AVEYRON, FRANCE – Built a thousand years ago on a gigantic rock, this magnificent fortress rises above one of the most
beautiful villages in the Aveyron region of France. A self-guided tour, rich with historical information, leads visitors over the moat
and throughout the castle and its grounds. This private chateau, with its lush courtyards, medieval chapels, prison and superb
views opened to the public in 2006. Fernand Pouillon (1912-1986), renowned visionary and humanist architect, devoted himself
completely to the restoration of Château Belcastel after he discovered it in ruins in 1973. Now, what was once the private residence
of Fernand Pouillon offers itself as an architectural gem, a historical landmark, and a living tribute to the late architect. Today,
Château Belcastel stands as a successful collaboration between the future and the past where The Heritage of Fernand Pouillon
Association carries forward the legacy of the great French architect.

EXHIBITION DENIS AUGÉ
“Evolution” Schist Sculpture, 2019, 1m 60 Diameter
French artist Denis Augé will install five monumental stone sculptures on the exterior property of Chateau Belcastel.
Curated by Heidi Leigh of AFA Gallery, the exhibition explores the relationship between architectural forms and a
bold contemporary vision. These sculptures are part of Augé’s ongoing body of work initially unveiled during Unesco
Humanities Week in Liege, Belgium. Fifty artists, including Auge were chosen from around the world to present work
that made a significant impact to urban and rural communities. More.
The work of Denis Augé embraces organic form inspired by nature, earth sun and stone. The relationship between
ancient stones of the chateau and the more contemporary architecture of Fernand Pouillon has also inspired the Artist.
There will be a vernissage with the Artist in attendance on 25th June, 2020.
VIEW HIS VIDEOEXHIBITION PIERRE MATTER
An exhibition of outdoor sculpture by French Artist Pierre Matter will
be on view throughout the chateau. The work relates to form found
and imagined, and the juxtaposition of the contemporary restoration
by Fernand Pouillon and the original medieval chateau. Matter works
primarily in bronze and recycled objects, using welders, plasma cutters,
laser cutters and grinders to shape and sculpt.
“I’m a kind of salvager. I feel like a child in a heap of sand, but instead of
sand, there’s a lot of recycling and scrap, full of magnificent objects. Often, the
sculpture which emerge from these discarded objects speak to us of who we are
and how our future might be.”
- Pierre Matter
Matter’s monumental installations and smaller sculptures have been
included in important collections and permanently installed around
the world, including Paris, London, New-York, Miami, Hong-Kong,
Singapore, Shanghai, and Dubaï. There will be a vernissage with the
Artist in attendance on 25th June, 2020.
