markets with wines which are modern, easy to understand,
and adapted to meet consumers’ expectations. VIN DE FRANCE
wines already account for some 25% of all exports of still French
wines; this allows our stakeholders to easily persuade new
customers to buy-in to the offer, thanks in part to the wines’
                        ”

BEST VALUE Vin de France
Selection 2014

87 recommendations for the international retail market
For the fifth year in a row ANIVIN DE FRANCE held a blind tasting in Paris in February.
The aim of the event was to select wines in the ANIVIN DE FRANCE category worthy
of particular recommendation to the international retail market. The French Union of
Oenologists (Union des Oenologues de France, UOEF), which has extensive experience
in staging and hosting international wine competitions such as Vinalies Internationales,
was entrusted with organizing the wine selection. This cooperation with such a renowned
partner ensured a uniform procedure and ideal tasting conditions.
Our jury of international experts tasted 290 wines this year and selected 87 for
recommendation.
Visit www.vindefrance-cepages.org/en/best-value-vin-de-france for a complete list of
the selected wines.

Jury
This year’s expert jury included buyers from the international retail market. Thanks to their
perfect knowledge of the wine market, it was possible to select cuvées with the flavor

PANEL QUOTES

Simon Gaudreault, wine expert SAQ, Canada
“It’s a good thing that France is embracing a more commercial
attitude and a more New World-style mentality without losing the
fact that it makes some of the best wines in the world.”

Grace Cai Yingji, buyer Aussino, China
“Vin de France wines have many competitive advantages – price,
attractive packaging, the flexibility to select grapes from across
France – [all of which] make them a creative and interesting
       [category].”

Christian Mewes, buyer EDEKA Struve, Germany
“Vin de France has the potential to be a playground for new wine
styles. Over the last few years I think the quality of Vin de France
       wines has increased very quickly.”

       Jacqueline Snoeker, buyer Ahold, Netherlands
“Vin de France wines are very relevant on our market – there is
       great commercial potential.”

PANEL QUOTES

Benjamin Cahill, buyer The Co-operative, United Kingdom
“You can make a wine with character, one which is definitely
French, but with a New World twist so it is approachable. I think
producers should have the confidence to experiment and remember
       what they are good at.”

Ana Sapungiu, buyer Oddbins, United Kingdom
“Vin de France is an opportunity for people doing the right things
to build a brand and be successful. And what I like about it is that it
is trying to make wine for the end consumer, not terroir driven, but
       grape and style driven.”
“Vin de France wines offer great potential in terms of innovation
with different grape varieties and brands.”

Beth Willard, buyer Direct Wines, United Kingdom
“For us what’s important is finding a style that matches consumer
demand rather than specific appellations. This category fits perfectly
       with our overall philosophy.”

William Schallert, buyer Young’s Market Co., USA
“Vin de France wines’ competitive advantages are quality
combined with value. Vin de France is a necessary step in the
growth and development of wines from France – it will help take
away some of the mystery surrounding French wines for new wine
       consumers.”

famous character of the early 20th century. Known

La Belle Angèle wines praise this figure of the
“Belle Époque” by embodying the same values that
characterized the woman: charm, elegance, joie de

                           BRAND INFORMATION: Grand Plessis comes
from a medieval term meaning natural enclosed

enclosed by bushes, trees, branches, etc... but
managed and controlled by a human hand while
                           respecting the environment.
The wine, made by prudent winemaker Eric

LE HAMEAU | VIN DE FRANCE, 2013

BRAND INFORMATION: Le Hameau means a
hamlet, or small village, reflecting the fact that the
grapes for this wine come from small independent
growers clustered around a group of small villages.
The real winemaking skill lies in selecting the
various parcels of grapes, all of which have slightly
different characteristics, and blending them into a
wine that has several layers of flavor.

LES GRANDS CHAIS DE FRANCE
J.P. CHENET RÉSERVE | VIN DE FRANCE, 2013

BRAND INFORMATION: Following his artistic and
entrepreneurial spirit, in 1984 Joseph Helfrich
designed a bottle with a revolutionary shape. He
named it Joséphine. It stood out from the crowd
with its original curves, slanted neck and generous
body. It represented a genuine challenge at the
time as a special bottling chain needed to be built
for it. The first brand of French wine was born and
                          its name was J.P. Chenet.

KIWI CUVÉE | VIN DE FRANCE, 2012

BRAND INFORMATION: The Kiwi Cuvée brand
was born in 2001 from the alliance between the
New and the Old Worlds. Les Grands Chais de
France, with the acquisition of Lacheteau, have
worked with a winemaker from New Zealand
who has travelled across the world and brought
his experience and techniques. It all resulted in
fresh and flavored wines, made in a New World
style. Despite the New Zealand influence, it’s very
French. The combination of soil and climate gives
                             the brand its unique character.
