Cam Bray, 2014 Heartland Bank Young Auctioneer2017 YOUNG AUCTIONEERS
COMPETITION WINNER
Rural Livestock auctioneer, Logan Moore took out the top spot in the Heartland Bank
Young Auctioneers Competition at the 2017 Show. The competition, held for the sixth
time, attracted eight young auctioneers from as far north as Matamata and as far south as
Balclutha. This year Logan was crowned as the best in the country, after entering in 2014
and 2015 as well. The 26-year-old from Outram got into auctioneering three years ago when
he was given a chance to have a go at the saleyards in Balclutha. Logan decided to enter the
competition to challenge himself and improve as an auctioneer. “The judges are experienced
auctioneers from around the country, so getting feedback from them helps, along with
hearing other auctioneers’ patter and one liners. The win is great - it puts my name out there
and is good for Rural Livestock too. Logan took home the New Zealand Stock and Station
Agent Association Trophy and the Denis Hazlett Medal for his win.
He also won a trip to the Sydney Royal Easter Show to watch the Australian Young
Auctioneers Competition, thanks to Heartland Bank. “I’m looking forward to seeing how
the Aussies do it! It will be good to get around a different culture and understand how the
Australian stock and station industry operates,” said Logan.
