G O L F CO U R SE News Jon Cockerham Suntree Country Club!!.... D IRECTOR OF G OLF the Club that never stops moving forward!!! C OURSE M AINTENANCE E ver since the national economic crisis of 2008 Suntree Country Club has been fortunate enough, thanks its membership, directors, committees, employees and management, to be one of the very few clubs in the world to have steadily found ways to go forward rather than backward. As we enter the fall/winter season of 2021 and 2022 we are enjoying what seems to be a pinnacle of success. The opening of the new clubhouse, cart storage building, and the golf course and tennis facility upgrades over the last year are proving to put a topping on the many previous improvement projects of the last 12 years. What is even more exciting is the fact that the forward progress does not stop here. For 2022 and beyond our strategic plan and its implementation, which is firmly directed at addressing overall member satisfaction, will continue to provide Suntree Country Club members with an outstanding venue. This will certainly be the case for our golf courses and practice facilities. On the slate for 2022 is a new practice putting green which will be located near the 1st tee of the Classic course. This green will be contiguous with a new, larger short game practice area and a chipping green that can accommodate many more players wishing to warm up and work on improving their game. We also plan to proceed with ongoing renovations to many of the 130 bunkers on the 2 courses by reshaping as necessary, repairing drainage and adding new sand. Renovations to the on-course restrooms on the Challenge course to improve and modernize those facilities will be completed as well. We will also be completing the construction of new blue tee boxes for the Classic course (Challenge course to be finished in 2023). Repairs to concrete cart paths and aesthetic course improvements geared toward environmental stewardship are also part of the 2022 plan. Ask anyone in the country club business what they think about these accomplishments and I feel strongly you will hear the term “impressive”! Our crew in the course maintenance department is certainly proud to be an integral part of this success, and look forward to continuing the tradition for many years to come!! And also……please fill your divots with the sand material provided, rake your tracks in the bunkers, and don’t forget to repair your ball marks. A club that follows proper golf etiquette, is a happy club!! 6 S UNTREE C OUNTRY C LUB October — December 2021 www.suntree.com
