   – Completion scholarships for doctoral studies (for
       students at the end of your doctoral studies)

●   DAAD scholarships will be paied during restrictions in continuing
    with your studies if they are going to be continued
●   Studying based in your home country might be funded

●   Additional costs might be absorbed in case of a subsidized journey

    not possible

●   Change of subject after the 3rd semester based on irrefutable
    cause → funding period anews; without irrefutable cause, the
    ending point for funding will not be extended beyond the point to
    which your first studies would have been funded

■   Repayment after completion of the standard period of study, but no
    longer than 5 years afterwards
■   Aquittance from all debt 20 years afterwards (at the latest), if monthly
    installments could not be paid

    effect an appropriate extension of the maximum support term

Housing benefit

●   Notice of rejection by the BAföG office needs to be presented (housing
    benefit not granted for BAföG recipients)
●   Statutory requirements must be fulfilled (e. g. neediness, which is not
    the case when the parents income lead to a notice of rejection by the
    BAföG office)
●   Entitlement to housing benefit during e. g. part-time studies, second
    educational studies, exceedance of the maximum age/period of
    funding (usually standard period of study)
●   Example: rent p. m. 250 EUR, income p. m. 600 EUR, One person
    household → Entitlement to about 95 EUR
●   Contact: Local housing benefit office in Ilmenau

SOCIAL ASSISTANCE
Social assistance
●   Receiving social assistance based on Book II of the Social Code (SGB
    II/ALG II) is possible – however, only in certain cases
●   Supplementary amount for students who live with their parents →
    claim usually exists when the parents are recipients of assisting
    financial aid
●   Break from studies due to illness → break semester (condition: no
    exams or other academic performance can be taken!)
●   Part-time studies based on a just cause (e. g. illness)
●   Transition period between bachelor and master studies
●   Assistance based on § 90 Abs. 3 SGB VIII for child care
●   Contact: Employment agency/job center or youth welfare office,
    depending on the assistance needed

Summary
●   Financing options exist– however they are very limited (especially
    grants)
●   No unbureaucratic emergency aid available yet
●   BMBF provided the student services (Studierendenwerke) with 100
    Mio. EUR (BAföG resources), Unification process could – however – take
    until June, 2020
●   Private initiatives might be able to absorb shocks short-term, but are
    not meant to be long-term solutions
●   Student services (Studierendenwerke) should provide additional grants
    (positive example: Mainz)

INFORMATION
Additional information
●    Termination of contracts of tenancy are suspended until June 30, 2020
     in case of a corona-induced shortage
●    Extension agreement with the landlord/insurance/mobile
     communications provider or regarding GEZ as possible solution in case
     of financial struggles (for dunning block)
●    Close to the BAföG-limit: invoke exemption from GEZ fees
●    Masters: file for taxes → study related expenses as work related tax-
     deduction (loss carryforward)
●    (not only) long-term students: possibly take a break semester and get
     previous volontary work (student council and similar) recognized

Additional information [current situation at
TU Ilmenau]

●   Resumably until June 1, 2020: restricted standard operation
●   University library reopended on May 11, 2020 (only lending library)
●   Cancelled exams will not be retaken (in principal)
●   Exams can – in justified individual cases – be proponed
●   Examination period has been extended onto the entire university
    recess (July 20, 2020 - September 30, 2020)
