00 or $40.00 per class
This is a 3 phase competition, each phase to be pinned as a separate class. Open to all
Junior & Amateur riders. Any rider competing in this class, may not cross enter with any other
Combined Medal class, or any Hunter or Jumper class exceeding 3’3” or1.0m in height, at the
same show. Same horse must be used in all phases. There will be a Hunter phase,

214. VICTORIA SADDLERY COMBINED MEDAL ~ Hunter phase
To be shown over a Hunter course, with a minimum of 8 jumps not exceeding 3’ in
height. Hunter tack rules apply. Prize to winning rider, ribbons to 6th place.

215. VICTORIA SADDLERY COMBINED MEDAL ~ Gymnastics phase
To be set at the Course Designer’s discretion. Jumps not to exceed 3’. The tests required may
include the following; halt, counter canter, trot fences, related lines, combinations and simple
gymnastics. The course for this phase will be posted one hour before the class starts.
Prize to winning rider, ribbons to 8th place.

ANTARÈS COMBINED MEDAL 3’3”
Division fee: $110.00 or $40.00 per class
This is a 3 phase competition, each phase to be pinned as a separate class. Open to all junior
and amateur riders. Any rider competing in this class, may not cross enter with any other
Combined Medal class. Same horse must be used in all phases. There will be a Hunter phase,
flat/gymnastic phase & a Jumper phase. Order of go for 1st phase will be a drawn order & the
order for Phase II & III will be the reverse order from hunter phase and gymnastic phase. Top
4-6 riders from overall score will return for a ride off at the completion of the Jumping Phase

To be shown over a Jumper course with a minimum of 8 jumps not to exceed 1m in height,
with a minimum of one combination. Liver Pools are permitted.
Prize to winning rider, Ribbons to 8th place.

217. ANTARÈS COMBINED MEDAL ~ Hunter phase
To be shown over a Hunter course, with a minimum of 8 jumps not to exceed 3’6” in height,
with at least two changes of direction. Hunter tack rules apply. Prize to winning rider, Ribbons
to 8th place.

218. ANTARÈS COMBINED MEDAL ~ Gymnastics phase
To be set at the Course Designer’s discretion. Jumps not to exceed 3’3”. The tests required
